“Great lunch venue when travelling through Big Sur!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

The views are tremendous! Our server was witty and real fun, not to mention informed and eager to please. The food was very enjoyable, though a bit fast foodie. Good wine list too. We had agreat time. I recommend Nepenthe highly as a lunch venue!

“Enjoyable Tourist Trap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

As one previous reviewer aptly noted, this establishment thrives primarily because of its location. It’s what you would expect of a classic tourist trap with high prices and limited cuisine. The service was fine, but the menu was severely lacking. On the positive side, the view is nice and the building, with restaurant, café and quaint little gift shop has plenty of character. It’s a convenient spot for a break on the highway, so it’s worth a visit. Relax and enjoy!

“the view is great, the food is o.k. but it's overcrowded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

I think we would have enjoyed this place much better if it hadn't been so crowded. The food was very good but a little pricey. There's a great view, and they have bar-style seating right by the scenic edge of the restaurant, of course it's hard to get a seat there on a busy day. We had a very good time and the service was good and quick. There's a gift store downstairs.

“memorable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

after a breathtaking drive on the Big Sur, this is a perfect stop over...well located at a high altitude with scenic view and great ambience...best time to be there is during sunset which will leave you with a memorable moment...don't expect too much variety on food as they only have a variety of sandwiches to offer but are filling and served with quality fries n salad..after food, just order a drink and relax

“Unsurpassed Taste & Views of the Central Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

The central coast Hwy 1 is the best road trip you could possibly take. About 25 miles south of Carmel, CA is the Nepenthe Restaurant, Big Sur, perched on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean coastline. Dine outside on the deck with the majority of the seating directly facing the spectacular view. The tasty and ample Abrosiburger is my favorite, none better!
