“Sleeping among the giant trees...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

What can I say? I am in love with Big Sur! Glen Oaks helped me build that love affair. Driving up the CA-1 for the first time on my honeymoon could not have gone better. Great views at every turn as you rise up into the redwoods. We arrived to our cabin in the woods for the new few nights ready for anything. What a great little resort!

The service at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. We were so eager to go find our cabin and check it out. They give you a little map for the cabins, which are separate from the main lodge. Just a few hundred feet south of the main lodge. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the fire pits come supplied with wood, kindling and matches along with a woodshed with more wood for all your campfire needs...unfortunately we found this out after buying wood at Ralphs on our drive up. Oh well!

We got Little Sur cabin #8 (which is the best one...it's furthest from the road and closest to the river). Just the outside of our cabin was amazing! Our fire pit was surrounded by towering redwoods and just across the way was the river running. We even had a skunk living under our steps--nature!!

The cabin smelled immaculate when we went in--fresh pinewood scent! It was so clean and the design was so cool. It was tiny but spacious at the same time. Plenty of storage for all your luggage and gear (closets, drawers under the bed). Heated floors in the bathrooms, fridge, delicious coffee, board games. The amenities rocked! The only issues we had was that you could really hear the neighbors clomping around and laughing through the walls. Luckily, all was quiet during the night except for the sound of rushing water and crickets. Also, the wifi from the far cabin sucked (but we sucked it up since we were supposed to be in nature and not on the internet).

We really enjoyed this pine-tree paradise and thought it was well-worth the money. I wish we could've stayed longer. I couldn't think of a better place to stay stress-free and enjoy the wonder of Big Sur. It was surely the best place for our honeymoon. We'll be back again I'm sure of it!

Room Tip: Little Sur cabin #8 is farthest from the road and the quietest. But, beware if you are looking for a...

We thought Glen Oaks was great - having spent a long day in the car to Big Sur we were delighted with our cabin. Whilst small it was very comfortable with lovely king size bed, great shower and a nice outside area with a fire. We felt very much at one with nature and really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely recommend.

My wife and I stayed, unfortunately, only one night during a road trip in June. This hotel is unassuming from the outside, but inside (we stayed at the Sycamore cabin) is a surprise and a delight. Ultra modern, ultra Asian chic, extremely inviting, we loved every minute and didn't want to leave. We loved that the fireplace was set outside our door, waiting only for the match. We found a short walk through the redwoods that led us to a luscious river that we sat next to and blessed the moment that we booked this short stopover. I am so glad that no one when we were there decided to augment the peaceful forest with some obnoxious music. I would hope that anyone who finds this place is just not that person, because it deserves the mindfulness of those for whom peace is paramount. We're coming back and staying for a few nights. The price is steep, but the serenity and care is priceless. Glen Oaks is a gem.

these small houses were incredible. they are nestled back in a gated wooded small community. creek running thru the back with lots of trees. the hotel has an outside fire set up and ready to light when you get there. the rooms were wonderful. the bathroom floors were heated which was a nice perk to have. weather was chilly 50s-60s in morning and night. Some of the rooms have full kitchens. hotel restaraunt under renovation at the time so we didn't get to experience it.

I really enjoyed my stay at the King motor lodge room.

The facility was rustic with a modern touch. I loved the style, the warm heated bathroom floor, nice fireplace, and wonderful friendly/helpful staff. I would love to come back again and stay at a cabin.

It is worth the price I paid.

Only one negative - since it is very a quiet rural location, if the people staying in the next room are in the patio, you will hear the conversation very clearly at night. I kind of wished the couple next to my room just shut up or go back to their room when they criticized and chatted non-stop for about an hour and disturbed the tranquility I paid for to read in my room. The room was a little hot when I arrived late night and I had no choice but to have the patio/garden door open for ventilation for an hour or so. Yet after that I had to turn on the fireplace since it was pretty cool at night.

This probably won't apply to the cabins, but if privacy is a concern, this is something to consider.

We have stayed here twice in the last year. This hotel is an oasis in an already beautiful area of the world. There is no television or phone in the room which you don't need if your in a place like Big Sur anyway! The rooms are very clean and comfortable with gas fireplace, upscale tiled bathroom that includes heated floor and a private patio area. Try the Big Sur Bakery for breakfast and Nepenthe for lunch or dinner. The desk staff was very helpful with directions to local points of interest. The fire pit and water feature with benches was a lovely place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.
