We reserved one night here for $40 and paid an addional $10 for breakfast (cash only paid upon arrival). The hotel is located a few blocks from the beach which has very little breeze and close to what appeared to be a dirty swamp. It was very hot and humid and we made the mistake of not renting an air conditioned room. Upon arriving we were pleasantly greeted by the Dunya and Gabriel. They sat in front of the restaurant smoking cigarettes most of the time we were there. The music was nice and the restaurant very clean and nicely decorated. We went to our room and were dissappointed at what we saw. The room was tiny, musty and hot with only one picture on the wall, nothing compared to the nice decor downstairs. We attempted to switch after smelling the neighbors outhouse when we opened one of the few small windows in the tiny room. We tired to swicth rooms but the air conditioned rooms were unavailiable. We went to town to look for a dinner spot and were told about Bodas Restaurant which was very good, the duck pate was delicious and included with the meal, great service and ambiance. We noticed that Bodas was also a hotel called Hacienda Morelos. They had one room availiable for $67 which was very large with air conditioning, on the ocean with a full view and a refreshing pool right outside our door. We returned to Caracol and informed them that we had booked another room elsewhere with air-conditioning and we would return for breakfast. Upon returning the next morning we were served delicious watermelon juice, coffee, bread with jam and butter and a little fruit. Again, we were dissappointed compared to the awsome full meal that we could have gotten elsewhere for $10. I would not recommend this hotel and am bewildered how it got such good ratings by other travellers.

We stayed for a short week with Dunja and Gabriel. They are very gracious hosts. I caught a nice snapper one day and Gabriel cooked it up for all of us to share (he is good in the kitchen and makes the best italian style coffee in town). When we left to go camping at the end of our stay, they kept some items safe for us that we didn't need (all that warm clothing!). This hotel is very underpriced for the bright, clean interior spaces and styling. I would have expected $75-80 a night for the details and having the convenience of a nice restaurant downstairs (far better food than John Grey's next door).
Speaking of the restaurant, it is wonderful in its own regard: wardm terra cotta tones, sconces handmade from huge caracol shells, tasteful music, a nice selection of cold beers and Dunja's thoughtfully collected wines (hard to find in MX), and -of course- Gabriel's excellent and creative cooking.
Their sense of style blends whitewashed beach house, Carribean warmth, and european sophistication. The place is beautiful, and being set back against the mangroves gives the place a sense of peace you don't get closer to the hustle and bustle along the beach. We will stay with them again next time even if it's twice as much.

We came from the crowded beaches of Isla Mujeres and looked for a relaxing and calm place. When we arrived at Caracol, Puerto Morelos we found it.

Our room was spacious with a small kitchenette, bathroom and aircon.
During our stay, Gabriel and Dunja (the Swiss owners) were adding their own personal touch to the hotel, like making lamps out from seashells. Beautiful!!!

We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at this hotel and the owners, who always took their time to chat or help us find our way and advise us on local specialties.

We highly recommend this place, and we would definitely go there again if we go to Yucatan.

We arrived at night and the owner had stayed up, to wait for us, even when we was an hour later than expected. The room was clean, there was no noise and we slept very well after 24h travel. Off cause for $40 you get no luxury hotel, but here you get a lot for you money. If you want a base for seeing all the attraction on yucatan, this hotel is a good choice. Puerto Morelos is not so touristed compared to cancun and playa del carmen. In less than five minutes you are at the beach. If you want pool and everything in your resort, go for an all-exclusive resort.
