“Excellent getaway in Big Sur”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We spent one night here in a forest cabin. The room was nicely furnished (no tv). The bathroom had a heated floor and large bathtub with shower. The room looked out into a beautiful redwood forest and seemed private, though there were several other cabins around us. There was a wood burning fire pit off the porch. We really enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend it.

We stayed here one night on our way down the coast. I wanted a more authentic outdoor experience but my kids wouldn't stay in tents. This was a compromise but not exactly. It was more "glamping" than camping. We stayed in the Little Sur cabins, which have queen beds. My husband and I split up and each stayed with a child. The cabins were small but very clean and well appointed. The fire pits already fixed up were simply awesome. We just had to strike a match. We stayed in cabins 7 and 8 near the water and it was quiet and secluded. You wouldn't know you were close to the highway. We used the fire pit in cabin 8, which was the best one because it is in a grove of redwoods. We kept our windows open at night and loved hearing the river at night.

The bedding is cozy and warm. The warm floors in the bathroom were awesome. There are dishes in the unit and a microwave but it is very small and don't expect to be able to prepare a meal. We did get takeout and heated it up, and the unit was perfect for that. It had everything we needed. They have a s'mores kit in the cabin for your enjoyment. However, we bought our own supplies.

My husband and my kids loved this stop on our way down the coast the most. If you want to hang in the woods and relax, it is awesome. There isn't that much to do in Big Sur for teens. We did hike and we did drive the PCH, but beyond that, it is an area to relax not necessarily "do" anything.

This is a wonderful stop for some quiet and nature. Cabins were very well appointed. I recommend checking in before sundown, as it is very dark at night. Also, the evening is one of the best parts of the stay. We would have stayed longer if we knew how great Glen Oaks was.

Room Tip: Little Sur cabins 7 and 8 are great

The service was outstanding. My fiance and I stayed 2 nights. One night in the main building (#11) and the second in a cabin on the other side of the road. We only had reserved one night but were fortunate to have a cancellation which allowed us to stay a 2nd night. The staff was attentive and accomodating. They helped us with providing a calling card after hours and helped us with reservations. Much attention to detail such as a nice smores kit in the room for our private fire pit. Overall this is a great "glamping" destination. The rooms were both modern and updated inside. There is a lovely creek/river nearby and a path for a walk or just star gazing.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Glen Oaks, which has a relaxed vibe with a designer touch. The main motel building and maybe some of the cabins are near the busy Hwy 1, which may be a turn-off for many (it would have been for me). But we stayed in a Little Sur cabin on the other side of the highway, which was nestled in the redwoods and had a small patio and private firepit. The room itself is very small, half of a small cabin, but is nicely decorated and has extras like a heated bathroom floor and great shower.

We LOVED the firepit. The staff lays out wood every day, and there's plenty more in a nearby shed. Although near other cabins, the pit and room were sited in a way that was very private. It was great sitting outside in the big Adirondack chairs with a fire among huge redwoods. One downside -- the room is so small there's no place to put your luggage, although there were closets and under-bed storage. The delicious s'mores kit in the room was priced at a stiff $9, but not a big deal given what the room itself cost!

I see others complaining about road noise or noise from the other half of their cabin, but the Little Sur cabin we were in was very quiet all around. We heard our neighbors a tiny bit but not disturbing at all. And I'm very noise sensitive.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Little Sur cabin fairly close to the river and away from the road. There were other...

We could have chosen a better unit in this complex. For $400+per night, The Archie cottage was a disappointing choice. The unit is right on a residential road with cars traveling back and forth frequently which makes relaxing on the small deck very compromised. The busy main highway can be heard 24 hrs a day. I would stay here again, but choose a unit across the road, closer to the river. For half this price this would have been a good value!

Room Tip: Choose unit by the river in the redwoods

We absolutely loved our time in Big Sur! We were traveling from SF to Big Sur and loved how easy it was to find Glen Oaks. Upon arrival, we were greeted with iced tea and water after our journey. We loved the room with its own private fireplace - the heated floors in the bathroom were so nice on a cold night! The outdoor fire pit was a great way to relax after a long day of hiking.

Aside from the hotel, the restaurant across the street [related to the inn] was also amazing! Big Sur Roadhouse had great breakfast and dinner fare. One night, we went to a few other places before coming back there, disappointed with the menus and prices of others. Roadhouse had a great menu of options and was reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have private outdoor areas - some just have table/chairs facing parking. I stayed...

I made a point of writing prior to our visit to ensure a quiet private location because we were celebrating a special birthday for my wife and was told that I had selected a very nice, private location. After spending over $750 for two nights on a "private" cabin, we quickly found out once on site that our cabin was attached to another cabin, was exposed to the road (and everyone walking past) and later were treated to the horrible noise that vibrated throughout our room each time our connected neighbors opened or closed the sliding glass door to their side of the cabin we all shared. And that went on all night long, both nights. At first, we thought the noise was an earthquake (that is how loud it was). We expected a small space (which it was) and that it would be in the redwoods (also true) but at the $375 per night price, the noise and lack of privacy, didn't make it a very romantic getaway.

Room Tip: Do not pick the Little Sur Cabin on the south - it's on the road and not private at all and the...
