“The best holiday ever !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

We stayed at this hotel Dec 2013/Jan 2014 and I can say without hesitation it was fantastic ! The staff are the nicest of anywhere we have ever visited, they literally cannot do enough for you. Without pestering you they are always there when you need them and will go out of their way to meet any needs you have. We were married on the beach and also stayed on for our honeymoon. The beach itself was lovely, although there is a fair amount of washed up seaweed the staff are working constantly to clear it. The choice of food was also fantastic with plenty of beautiful restaurants. We were upgraded to a swim up room as we were getting married but if we had the choice again, we would definitely pay extra to have this kind of room again, only due to the fact that we are fairly private people. The main pool areas were extremely well presented and well maintained. The was literally someone cleaning the pools and pool areas for hours each morning. As for the room itself, it was absolutely spotless. It was made up everyday, mini fridge restocked and the Jacuzzi filled for us !! There was also a wide variety of night time entertainment whether it be bands, performances etc. I cannot say enough positive things about this holiday and the hotel.

Room Tip: If you like privacy pay the extra and get a swim up room.

We (6 of us) have just returned from this resort and it was fantastic! We stayed in the adults only section, the rooms were very nice with all the amenities you could ask for (The most comfortable beds of any resort, Jacuzzi tub, well stocked fridge, rain shower, large balcony etc). The grounds are very well kept and easy to navigate. The beach was very nice (even the seaweed,**it is a national park area and it is not the hotels fault if the sea chose their location to leave it daily, but they do keep the beach clear of it) and the **Beach BBQ was well stocked with many different foods)The drinks were very good and we never had empty glasses! The service from the staff was impeccable, Salvadore and Carlos (from the swim up bar and the beach while we were there) was by far the best we have ever had. Salvadore asked our names the first time he served us, then we didn't go to where he was working ,for a day or 2 but when we back, he knew ALL 6 of our names as well as remembered what we drank! same as with Carlos the bartender, and never once did either of them appear to want to be anywhere else then right there at work (a lot of people in the service industry should go there just to learn to be that good!)The food was the best we have ever had at ANY resort (and we always stay at 5 star resorts). everything from the buffets(Oscar was amazing and again was one of the people who made our stay great, he knew what we wanted after the first day, what we drank for breakfast (3 mimosas, 1 black tea, 1 chamomile, 1 green tea and coffees!) and we can't forget **Super Mario** another server who was amazing and very entertaining! to the actual sit down restaurants. Impeccable presentation of every dish served, there was no disappointment at all. Most resort food is mediocre at best but I believe the Azul Sensatori has one of the top chefs behind the menus.I am a very early riser and they caught onto that after the second day (I mention this because the coffee station in the middle of the resort doesn't open until 6:30) on the 3rd day..coffee was ready to go at 5:30..I was very happy. New Years dinner was beyond amazing as was the dancing and festivities despite the rain. There were 6 of us that went to celebrate New Years and my husbands birthday and everyone of us will be back. We did not meet one staff member who didn't go above and beyond and that is impressive. Cheers out to Manuel one of the head porter/go to guy..loved the chats! Thanks to everyone who helped make our stay a memorable one!
The only 2 negatives I have is the cost at the spa, it has to be the most expensive I have ever seen..from resorts throughout all of the Caribbean, to cruise ships.(but we found 2 ladies down the beach who fixed us up and they were awesome and the walk was nice) and no shuttle service to either Cancun or Playa Del Carmen .
I have to say that I am not sure where all of those other people(with the very negative reviews)stayed at but it was not this resort (if it was then, they were the drunk and disrespectful ones).

Room Tip: 2410 was a great room!

The 1st thing was travellers from the UK, don't be misled in thinking Thompson Sensatori is just for the UK market, Thompson only own the Sensatori name and can apply it to any hotel they like. This is part of the Azul by Karisma hotel chain and can be booked by anyone worldwide.
The food and drink was top quality, even for those who chose to eat at the buffet restaurant there is still an option to order from a menu. As with all full inclusive resorts there was plenty of choice to chose from and the gourmet burgers in the Caribbean restaurant for lunch made a nice change. The BBQ on the beach was good if you managed to get there at the right time. TIP don't put to much food on plates as it goes cold quick, rather take small amounts and return regularly. The birds can be a nuisance you just have to keep watch and remove plates once finished. The standard bedroom we were allocated was in the family section although there was only 2 of us. this was huge and very high quality , having a Jacuzzi bath overlooking the Caribbean was a delight.
Yes there are a lot of weddings, there was 5 over the weekend we were there and you will find that parts of the hotel and restaurants are roped off , we had the mis-fortune to select the Italian restaurant the night of a wedding evening meal and service was not that great.
The beach is certainly not the best in the are, it is worth walking 5 minutes in either direction to be able to get into the sea. We went 5th December and the hotel wasn't that crowded so didn't really experience a great deal of drunkenness from American teens. Although I can see this could be an issue during busier periods of the holiday season having been to other hotels in the Cancun Hotel Zone. Outside of the hotel there is nothing to do and hotel booked taxis are expensive, a return to Playa Del Carmen was $90, much better to wait for the shuttle box to do a trip at 15$ PP.
Would I go back - YES but there are adult only hotels within the AZUL chain further down the Riviera Maya coastline that look even better so would probably select a differnet one next time

Room Tip: Worth attending the hotel premium suite presentation as this gives you free wifi and telephone calls...

We have been to, Live Aqua, Beach Palace, Paradisus and The Royal in Cancun and this is our first review. Compared to these hotels Azul was at the very bottom of the list. Everything was average at best, except for the beach, which was disgusting, There was sea weed and garbage on the beach and they cleaned it maybe once every 4 days. The water for some reason right along the beach isn't that crystal clear blue you get in the Cancun hotel zone or even as good as down in Playa, Its more of a murky brown that makes you want to stay by the pool. The best part of the resort was the Italian restaurant, where the food was pretty good. When we first got there I was in shock they wanted $40 for wifi, Which is insane, I have never been to an all inclusive in Mexico where they charged for internet. Not to mention it was the slowest internet I have had at any resort. The lobby has no AC so when you come to check in, its so hot you just want to get in and out to your room as fast as possible. Mini bar is a joke, they give you these crappy plantain chips and that's it. In the Premier Rooms you get juice, lay's chips and chocolate bars... so pretty much what you get in the Premier rooms is what you get at the all the other all inclusive s. Room service menu was ok but becomes very limited after 11pm. The Spa is way over priced. At the Royal we got a couples massage for $100 on the beach and at live aqua we payed $85 after the sales pitch but if we didn't get the sales pitch it was still only $150.... And at Azul... $245 for a couples massage... Outrageous...Azul wants to charge like there one of the best resorts in Cancun but they are far from it.The resort is surrounded by jungle, and they tell you to not go wandering around because of the Alligators, so your forced to take a cab to Playa or Cancun Compared to the other resorts we have stayed at. Live Aqua still takes the Cake (although my wife still thinks the Royal had the best food).

Room Tip: As close to the pool as possible but not close to the swim up bar where all the drunks hang out...un...

Thanks for your sharing your experiences with the trip advisor community and I am very sorry that we fell short of expectations on your recent visit, compared to other hotels within the Riviera Maya.

I would like you to know that we have daily cleaning of the beach area however due to the inclement weather received over the last weeks , the Ocean has been quite rough and has washed up more debris and ocean foilage than usual, unfortunately this is not within our control and we can assure you that we take great pride in our beach.

With our current room rates , WIFI is not considered as we believe all guests should beable to chose whether to purchase the service rather that following other hotels in the region and automatically charging the guests for this.

The lobby is fully airconditioned and is kept at a temperature of approximately 23 - 25 °C.
I am truly very sorry you believe that Vassa Spa is on the expensive side. The prices are very competitive, with treatments starting from just $50 usd and we have special daily , weekly and monthly promotions which offer vast savings.

The Azul Sensatori is situated just 20 mins from Cancun and close to the quaint town of Puerto Morelos , surrounded by Nature and the eco system of the Mangroves. It is very disappointed that you found no benefit to our beautiful surroundings. a little tip you can see a wonderful sunset from the lobby overlooking the mangroves.

again , we are very sorry that the Azul Sensatori was not the perfect fit for your holiday requirement , all comments have been carefully considered and will be used to perfect our facilities.

I will keep this concise for the sake of easy readability and getting my points across.

Positives:
-Friendly staff
-Alright location
-Nice beach
-Nice gym

Negatives:
-Full of drunks
-Noisy at night
-Poor communication between staff and guests in regards to events (i.e. private parties and weddings very often, usually with loud music… Often right outside peoples' rooms!)
-Cockroaches

We came here to relax. Our time spent at the hotel was usually surrounded by rowdy drunks and loud music. If you come to Azul Sensatori, I hope you're a party-person. You'll fit right in! But we aren't and subsequently didn't enjoy our stay as much as we thought we would.

The restaurants are also poor. We ate here because of the all-inclusive we'd paid for, but the meals were for the most part, pumped-out of the kitchen with little care. The best dinner restaurant was the Caribbean, but still average at best.

Room Tip: Building 4 - it may be the "family" building, but it's away from the rowdy drunken tee...

Here is our take on – Prestige Club, weddings, rooms, food, service and trip over all. We went with Sunwing.

Plane trip- there fine, home fine. Slight delay both times about 40 mins each way. Crowded and food is typical blah, but staff were excellent. Our media was broken on the way there so no movie, but it went fast as Michelle our stewardess was HILARIOUS and kept us entertained and wine flowing. The way home was hard as we arrived at 3am with a sick child but the staff was very accommodating moving usr so she could lie down and sleep. Thank heaven for 2 empty seats. We travelled 2 adults 2 kids but in a party of 22 for a wedding.

It rained for 6 of the 7 days - we only had 1 sun day and there were zero teenagers that week for our two to 'hang out' with. (a bunch arrived the day we were leaving!) There is no daytime entertainment when it rains, so it was a perfect recipe for a family with 2 teenagers to write 'nightmare vacation' but the truth is...... I would still go again and it was a great holiday because of the staff at the hotel and the quality of food/service was excellent.
They gave my kids free wifi in the lobby and free DVD's to borrow due to the rain, which they did not have to, and room service is included and my kids loved that. My boy ate non stop and my daughter just chatted with friends in the lobby on her phone, we had coffee and relaxed there every night and even in the day some times. Not ideal for a sun vacation but we were together and it was 25 degrees and warm not minus 25 like at home! Nights were dining and watching the evening entertainment/show. The Mojito lounge was bumping with good music for the over 18 crowd. We played games in the lobby and it was busy with people so that was fun.
Room - a little hic up here we thought we would be connecting but ended up with 2 rooms a few doors away from each other so girls in one room boys in other. Which to be frank upset me but ended up being great as it created nice bonding time with mom/daughter and dad/son. One room was the ocean view and it was beautiful and the other was not ocean but the view was still beautiful. Balcony was nice size with comfy couch and rack for wet bathing suits on it. Both rooms had 2 big beds a hot tub (great) and big bathroom. Doors are frosted glass so having the teenage boy in another room proved to be more private for showering!!! Maid service (we had Sonio) was the best I have ever known. Fresh sheets and towels without asking, and an animal towel made daily - we had a turtle, monkey, bear, donkey, swans just to name a few. Bar full of water and pop and beer, lots of shampoo etc. You have a concierge desk for each building - we were in 3 and Jonathan was ours - he was a GREAT helpful friendly (and funny) ask him about the Mayan Virgins, I won’t spoil it by telling you . He is a real asset to the hotel.
Karla their manager was always checking and very attentive. So friendly and helpful. My daughter lost her necklace and it was a 911 security moment and it was found within half an hour on a walkway and returned to her …. poolside! We had ants in the room one day and they sprayed within one hour. I didn't like the smell after a few days of rain so they came and scented the air with a lovely linen smell within one hour. We arrived to a few errors (the ‘no connecting room’ for us, air con not working, tv not working, no towels or water...... but manager had all fixed asap and to apologize, extended our checkout until 7pm for free the day we left and our bus came at 6:30 so that was a perfect compromise to me.

Food - Excellent, From buffet to the table service. We never did the gourmet 'Le Chic' but friends went and loved it. We had two teenagers with us so an 8 course 3 hour meal was not on the cards for us.
Mexican (family fav) - really good, you must get the taco's but the fish sandwich or personal wood fire pizza is a nice lunch alternative. Caribbean (my fav) - best calamari ever eaten was the common expression by our group, I had the spinach salad it was perfect, as was the salmon main course. Italian was 2 hours of dining so plan for it, but it’s well worth the wait, each course is small so do not be afraid to order, starter and salad and soup and a main. We went to spoons for dessert instead of staying at the Italian, there was a mariachi band planning in spoons and we wanted to see it.
‘Spoons’ the buffet - I wish they had salmon more than once, except that the food was good and the salads were my personal fav. Kids loved the chocolate dipped strawbs and mini mouse cups, Service was excellent - your glass was never empty.
Desserts were good too which compared at all other all inclusive I have been to, was a pleasant surprise.

Wedding - we went for a wedding - and it was the nicest wedding I have ever been to. Considering all the rain, they accommodated with an alternate location than the beach. Sad for my brother and new sister in law who dreamt of a beach wedding, but they were still overlooking the palm trees off a huge terrace, so it was better than here in the snow. The service was fun hearing it in Spanish! The reception later was awesome on the balcony of the Mexican restaurant with the best food I have ever had at a wedding! Steak, pork, chicken, shiskabobs, salmon, lobster tail, shrimp and fancy veg. My brother and his wife did the music and gave it to the DJ so we danced and ate and laughed. Perfect.Perfect.Perfect. After we moved to the Mojito lounge and then the beautiful wedding suite with wrap balcony over looking the ocean, we fell into bed at 3:30 am after room service burgers at 2am !

I think that's it? Oh drinks - really good and lots of choice. Mohito’s galore – I think they have 32 different ones! I am wine person and the white was tasty for house. Don’t get me started on shooters….so good but never again. Lol.

Ok….So everyone wants the negatives too so here they are.
Beach - not the best one I have seen, lots of seaweed but we had many storms remember.... the cabanas and beds are well maintained and there are lots on the beach to use, no getting up at 6am to 'save' a seat. Same with the pool, we always had a seat when we arrived.
Wifi is expensive.
No food allowed at the pool side – that’s a bummer. You have to go eat in a restaurant or go to the beach bbq for a burger or ribs or chicken or chips etc. Not a vast menu there. I like eating a snack at the pool then bigger dinners later. I missed that on our ONE sun day!
Spa - I think its expensive. I did have a massage and I have had many over the years and none as good as the one I had there though - so as the saying goes you get what you pay for. It was the 'extras' that made it special. The steam room with water therapy that came with it, the 'quiet room before to relax' with hot towels and neck warmers, the slippers and robes, the cucumber for the eyes and nuts and healthy green drink to relax with. My masseuse was kind and quiet and respectful. There was mold around the hot tub in the womens bathroom that needs some attention.
Mosquitos – take spray Benadryl. I have a few bites because of all the rain, most annoying on a flight back home.
One receptionist I think her name was Veronica never smiled, which is a shame as all the others were so nice. Seriously – SO NICE.
Store on site – SO EXPENSIVE. $18 for 4 batteries so pack well. $10 for a bag of chips. Eeek.
Distance – taxi’s are expensive to playa or Cancun $90 round trip. So share with another person or share a van. Book the shuttle, tour companies will work with you just be savvy.
The night market was cancelled due to the rain, I think they should bring it in doors if this happens, I was disappointed about not having vendors to look at. I do enjoy the banter and looking. They need to allow this 2 times a week or at least on the beach. We came home with zero purchases!
OK – the Prestige Club/Timeshare- whatever you want to call it. People love to complain about this. We went on the tour. We got all the free incentives, we had time to think. Nobody forced us to do anything. It was an offer we seriously considered and may well decide to sign up for when we go again next time (and we are going again for sure). At one point yes I did feel a little pressure so I said – ‘whoa I am feeling pressured’ and they backed right off, After a week I realized its not ‘pressure’ its ‘excitement’, they love the property and the product. I don’t blame them its excellent. I am talking from over 20 years of married travel to all inclusive, this was the best.

My final words –Book now and don’t forget to tip the service people and often. They are worth it. And talk to them, they are so pleasant and like to interact! Best Hotel ever.

Room Tip: We were in building 3 and will book it again, Jonathan the concierge is amazing. Worth being in his...

We stayed from 1st Jan 2014 for 10 days having booked in the adult only section.

The room was spacious and clean as per photos on Thomson website. For once the bed comfort was excellent; we have never slept so well on holiday. Mini bar had beer and soft drinks that were re-stocked daily. The room had all of the usual amenities and a particularly good hairdryer. Cleaners did different towel art not sure if this was due to small tip we left each day (20 pesos).

The hotel is quite compact so you do not have to walk far to get to the restaurants, bars or beach. The only restaurant you had to book was Le Chic and think this may be because it is only part of the all-inclusive package for Thomson customers. The restaurants were never full and service (apart from one occasion) was always attentive.

The zoning worked well and on the one occasion that children did come into the adult only section they were quickly asked to move on. The adult only bar was the main place that we went to drink and it offered a variety drink options. You do need to be aware that the apart from the Le Chic restaurant (which you would not want to eat in every night) all other dining experiences are mixed. This did spoil any chance of a romantic evening meal as you are seated by the staff who for some reason often sit you next to large groups (we assumed wedding parties) or families with children so lacked the ambience we sought . This is probably our biggest criticism of the hotel as it would be very easy for them to rectify this with more careful seating planning.

The food in all of the restaurants was very good and flavoursome, especially the Italian and Caribbean. Le Chic was very different and a little bit whacky. It was a taster menu of 12 courses over about 2 hours. It is worth trying just for the experience itself. The buffet restaurant offers a wide variety of foods and it would be disrespectful to report otherwise. If anyone was unable to put a meal together from what was on offer then we could only conclude that they are either fussy or non-adventurous eaters. It is the best food that we have had on an all-inclusive package and we had no stomach upsets which is a miracle based on previous experiences.

The staff were always trying to be very attentive and we found this to be the case whether you tipped or not. They did do some little extras if you tipped such as making up different shots for you to try at the bar. Staff were keen to please and provide service with a smile. We would like to name Carlos and Jorge at the Waves bar who were brilliant.

We did not engage in much of the entertainment on offer although when we did the staff were really good. Giovanni, Katinka and Omar worked really hard to keep guests entertained during the 7 days of rain. One day we randomly ended up playing Mexican bingo in the bar which was good fun and broke up the day well.

Most other guests were English or Canadian so there were lots of opportunities to socialise if you wanted to.

The beach was very nice to walk along although due to the rain we were not able to do this as much as we would have liked. Also we went out to the mangrove near the hotel and saw crocodiles which was an awesome experience.

This is relatively relaxed place and you need to make sure that you check what is going on and what is available otherwise you may miss out. We did not realise that you could help yourself to sparkling wine (champagne as they called it) in the reception area until the day we left.

It is a luxury yet not pompous experience.
