“Great Place to Stay, but may not be worth the cost.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

Overall the resort is beautiful and the rooms have nice amenities. However, I had a hard time justifying spending $750 per night for a fairly small room that was comparable to $350 room at a standard luxury hotel.

We were lucky enough to find the Ventana Inn on Sniqueaway and booked a trip at a very favorable price. Everything about our stay was delightful: our room was attractive, we enjoyed the Japanese baths, and we took advantage of the free yoga classes and daily hikes. The breakfasts were wonderful and the public spaces in the resort were lovely. We also had some terrific treatments at the spa. We found out on the last night that the resort offers shuttle service to some of the nearby restaurants, which is a particular plus if you want to dine at Deetjens, which might require you to park on the shoulder of a pitch black Highway 1! Overall, we found the staff to be very helpful and nice.

We only stayed for 1 night and this was the biggest error ever. It is truly a gorgeous place and a whole experience in itself. We traveled for 19 days and this was one of our favorite places.

We enjoyed the free yoga class and wished we could have done the nature hike. We were thrilled with the free champagne waiting for us in our suite. Dinner in the dining room was one of the most delicious ever. The service was excellent and made my husband's 40th birthday a luxurious experience. Brunch was delicious but we wished they had served Chai Lattes. Free parking daily and even the cars had an amazing view.

The pools and spas are totally out of this world and we are sad to live so far away from this heavenly place....

Had one night to stay in Big Sur and we were absolutely delighted with Ventanna! Impeccable grounds and rooms. Dinner at the restaurant was superb! Booked through Perfect Escapes and received $50 towards dinner and a room upgrade....nice! Expensive, but worth the splurge.

Room Tip: We had a fireplace room that was awesome!

we got a very nice deal on the ventana inn from sinqueaway.com and booked a big sur suite for two nights. i only wish we had been able to stay three. it was wifey's birthday and when we told the reception area about it, they had a bottle of veuve-cliquot champagne sent to the room. thanks very much, that was a nice touch. the room itself (i think it was #50) had a beautiful view and got almost all day sun on an amazingly mild weekend. it was so warm that we sunbathed at the pool and on our large balcony! the room itself was very nice and expansive (and also totally quiet even though there were guests in the next room). someone earlier had posted a negative review about the place being "rustic" and that (gasp?!) people showed up to wine and cheese in their bathrobes (so what....). i'm going to give the rooms a new description-lustic-for "luxurious rustic". yes, the wood timber walls do give it a rustic fell but it is very high end rustic, hence "lustic"! the walking trails around the property were very nice for exploring, and the wine and cheese reception from 4-5 pm is a nice entree to ventana (i'd actually extend the hours to 1.5 hrs-only one hour seems a bit tight). also the breakfast was limited but nicely done with espresso/cappucino available if asked for. we also had dinner at the restaurant one night which was very good (it's not quite as good as post ranch's restaurant and views but it is half the price and imho a better deal than post ranch for the price). we will definitely be back if we find the deal on sinqueaway again. thanks guys!

Room Tip: room 50 or 52-they are suites and more expensive but worth it

My wife and I drove up the PCH from Santa Monica to Carmel and we stayed one night at the Ventana Inn. Beautiful weather and incredible scenery combined to make this one of our best experiences of our trip. My wife enjoyed the complimentary massage and our room (52) met our high expectations but the view exceeded our expectations with the ocean in view from our balcony and the Santa Lucia mountains in view from our back window. I agree with others who have reviewed this that make the comment that this place feels like another world and it does. We loved the walking path to the restaurant and the hiking path that makes its way through Redwoods and views of the mountains. We loved it!

Room Tip: We had the ventana suite room 52 that overlooked the ocean in front and the mountains in back. What...

I stayed at the Ventana Inn & Spa for 2 days in December, and it was amazing! It's located in Big Sur, tucked away in the hills. It's so quiet and peaceful, and has beautiful grounds. The rooms were clean and confortable, and had amazing views of the ocean. We used the gym, went to a yoga class, and ran along the 1.5 mile trail loop in the woods. They also have a great breakfast, with lots of fresh berries and healthy food. You could literally just stay on the grounds the entire time you're here.
