“Fantastic Experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

This was our first trip to the Cancun/Riviera Maya area. We took our two children and went with another family. It was a great time for everyone! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They legitimately looked and acted like they enjoy what they do. I have never seen bartenders works so hard keeping up with orders (Cris would always tell us “Excellent choice!” with every drink order…that is now our new catch phrase at home).
The hotel was also able to accommodate our request to have adjoining rooms with the other family with whom we travelled. Other resorts we have visited in the past have been unable to do so.
The food was off the charts with so many different and delicious varieties each day. I would highly recommend all of the restaurants on the resort. You will not go wrong. Plenty of activities and entertainment in the evenings. The unexpected bonus was that the resort was just small enough that allowed our 13 and 11 year-old to explore, eat, swim, etc. on their own for much of the time…giving them a feeling of independence they had never experienced before.
The pool was quite spacious and never felt over-crowded and the kids had a ball jumping off the pool cliff and running the slides. The hot tub area is for adults only and it is also quite large with a tiki bar right next to it (bonus!).
The main complaint that we had is that the beds were way too hard for our liking. They could use pillow tops or something similar. Sleep is fairly important to most on vacations; so hopefully, they look address this for future guests. Ask for extra pillows!
The shuttle to and from the airport was timely as the resort is not too far from Cancun. Rafael from Olympus Travel was very helpful to us.
Overall, a wonderful trip that our family will never forget. We highly recommend the El Cid.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms off ground level to get away from external noises, staff carts, etc. Might be difficu...

The resort is very nice! The restaurants are great and the staff is very friendly too! If you plan to take a taxi I recommend renting s car bc the taxis are extremely expensive and the driving is very easy. The private beach is nice but it is definetely not as pretty as Cancun. It is a wonderful family resort and I look forward to stay there again in the near future!

We did so much research trying to decide where to get married. After hours and hours of reading reviews and checking out each resort, we decided on El Cid. We weren't sure if we would be able to pull off the perfect wedding without visiting the resort first and we were also worried about making our 42 guests happy as well.
From the moment we arrived, we knew we made the right choice. We made sure all of our guests booked Platinum Rooms and it was well worth it. From the check-in process to the additional services they offered we were so well cared for.
Gabriel was our butler our entire stay and he absolutely went way above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. He personally made sure my dress and husbands suit were pressed the day of our wedding by coming in much earlier than his start time. Making sure we had drinks and ice to entertain our guests in our room every night. He even drove me and my wedding party on the beach to get us to the jetty for the wedding so we wouldn't have to walk on the sand. He was so great!!!!!
Marina, our wedding coordinator, exceed our expectations and made sure every detail was covered. Throughout the whole process she was always willing to help and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Including asking her mom to buy us some Mexican candies that we wanted to include in our welcome baskets. We had no idea when we chose El Cid how unbelievable the staff would be. I can't say enough about them.
The trip was a huge success. Our guests were all so happy and couldn't say enough good things about the resort. Everyone wants to go back to celebrate our first wedding anniversary next year.

Couple of others tips, the food was pretty good but our favorite place to eat was Hacienda. For lunch they had carne asada, chicken or fish they can cook fresh and it was delicious. Highly recommend it. For dinner we also loved Hacienda, we loved the Mexican food.
Our room was amazing, very big with a tub inside and nice view but it was far from the beach. We were in building 18. We like our guests rooms better in buildings 14 & 15, they had a great view of the Ocean.

We would all love to go back and hope we do at some point.

This was our second trip to the Marina El Cid. Our first trip was in October of 2011 to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. It turned out to be a great trip. The hotel did many special things for us to help celebrate our anniversary. The grounds, staff, food and room were all excellent, so good that we couldn't wait to book our return trip. We did return this year May 17-23rd and I have to say that it was the best vacation we have ever had. We really enjoyed relaxing by the pool during the day and also taking some naps in the hammocks on the beach. The various evening entertainment by the pool was wonderful, we especially enjoyed the fire show! Also, we found the food to be excellent in all the restaurants. We really enjoyed Alcazar Restaurant, the presentation of the food was fabulous and delicious and so were our waiters. The main lobby bar in the evening was great. The band that was playing was one of the best we have ever heard at any hotel. They played a mix of different styles of music that was wonderful to listen too and even dance too. The staff in all areas were always attentive to our needs and always responded quickly to our requests and always with a smile. We had room service in our room one night and it was delivered quickly and they even set it up for us and to our surprise everything was even still hot. If you have been considering the Marina El Cid for your vacation go ahead and book it, you will not be disappointed! We have already booked our third trip back to the Marina El Cid for November 21-30, 2013. Can't wait to vacation again at the Marina El Cid, they ROCK!!!.

We were at the Marina El Cid for our wedding on May 1, 2013 with approximately 60 family and friends. We were at the resort for a week from April 28 - May 6. We did have a few hiccups when we checked in. My parents were supposed to be upgraded, however the front desk upgraded my uncle's room instead. When we told the front desk about this on check-in they said there was nothing they could do to fix the reservation and my parents would have to be moved tomorrow. Now we have been to the resort before and know what it is like when it is busy. The hotel was no where near capacity and the manager/supervisor on duty even told me that there was upgraded rooms free, but she was still unable to move my parents till the next day for some reason. This didn't make sense to me, and I assumed in the end that although they have a manager on duty after 5pm, they have really no ability to do anything besides ask the General Manager when he is back on shift the next day. Also in general, the front desk is not pleasant to deal with and often was rude or off putting if they needed to do anything for you even if you tipped.

However, after this the rest of our stay and our wedding was amazing! Our wedding coordinator Melina that we had been in contact with by email up to the event had everything prepared and went above and beyond to ensure everything was done properly! From our wedding ceremony on the beach, to salon appointments, to our dinner and dance, everything went off on time and without a hitch thanks to her! Melina made sure all our decorations were setup properly, all the meal information was given to the restaurants and coordinated setup with our DJ's and photographers! We couldn't have done all this without her!

Javier was the manager in charge of our reception and all the food service and please let him know he was fantastic! He even was able to get our wedding party dinner reservations when the restaurant was at full capacity!

Mr. Bustamante please pass on our sincere thanks to Melina and Javier. However, your front desk staff requires some adjustment on both their attitudes and their ability to correct situations when they have made errors.

Overall I would most definitely recommend the El Cid hands down! This was after all our second time there!

we visited marina el cid from june 4-10th. this was our second visit here, we first went 2 years ago. I had requested the same room we had last time, building 19, 5th floor, it had a great view, and plenty of room since it was a junior suite. my kids are ages 16 and 13. they still liked the resort, but they are getting a bit older, and they did not do the cliff jump as many times as last time. my son had fun playing water basketball, and my daughter liked the boogie boards and kayaks they had available. we arrived right after a huge amount of rain fell, about 2 days prior. so the elevator in our building was not working right, they offered us a first floor room, but we wanted the view, so we did the stairs, what a good workout! the swim up bar was out of service for the first few days too, but it was up and working before we left. we had no complaints really, small things, our room air did not seem to really cool the room down, still was very musty and damp in there. and our shower hardly had any water pressure at all, so we had this beautiful big shower, but you had to stay under the shower head to get any water. we did not report these issues as they were not that big of a deal for us. although, by the end of our stay we wished we would have at least mentioned the air conditioning problem. we got hot at the end. we had wonderful service, we loved gregorio in the breakfast and lunch buffet down by the pool. he was always smiling and remembered i liked my ice tea with "no sugar no lime" and he brought it every time! so sweet. i also had a groundskeeper who was so sweet, we were heading somewhere, maybe dinner, and it was raining, and i had a small umbrella i had packed from home, he had a huge el cid umbrella he was using and he stopped and gave it to me, i was so excited to get that big umbrella, and that was just a super nice thing to do, i wished i would have caught his name. the food was good, we never went hungry, and my kids loved the room service, ours was very prompt. i do wish this resort had more to do if it was raining, maybe a pool table or arcade or something. we had our first day and a half were rain. kids were bored. we ended up getting a very expensive taxi to go to playa del carmen to shop for the day. it all worked out. we had a great time, not sure if we will try something new next year or not. but this trip was fun,and we were happy we chose marina el cid. oh, and one more thing, we never got hit up for timeshare presentation at all. i was even thinking about sitting through it this time.

Room Tip: we loved our top floor junior suite in building 19.

We went to El Cid with my family for vacation. Unfortunately, we picked a bad week to go with torrential rains the entire time. Regardless the weather, the staff was attentive, helpful and friendly.

I liked how the resort was small. We've been to other Resorts in the area and they require trams and tons of walking to get to the different restaurant. This was very easy --especially for my 3 and 5 year old.
