We just got back from an unforgettable trip to Big Sur. Lucia Lodge is definately worth a visit. Unfortunately we only booked one night in room 9. The views are amazing, the night sky outstanding and the sound of the ocean so relaxing. We were fortunate to also observe a pod of whales the morning of our stay. The restaurant food was very pricely but tasty and the people very friendly and accomodating. Definately try and stay in cabins 7-10. The rooms were very clean, no frills but it really doesn't matter when you sleep so close to the Pacific Ocean. We can't wait to return...

We had an excellent stay here. We were in Room 1 and found it to be very quiet -- no highway noise at all. It's true that if someone were having a tailgate party in the parking lot, you'd hear it, but it would be reasonable to ask people like that to move to the picnic tables below or their room... .

A few people below complain about the lack of TV, phone even -- gasp! -- a clock. I carry a wrist watch and the total lack of gizmos with their blinking LEDs at night was another plus for this place. Comfortable bed. Definitely nothing fancy about the rooms -- they're a tad worn, so if that's important to you, this may not be the place.

And, of course, you're paying for the view, which is worth it. Rooms 1 and 2 (and, I think, 3) look out to the south along a great stretch of coast. With binoculars you could pick out whales and, perhaps, sea otters. Alas, we missed both though they're around. Staff was very friendly as were the people staying there on our visit.

The dining room has an equally outstanding view. Dinner was OK, not great but not bad. Nor did it have much of a wine list. Maybe a tad overpirced, but I'm guessing they've got to go to Monterey for supplies. And, once again, you're paying for the view. Well worth it.

The buffet breakfast was also OK. Nothing fancy, but good. Sat out on the deck and drank coffee and watched for whales for a couple of hours (the restaurant is otherwise closed, so it's only guests).

An enjoyable time. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 nights in cabin 10 (the only cabin available). It was a really spacious cabin, and had absolutely gorgeous views. The views from Lucia are some of the best. We loved it. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean, and the included breakfast was more than adequate (yogurts, bagels, fruit, juice, tea, etc.) Overall, the views blew us away and the cabin was very cute, remote, and romantic. it is pricey, so if you want a cheap place, look elsewhere.

We stayed one night in cabin 7 at Lucia Lodge on November 8, 2006. Cabins 7-10 are where you should stay. Lucia was one of the stops we were making along Hwy 1 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our cabin was clean (no cobwebs), rustic, and we loved it. Of course the location is amazing and beautiful. We had dinner in the restaurant and thought the food was very good (maybe a little high-priced), as was the atmosphere. We knew this was not the Hilton, and did not want nor expect that type of environment. We hope to go back. Watching the sunset on the bluff behind the cabins was worth it all - see one of many beautiful photos we took.

  • Liked — location/scenery
  • Disliked — Though very good, the food in the restaurant was expensive - remote location may explain that
  • Tips/Secrets: — Stay in cabins 7-10.

I celebrated my 50th birthday in Big Sur and stayed at Lucia Lodge with a friend of mine. We had cottages 8 & 9. They were clean, neat and the queen size bed was very comfortable. This is a perfect place for peace and quiet - I would not recommend that you come here with your children.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. When we had dinner the first evening, they brought out a piece of birthday cake with a candle and sang to me. Rick and Stacey were so nice to talk with and they made my stay very special.

A very robust continental breakfast is included - yogurt, juices, coffee/tea, bagels, sweet rolls (including cinnamon with frosting), fresh fruit - just enough to get your day started.

I plan on coming back as soon as my schedule permits!
