Spent one night here while doing a Big Sur/Carmel trip. We arrived just past the wine and cheese tasting ended however they still offered us a glass of wine and a small cheese plate to share which was nice. I had never been to Big Sur before so didn't know what to expect other than what I had heard from some friends that the area was a little throwback to the 60's. I would have to say I agree with that statement in general but the Ventana Inn was really nice. It is perched on the top of a hill with wonderful view of the coast from the restaurant. Our room, classified as a regular guest room, was nice (but still pricey by most standards) with a little balcony outside and alcove inside to sit on. The ceilings were high with wood all the way up the walls so you felt like you were in a cabin. The tub had sliding doors on it that opened to the bedroom side so it made the bathroom feel big. The shower was large and had nice natural slate tile in it and on the floor of the bathroom.
The bed was very comfortable and it was so quiet and peaceful there at night. The place is adult only as they have a clothing optional pool and hot tub. Don't fear, they also have a clothing required pool and hot tub. Continental breakfast is included in the rate and has a number of items from hard boiled eggs to croissants to fruit to muffins, bread, bagels etc. they also had some mini quiche that were cold and didn't taste that great. You can order breakfast if you want from a menu. Take the trail walk to breakfast as it is nice to walk between the redwood and oak trees. They have little benches and chairs to stop and sit on if you want to relax. We had deer on the trail on our walk back which was nice. I would give this place a 5 star if it weren't for the high cost of the room and the additional "resort fee" charges. If guess you are paying for the exclusive nature of the place with that. It was an enjoyable trip and would recommend the place but be prepared to fork over some cash!
