My fiancée and I were road trippin' in the Pacific Coast Highway, and our plan was to continue driving to Monterey, when we passed through Ventana Inn & Spa. Never having heard of the hotel, our interest was caught by the huge sign with the name of hotel, which included the word "spa" in the end. After long hours of driving, that is pretty much exactly what we wanted.
It was about 6pm when we drove inside the parking lot and were surprised that they had a golf car to pick us and our luggage. When we got to the reception, we were welcomed by this lovely lady in the front desk, who immediately offered us some wine while we checked in. Although we did not have a reservation, she found us a room, explained us how the hotel worked (the DVD library, the pools, the spa, the restaurant, the tours, and the list goes on...), and we went curiously to see what we would get.
When we opened the door..."WOW!!!...OMG, LOOK AT THIS PLACE, HONEY!". Yes, we were in shock. So amazed...it was perfect. The room was huge, it had a king size bed, a fireplace, a TV playing this really smooth jazz, a bathtub, a terrace, and the space, the decoration and the mood were exactly what every couple is looking for. As if it wasn't enough, the lovely lady from the reception (I believe her name is Elisa), who had earlier offered us wine while checkin' in, sent us a bottle of wine as a courtesy and welcoming us to a pleasant stay, just for the simple fact that when checkin in, she offered us a cabernet and a pinot noir, to what we chose the cabernet, and she felt ashamed that she ran out of the cabernet, feeling the need to send us one later. We would personally like to thank her for this gently gesture and for everything she's done for us during our stay!
We decided to try out the Japanese bath in the lower swimming pool, which was great, 'cause we were the only ones there, having the whole place for ourselves and just relaxing!
After that, we had a reservation on the restaurant for 9pm. Again, we were already surprised when we got there, but we left telling each other this exact sentence: "it was one of the best meals I've had in my whole life!". They offer a four course meal for $80, and it is worth every cent. The chef is incredible!
After an amazing night sleep, we headed to the breakfast, which isn't the biggest deal of the hotel: they offer a continental breakfast, but it has everything you may want: yogurt, coffee, cereal, bagels and bread, juices, eggs, fruits and other things.
And to finish our incredible stay, after breakfast we had a reservation in the spa for a couples experience massage, which was perfect. We had 20 minutes in a bathtub bubble bath with tea and chocolates, and then headed to the massage, which was indeed amazing!
And Big Sur...well, it is stunning! Anywhere you go, you'll be surprised with how beautiful it is...
Ventana Inn and Spa isn't cheap, we know it. But if you're able to afford at least one day in it, you won't regret it. We had a wonderful experience, we will definitely go back when we can, and we're even considering getting married there! Thank you for that!
