We stayed for a short week with Dunja and Gabriel. They are very gracious hosts. I caught a nice snapper one day and Gabriel cooked it up for all of us to share (he is good in the kitchen and makes the best italian style coffee in town). When we left to go camping at the end of our stay, they kept some items safe for us that we didn't need (all that warm clothing!). This hotel is very underpriced for the bright, clean interior spaces and styling. I would have expected $75-80 a night for the details and having the convenience of a nice restaurant downstairs (far better food than John Grey's next door).
Speaking of the restaurant, it is wonderful in its own regard: wardm terra cotta tones, sconces handmade from huge caracol shells, tasteful music, a nice selection of cold beers and Dunja's thoughtfully collected wines (hard to find in MX), and -of course- Gabriel's excellent and creative cooking.
Their sense of style blends whitewashed beach house, Carribean warmth, and european sophistication. The place is beautiful, and being set back against the mangroves gives the place a sense of peace you don't get closer to the hustle and bustle along the beach. We will stay with them again next time even if it's twice as much.
