“Great setting but food is over complicated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

Went for lunch and it was a clear day so got a great view of the ocean. They provide binoculars so you can get to see whales, seals etc. The lunch menu is a fixed price with 3 choices for each course. They have some really good 1/2 bottles of wine. Food was good but was a little over complicated with some flavours that didn't quite work. Worth visiting but for me I would probably would not return.

“Best Restaurant View Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

Floating above the ocean with nothing between you and nature other than glass - truly spectacular. We chose to dine here on our arrival day and were not disappointed. There were four of us at a window table and among us, we sampled some melt in the mouth choices and others that did not quite share the same wow factor. Three of us chose the four course option and the other ordered a la carte. Cocktails were good as was the wine selection. The photos of Sierra Mar that are on the Post Ranch website show the tables as tablecloth covered, which was not what we experienced. Plus the seating is quite minimal and perhaps not as comfortable as my small body would have liked for such a pricey meal.

“Amazing cuisine and ocean view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2014 via mobile

About 1 hour's drive south of Carmel along Highway 1 in Big Sur is the treasure of Sierra Mar restaurant. It is the dining room of the way-pricey Post Ranch Inn, so especially if you can't afford to stay there, it is definitely worth the trip to eat at Sierra Mar. This was our 3rd visit since the mid-1990s and the quality and innovative cuisine has remained consistently excellent. The cliff-top views of the ocean are gorgeous and available throughout the glass-sided dining room. We took friends from Philadelphia who were very impressed. Though there was some duplication among the 4 of us during the the 4 courses, there was enough variety to know that the food was innovative, beautifully presented, and delicious, no matter the choice. The prix fixe menu is not for the faint-hearted but this is a real treat for a special evening!

“Spectacular View and Delicious Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

Sierra Mar has one of the most magnificent views of any restaurant I know. It sits high on the bluff overlooking the Big Sur Coast, with views north and south. There is no sign of anything other than nature. The food is delicious -- fresh from the garden -- and prepared to perfection. The service is caring, but unobtrusive, and the ambience relaxing and unhurried. I have taken many people to Sierra Mar and everyone has been wowed by the experience. I cannot recommend it more highly for lunch if you are visiting Carmel or Monterey, or driving down Highway 1.

“Wonderful Dining Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

Full disclosure: We won an overnight in a tree house and dinner for two in a raffle. We arrived at Sierra Mar from our treehouse for our 6 pm reservation, and for 3 hours ate a wonderful, 4 course prix fixe meal at a window table looking out at the Pacific Ocean. Did I mention the 3 hours included a sunset, but sadly, no green flash. The service was outstanding, and what is probably very apparent, we were not rushed. I brought the last bottle of Ridge 1986 Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon from my cellar for the special occasion. The corkage was $35 (expected at Sierra Mar) and the sommelier also enjoyed a glass. The whole experience was top notch, but I probably would not have done the adventure had it not been for the raffle. At the end of our stay, we did wish we had another night . . . our treehouse was spectacular. The total Post Ranch experience was absolutely the best we have ever had.
