“Great menu, fresh delicious food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

We happened upon this on our way through the Pacific Coast Highway & Big Sur, after we passed what we thought might be the only restaurants. Were we ever pleasantly surprised. We sat in the outdoor patio, great service & great food. Also very clean bathrooms! Menu was excellent! Clean fabulous restaurant with friendly accommodating staff! Perfect California cuisine w/ great music. (not loud, perfect to accompany our meal)!

“Fantastic cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We stayed at the Glen Oaks Hotel for three nights and did not consider the roadhouse at first since we thought the Big Sur Bakery, at which we ate the first night, would be the best choice. How wrong we were! After having breakfast a the roadhouse, which was both excellent and fresh, we decided to give it a try for dinner.

You can easily see that the chef is dedicated to serving his customers both incredibly fresh (try the celeri salad!) and well composed dishes that are of a quality you would not expect in Big Sur.

The selection of wines was excellent as well, while on both nights (we ended up eating there again, and it was just as good the 2nd time) our waiter "Spencer" took great care of everything and made sure we all enjoyed our dining experience.

Being rather picky and somewhat of a foodie we had a number of great meals during our 2week California visit...yet, the roadhouse can easily match all of the great restauraurants we went to in SF and Southern California. Highly recommended...and in our opinion better than the Big Sur Bakery which was nice, but not as perfect in all the details as the roadhouse is.

“Cajun on the Big Sur Coastline”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

I was so excited to read about the new chef at Big Sur Roadhouse so we traveled down on a beautiful Saturday morning and we were not disappointed at all. Loved the grits with slow cooked greens, sausage patties and an egg cooked perfectly. But I couldn't resist the slow roasted tomatoes. So good on top of all my other wonderful treats. And who could resist a biscuit, well not me. Nice and crunchy on the outside and moist inside, just perfect. My husband had the biscuits and gravy, not to be missed either. I just had to take a look at the lunch menu and guess where I will be going soon. Everything sounded special but the Kale Caesar salad really caught my eye. So folks, don't wait, take a trip up or down the beautiful coastline and have a great meal at Big Sur Roadhouse, you will not be disappointed. Thank you Matt Glazer for visiting with me. Cheers

“Just OK.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Dinner was underwhelming. Under-seasoned for true "New Orleans" fare, under-served, over priced. Nice space and atmosphere, and the service was friendly, if uneven. Only saw one main server on a Sat. night. Would go for a good beer at the bar, or on the lovely patio, instead of dinner.

“Wish it were closer to home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

We stayed at the hotel across the street on a California roadtrip. After hours in the car we wanted something close to our hotel (directly across the street) and we wandered blindly into the restaurant. It was a pleasant surprise! The food was fantastic, not overly saucy, just well prepared with nice ingredients. We went for breakfast the next day which was also great. Dinner menu was pretty limited - probably not a spot for families
