For beach campers, Calaguas is a good choice. The beach at Mahabang Buhangin is one of the best in the region, still boasts of the powdery sands and crystal waters. Go when it's off peak since for the past 3 years the crowd on summer weekends got bigger. Or dare to ride the rough open sea in a small boat when on wet season. When you just have the beach all for yourselves, you will better appreciate the rewards of getting to Calaguas.
Get off at Talobatib junction from your Daet-bound bus to cut travel time. You will be there by 4am so grab a quick breakfast first at the friendly eatery, as the first Paracale mini-buses or vans will get there by 6am. From Paracale port, hire a boat and practice haggling skills to get you to the island. Bring along a day's supplies of food trip, water and basic necessities. There are waterpumps at the beach and the most basic of toilets.
For an adventure with the gang or for a private escape, and for low budget weekend getaway Calaguas is a fun destination.
