“What can you say but EXCELLENCE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013

Our 4th visit to Excellence Riviera Cancun in the last 2 years and just a magnificent time again.
From the moment you step out of the transport, you are awed by the beauty and service. Daniel was there to welcome us "back home", and Mariana and Karen greeted us at the lobby with warm hugs and champagne!

Off to the Excellence Club to check in with Jenny and Ana and see Luis again - our "family" away from home (and that is how they ALWAYS treat us!); welcome Rosalita - what a great, warm, smiling addition to the Club!

The staff at Excellence is absolutely GREAT; Mariana and Karen - you both are THE BEST and we think of you both as OUR family; Moises - you ARE Cielo (the Excellence Club pool bar) and we never want to see you anywhere else; Sergio, always there to help with pool towels and lounges; Luis and Rosalita at the Club - thank you for your warm smiling service; Juan at the Martini Bar - always nice to see you again and talk (I'll bring the onions for the martini's??); Carlos - a wonderful and knowledgeable sommelier - what a great addition; Juan at Chez Isabel -a GREAT host for a GREAT dining experience; Santiago at Tuscana - pleasant and helpful could not do enough for us; the staff at Barcelona - Antonio, Gabriella (such a beautiful smiling face) and the REST of the wait staff hustling and making everyone comfortable; the Chefs - WOW - LOVE the food!!! Roberto at Spice was extremely friendly and Armando - our chef - made a meal that was EXCELLENTO!

Alfonso (Pauncho) the tennis pro is one of the BEST I've played with and makes everyone a better player, while having a great time!

The entertainment at Excellence is always great and the shows are worth seeing (even again). The resort property is magnificent and well maintained and the rooms are always clean and comfortable (thank you Housekeeping Staff).

We can not say enough about Jean-Francois and his staff and the absolute warm and sincere hospitality that is exhibited by everyone you meet at Excellence.

This is our "go to place" whenever we need to relax and be surrounded by great service, food and ambiance!

Room Tip: EXCELLENCE CLUB rooms - great ambiance and worth the extra $$$ (just hope OUR room is always availab...

I cannot express enough how in love we are with this property and the staff. It truly is "Excellente!". We stayed in building 7 again (Excellence Club) and we think it's totally worth it. Quieter pool, quieter beach, free honeymoon/anniversary package and the best part, the staff at the club! Special thanks to Moises, Jonathan, and Melissa who took care of us everyday. Ernesto, Margarita and Rosa too! Miss them already. Jenny who checked us in and also stopped by the pool every other day or so to see us and to make sure we didn't need anything. Dinner at the wine cellar...truly amazing topped off by the Boston Red Sox cake. WOO HOO! Luiz at Spice- this is our favorite restaurant and went there 4 times (1 for hibachi) and had him every time. He remembered us and my husband's allergy to seafood and made us special appetizers and our wine glasses were never empty. Thanks! Mariana in customer relations is amazing. So helpful, friendly and remembers everything you tell her! We met the GM Jean-Pierre at a manager's cocktail reception and it was so nice to meet and talk with him. Every time we saw him on the property after that, he would stop and talk to us and remembered our names. Something new this year (at least I don't remember it last year) is the Brazilian skewers at the Grill House...wow was that good!!! I know I am forgetting a lot of people there so I apologize but I am still on cloud 9 after our 10 days in luxury. Counting the days until next November!!!

Just returned from a beautiful 4 night stay with another couple. ERC is a very nice resort.

The pool bar is situated in a great location with stunning views of the beach. Would highly recommend dining at Agave - they have yummy food and strong margaritas. Would also recommend reserving a spot at the Hibachi table at Spice (go to Spice when they open for dinner service to put your name on the list).

My only complaint would be that service is pretty slow for dinner, we would typically go out around 7 and a few nights we even missed the 9:30 show, we were ok with this as we were relaxed and on vacation.

Beware of the road getting to the resort - the other reviews don't lie. It easily take 20 minutes to go down a mile long road due to the flooding and extreme potholes. We felt very bad for our seasons tours drivers.

My husband and I have stayed at all three exellence properties and we love them all, however, we felt that while ERC was very nice, the pool itself (prefer EPM), the beach (prefer EPC) and the room (prefer EPM) weren't as nice as the other two properties.

Could not say enough positive things about this hotel.

We have stayed with Excellence Resorts once before at another property, we definitely prefer Riviera Cancun.

We had a private taxi transfer which always gets your holiday off to a good start. First impressions, the hotel is stunning. Very friendly and efficient reception staff.

Our room was in 3 block. This block is towards the spa end of the hotel and as such is quiter. That said this is definitely not a party hotel, we had the most wonderful chilled and relaxed time. The rooms are massive as are the beds. I had some of the best night sleep I've had in a long while.

Great choice of restaurants and the food is delicious in each. The French and Chinese are both wonderful but wait times can be long on the busiest evenings. Soooo worth the wait though. The Indian is great and the staff were great, even when my other half decided to try abut of almost everything on the menu! The buffet restaurant and breakfast had so much choice, never once got bored.

The activities programme is great, lots of variety and plenty to do whether you are feeling super active or just want a gentle yoga class.

Lovely walk down the beach to Porto Morellos. Best to go late aft when the heat has subsided.

The pool is huge and round the spa area usually very quiet. There is also a lovely little juice bar by the spa who make fresh blended fruit drinks. This was our mid morning fix!

Overall we had a beautiful and relaxed holiday where both myself and my husband got to totally unwind. Will definitely be returning in the future x

Room Tip: Blocks 3&4 near the spa area are quiter

I came to ERC last November for my honeymoon and it was amazing. Great service, incredible shows, beautiful property. The food has remained amazing, but the entertainment was HORRIBLE in comparison to last year. We were there for 10 days and saw "The Urban Show" twice. Garbage. The worst was their "brand new Sensuality Show". They played some soft core on a giant screen at the back of the stage and had "dancers" lying down in front miming humping. It was so painfully terrible and the steady stream of audience members standing up and leaving should have made it obvious to the managers that if we want porn, we'll watch it in our rooms. I felt embarrassed for the dancers. The Cirque Du Soleil type show that amazed us last year was absent, as was the Mayan show. The Arabian Nights show was scheduled for the night we left, which just made me curse the wasted time of the Urban Night (twice!!) and the Sensuality Show even more. The Rock and Roll night was great (just a band). The Mexican Night show reminded my mother in law of her daughters dance recitals. It was boring and awkward. The Fire show was incredible.

There was a sewage smell throughout the resort. I understand that they have had more rain than they are supposed to this time of year, but it was pungent and revolting. I noticed it in remote parts of the resort last year, but this year it was EVERYWHERE. When I asked the front desk staff if there had been some kind of problem, she acted as if she had no idea what I was talking about "Smell? There's no smell" as people were gagging walking into the martini bar.

I got eaten alive by sand fleas in our back yard (swim up suite) so bad I almost went to the doctor when we got home, the swelling and itching was unbearable. Making the extra money we paid for swim up useless.

We took the "free" cab to puerto morales from the resort. I questioned that it was only available at 6pm, but was assured that because of Christmas Hours" the shops would be opened until 8pm and we were led to believe that the town was decorated with lights, etc for Christmas. Nope. It was a small town in the dark, most shops were shut, no decorations, it was a waste of our time and I'm still annoyed that the concierge misled us on it. Also, the shops that WERE open, tried to sell me a sarong for $40 USD. you can get them at the mall in Cancun for $7 USD. I felt like we were sent there to be had.

We won't be back, as I feel this resort is on a downhill slide. We brought my inlaws because it was so incredible last year, and we were so embarrassed at the lack of quality this year. I would not reccommend this resort. I still hold out hope that Playa Mujeres is good, but I wont be attempting it.

Room Tip: rooms in the spa circle are quieter. Worth the slightly longer walk to the beach.

We just came back (Nov 14th-17th) and had an awesome time!!! We went for a friends wedding. Backtracking a little, the road to get to the hotel is just a disaster! Potholes for a good 2 miles and no drainage. It stormed pretty bad when we got there and we almost felt like we were going to get stuck on the road. But we didn't. Got to the resort, greeted with a cold towel and a glass of champagne. Check in was fast and simple. Stayed in Spa3 (Spa is what they call their sections/ buildings) on the 2nd floor. The room was absolutely beautiful. We had a perfect view of the inner part of the resort and the spa. The mini bar was stocked with 5 big bottles of liquor, the fridge with sodas, beer, water, chips and candy (snickers and M&Ms) and of course, coffee with the coffee maker. Now for the food... not the best. Yes it was good but we were expecting like "WoW" type of foods, ya know. Although the Indian food at Basmati Restaurant was absolutely amazing. We also ate at Spice which is a Pan-Asian Restaurant and the food was good there as well. The Grill outdoor restaurant, was pretty good for lunch and Agave Restaurant also outdoors/indoors was okay at best. The wedding reception was held at the Lobster house. They offered Pork and Chicken. That's exactly how they told us about what our option was too. Either Pork or Chicken. I got the pork but it also came along side a piece of fish. Not that I minded the fish but those who couldn't have fish nor wanted fish had to return their dishes. Again, food was okay there at best. The fast food from Las Olas by the pool and beach area was pretty good and the room service food was good as well. The wedding ceremony was held on the pier and it was absolutely elegant and beautiful. The resort set it up nicely. Just the way the bride wanted it. Sweet and simple. We went to Alegria lounge for some drinks and dancing. Place is pretty awesome. Also spent the evenings at Stars which is and outdoor theater lounge. The entertainment was pretty good. Went to the spa to get my hair and makeup done for the wedding. $98 total, not a bad price at all and I looked absolutely beautiful! Also had and aqua therapy message along with a Swedish message which felt amazing. The spa was the best. The pool in the resort is basically a lazy river all the way around about 3.5 - 4ft deep with beds, lounge chairs, umbrellas, and tables all around. The swim up bar is the best. Sit right there in the pool at the bar, have your drinks and a great time. My friend (the bride) had a bridal sweet with 2 floor. Top floor roof deck with a private waterfall jacuzzi a private bed and a beautiful view of the beach. Of course her mini bar had top shelf liquor and her chocolates were Godivas. Overall, our experience at The Excellence was Excellent. We would definitely return!

Room Tip: The building we stayed in was Spa 3 and there's 7 Spa's (buildings). We were basically in t...
