“Heavenly relaxing getaway in Big Sur”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

My husband and I were taking a very delayed anniversary trip and fortunately spent it at Ventana. It's an upscale luxury hotel with a rustic romantic feel. The rooms are plush an cozy and ours had a fireplace with a great tub to view it from. We tried to experience everything from the clothing optional pool to the free morning pilates or yoga classes to a nice leisurely walk on the trails.
If you're looking for a romantic getaway this is the place to go!

Room Tip: We were in a room on a lower floor. Although it was incredibly private I might try for a higher flo...

We wanted a special "getaway" for our anniversary and Ventana Inn was perfect. Although there were cars in the parking lot, we felt like we had the place to ourselves and we rarely saw others. The room was like a mini-cabin and the views off the deck were spectacular, particularly at sunset and laying on the hammock to look at the stars at night. We had Big Sur Suite 57, which I highly recommend as not only having a view, but also really affording privacy because it is on a different level than the other rooms in the Bay House. The staff were friendly and responsive. Definitely the perfect place if you are looking for a romantic couples getaway for a few days.

Room Tip: Room 57 in the Bay House has a deck with a view of the ocean and spectacular sunsets and also of the...

My wife and I had a great time. it was idyllic. The Japanese baths were amazing. The walk to the restaurant was beautiful. A side note, the smoothie they serve with breakfast was the best smoothie we had ever had. Love the fact they don't allow kids. A suggestion: Reserve a lunch next door at the Post Rance Inn. The Ventana will drive you there and pick you up. I have run out of superlatives to describe the view while you eat the 3 course lunch overlooking the ocean.

Superlative location high on a hillside above Big Sur yields timeless mountain to ocean views. Stunning silence greets you as you move outside your guest room, broken only by the chirping of birds. But it is the fragrant air that surpasses other sensations, with fresh aromas of flowers and nutmeg.

Service is unobtrusive and good; only the property's Restaurant at Ventana lets the five-star experience down, with minor imperfections and a surprising disregard for service amongst a few of its staff.

My fiancée and I were road trippin' in the Pacific Coast Highway, and our plan was to continue driving to Monterey, when we passed through Ventana Inn & Spa. Never having heard of the hotel, our interest was caught by the huge sign with the name of hotel, which included the word "spa" in the end. After long hours of driving, that is pretty much exactly what we wanted.

It was about 6pm when we drove inside the parking lot and were surprised that they had a golf car to pick us and our luggage. When we got to the reception, we were welcomed by this lovely lady in the front desk, who immediately offered us some wine while we checked in. Although we did not have a reservation, she found us a room, explained us how the hotel worked (the DVD library, the pools, the spa, the restaurant, the tours, and the list goes on...), and we went curiously to see what we would get.

When we opened the door..."WOW!!!...OMG, LOOK AT THIS PLACE, HONEY!". Yes, we were in shock. So amazed...it was perfect. The room was huge, it had a king size bed, a fireplace, a TV playing this really smooth jazz, a bathtub, a terrace, and the space, the decoration and the mood were exactly what every couple is looking for. As if it wasn't enough, the lovely lady from the reception (I believe her name is Elisa), who had earlier offered us wine while checkin' in, sent us a bottle of wine as a courtesy and welcoming us to a pleasant stay, just for the simple fact that when checkin in, she offered us a cabernet and a pinot noir, to what we chose the cabernet, and she felt ashamed that she ran out of the cabernet, feeling the need to send us one later. We would personally like to thank her for this gently gesture and for everything she's done for us during our stay!

We decided to try out the Japanese bath in the lower swimming pool, which was great, 'cause we were the only ones there, having the whole place for ourselves and just relaxing!

After that, we had a reservation on the restaurant for 9pm. Again, we were already surprised when we got there, but we left telling each other this exact sentence: "it was one of the best meals I've had in my whole life!". They offer a four course meal for $80, and it is worth every cent. The chef is incredible!

After an amazing night sleep, we headed to the breakfast, which isn't the biggest deal of the hotel: they offer a continental breakfast, but it has everything you may want: yogurt, coffee, cereal, bagels and bread, juices, eggs, fruits and other things.

And to finish our incredible stay, after breakfast we had a reservation in the spa for a couples experience massage, which was perfect. We had 20 minutes in a bathtub bubble bath with tea and chocolates, and then headed to the massage, which was indeed amazing!

And Big Sur...well, it is stunning! Anywhere you go, you'll be surprised with how beautiful it is...

Ventana Inn and Spa isn't cheap, we know it. But if you're able to afford at least one day in it, you won't regret it. We had a wonderful experience, we will definitely go back when we can, and we're even considering getting married there! Thank you for that!

Room Tip: King size bed and fireplace room.

We have stayed at Ventana many times and the property is amazing There are beautiful rooms which can be selected with care. It is worth the splurge to get a view room with hot tub on the deck & fireplace in the room. The trails are wonderful & it is so peaceful. It certainly is not inexpensive but you never have to leave the property. There is a wonderful path to walk to & from the restaurant. Restaurant's food & service is wonderful with a very good wine list.

Room Tip: I don't think it matters for the view because although the view of the ocean & sunset is inc...
