“Ocean Coral & Turquesa,”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2009

We just spent 5 days at the Hotel ( July 2009) , and we can tell that the entire facility is very clean, rooms are OK, do not expect great things , but beds are comfortable enough. The hotels has several sections and the one for families is really good . The staff is friendly. They have activities all days and the last one for chidren is at 8:30 p.m. For an All-inclusive Hotel is a very good option.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2009

We stayed July 7-12 on a phenomenal deal. After a bit of research I did revise reservation to upgrade to Priveledge and I feel it was well worth it. (the upgrade was about $130 for the five days.)

We arrived on a Tuesday and checked in at Priveldge desk, we had no problems and there was no wait. They made sure to tell us about dress code, reservations, towel cards, etc....(my kids were never turned away for wearing shorts, I did make sure they at least had collar shirts though).

Our room overlooked the quiet pool (sidenote, at full capacity, it's a private pool for Privedge & Premium only) and the ocean. Yes we saw a lot of sea grass, however some reviews really carry on about it and I'm not an ocean fan and I didn't see it as a big deal at all. We watched them clean/rake it 2-3 times / day.... Back to the room: We walked in and there was champagne, a fruit basket, and a plate of chocolate covered strawberries which looked delicious however my 7 year old scarfed them up in record time. We were not expecting this and thought it was great. Also there were t-shirts and baseball hats for the kids. Our shower/bathroom was not set up like the reviews of no privacy and leaking - we had one runoff of water when the 7 year old didn't have the door closed properly that was it. The shower however would go from perfect temperature, to scald hot, to ice cold to perfect temperature all on its own. It became predictable - shampoo in your eyes, shower goes to scald hot. Shaving? 5 seconds of ice cold. It was annoying. With turn down service, some days treats would just appear in the room, it wasn't consistent, so we just enjoyed it as a nice surprise when it happened.

It took us 3 days to read the in room info and find out we could request better pillows, and that took 1.5 days to receive. We had one child fall out of the bed and cut his head open and the housekeeping staff were great about it - we had requested the sofabed to made up for him.

Restaurants - Privledge breakfast & lounge - so worth it, great drinks, great service and computers were working the whole time were there. Japanese - loved it, ate there twice. Italian - fair. Mexican - 3 out of our 4 liked it - my mistake for going too spicy. Main buffet - looked good we did one breakfast/lunch there however we are not buffet fans. It was really loud, etc in there. Villa Marina? huge disappointment. No kids menu, we ordered a honey mustard grilled chicken for our son and requested the sauce exluded. It was my birthday dinner and we went with the freebie lobster tails...90 minutes later we finally get our meals and the chicken is covered in the honey/mustard. Waiter denied we requested it dry...It was such a disappointment. We chose to just get up and leave as soon as we were done eating. We took the kids to the sports bar as they were in love with the milkshakes there...next thing you know server from Villa Marina is in there for us to sign the lobster acknowledgement...(this had me convinced the place is covered in cameras as how he have known we were there??)
Coffee shop - yes good coffee, nice sandwiches and nice sweets/treats.

Pools were fantastic, so warm and clean. HOWEVER!!!!! first day there, we take the kids to the swim up bar pool and introduce them to the concept of swim up bar and virgin daquiries and milkshake things...They loved it. We decided this was something they should be able to do once/day. 2nd Day? We were sitting at the tables next to the bed loungers while the kids were in the pool getting their drinks. We watched this late 30something who was drunk beyond all belief (it's 2pm) flipping the finger with both hands across the pool, yelling out the f-word and then he gets out of the pool and pulls his shorts all the way down and moons across the pool. I immediately got the kids out of the pool, and husband went to alert Security after we then watched the man VOMIT IN THE POOL FILTER. We then saw they guy's buddy stumble out of pool, go and vomit on the sidewalk outside the buffet restaurant and then proceed to stand in the grass urinating all over himself while his wife held him up. My point is that if the resort just won the 2009 Conde Nast award, it's listed by H10 as a family resort, then these people should have been cut off way earlier, or thrown out of the hotel upon the vomit/urine display. I also think the pool should have been drained but that's me. This was not a Hedonism or Adults Only resort and I shouldn't have been uncomfortable with my kids in that pool at 2pm in July!

We also did the VIP breakfast which was fine - not pushy time share presentation and the $100 was worth two hours of our time...they serve very very strong cocktails!

Spa - very nice. We did a 2 for 1 after sun facial and were charged for that however when the ladies took us upstairs we were really confused when they told us to get undressed and lay on the tables...but we just went with it...we didn't get facials, we got the full body after sun treatments! That was exciting. Yes I would return to this resort if the rates were this good. Yes I would look at the H10 in Dom Republic if I was going there. My kids loved it, it was a great relaxing week and we still managed to come home 5lbs heavier so the food really isn't bad!

We booked our stay for 7 days and airport transfers through Bookit.com. We booked Privilege service b/c we had read the reviews and didn’t want to chance it at our first All-Inclusive. We did NOT ‘email Paulo’ and we got everything we booked….a Privilege Master Suite Ocean Front.

H10 VIP TOUR- The “special breakfast” tour to buy “STUDIOS” (Timeshares). My spouse still wanted to do it because the paid us $100 cash to go. We already knew the whole game since I had read about it on the reviews and my spouse still got talked into signing up for the program. Maybe it was all the alcohol they were throwing at us. To make a long horrifying story short….Luke played his game of hypotheticals over and over and my spouse ended up having a change of heart. The contract states that they will give a full refund of deposit. Luke lied saying we couldn’t get any deposit back ($$ thousands $$) and my spouse became enraged they unwillingly refunded our deposit…end of story. Don’t let them lie and say that you cannot get your money back….it states it in the contract. Definitely save yourself some heartburn and just don’t sign up for the tour!!!!!!! They now try to guilt you into it by saying that their boss will get mad at them if they don’t get people to go….can you just “do them a favor” b/c you’ll get a free massage or cash. They are desperate!! Just say NO!
STATUE VENDOR- Do NOT get a mini statue made by the vendor that comes onto the resort! We thought it would be a unique souvenir and their examples were impressive so we ordered a statue. Yeah right…..we got the statue back (they left it at reception) and it did NOT look like us at all, and to top it off…. it wouldn’t even stand up straight on the table b/c the base isn’t level. What a feakin’ waste!!!! It felt like right and left someone was always trying to take advantage of you there…..ESPECIALLY because the swine flu controversy had devastated their economy.

MEXICAN FOOD- Wasn’t good. They would go around popping loud balloons while trying to make everyone do shots. They would put a gross communal fake mustache, wig, and hat on everyone to take a picture with….who knows how many people’s bacteria was on those things. Nasty! We just didn’t want to be bothered during meals.

INTERNET- The internet in the VIP lounge wasn’t working for 4 of the 7 days we were there and there were only 2 computers so everyone is always waiting and glaring at you to use it. Bring an old laptop you don’t care about, or your laptop and keep it in your room safe so you can go online whenever you want….no waiting, no fees.

AIRPORT TRANSFER: Booked it at the same time as resort through Bookit.com and the voucher was with BEST DAY TRAVEL.
SUITE: We really enjoyed our suite…felt like our beach house. We were on the 2nd floor in Bldg. 21. The suite included a wrap around deck with chaise lounges and another set of bistro style chairs for drinks. It had 2 bathrooms, a separate living area, 2 flat screen TVs, 3 sitting areas, king size bed…..etc. There was a set of privilege towels, slippers, and robes on the bed with “towel art”. Our fridge was fully stocked and was ICE COLD (can you believe it?) with liquor, champagne, and sodas/snacks. When we arrived…a dehumidifier, chocolate covered strawberries, and a plate of fruit on the dining table greeted us. We took advantage of our pillow menu, nice touch. Our shower door had no leaking because bottom threshold was updated. Room wasn’t humid because of dehumidifier, which was working because we would empty it everyday AND the maid would empty it a second time as well. The bed was very comfortable and our linens were of high quality. We also took FULL advantage of having breakfast in bed every morning (since it was part of Privilege) it had chocolate syrup pancakes, pastries, toast, eggs, sausage/bacon, coffee, juice, milk, hash browns, and fresh fruit on time every morning.

RESTAURANTS: We got Privilege reservations at all the themed restaurants. For all-inclusive resort food we would recommend…. JAPANESE - Nice, great entertainment and good food. ITALIAN - Food was awesome (try the steak entree) and the service was on point. CREPERIE- Top service and remarkable food (try the coffee that they set on ‘Fire’). MIKE’S COFFEE- we liked stopping in there to get deli sandwiches, pastries, desserts, and drinks. PRIVILEGE LOUNGE- excellent service, strong alcohol, good appetizers, and pleasant atmosphere. SPORTS BAR- strong alcohol, tasty looking milkshakes, and good burgers/bar food.
BEACH & OCEAN: The beach was incredible because of the umbrellas (palapas), clear water, and white sand…just was we envisioned. We booked this resort partly because of what the beach looked like. We are beach people, California natives….so the sound of the waves were amazing (especially at sunrise/sunset on our balcony).

EXCURSIONS: We did an all day private tour with EDVENTURETOURS.COM. It was relaxing and fun since they take you to the local spots without all the crowds. We went to Tulum, Zip Lining (would have been more fun with more people), Canoeing, Snorkeling, and to the Underground River Cave. We had read of this tour on here and we’re happy we tried it….book directly and save a ton of money, they over price everything at the resort. We also did the SEA PASSION catamaran booze cruise, loved it! It included open bar, snorkeling, buffet lunch on Isla Mujeres, parasailing, shopping, and a day of sun on their boat. The views were amazing and the ocean was SO stunning on the open sea and at Isla Mujeres. HIGHLY RECOMMEND both but definitely the Sea Passion booze cruise….we had the “Genie” something boat and crew (they were great & FUN).

My husband, 2 children, and 2 brother-in-laws and I returned Saturday the 18th from a 1 week trip to OC&T. All and all a wonderful experience! Our only disapointment was the beach. The seaweed was too overwhelming to enjoy the muggy green water. The sand was nice and smooth. Ok to play and lay out in the sand, but the water was definitely unwelcoming. We arrived 7/11 and our room was ready. The moldy musty smell was a little unpleasant but we soon got used to it. The rooms were clean, cool, and spacious. Water and soda was replenished daily. The grounds and pools were absolutly beautiful and well maintained. The food was decent. Buffets and snack bars good. Asian, sports bar, and mexican were all tasty. The Italian was not pleasing for majority of our group. The drinks were cool and not watered down as I previously read in another review. The shows were pretty cheesey so we only watched one. The nightly entertainment was good. There was always something going on in the evenings but only until about midnight. I wouldn't recomend this resort for anyone seeking a full nightlife but it was good for a family with children. The location was a little further than we are used to. Either plan on a very long walk to the main road or extra money for cab fair. The Worry Free guys in the lobby to the right were down right pushy, unfriendly, and unknowledged. We were told to come back 3 times by a man named Jose Luis our travel vouchers for a pre purchsed cruise. He finally gave us our vouchers but forgot to book our transportation causing us to be late for our dinner cruise!! Another Worry Free guy named Mario was also very rude! I have a huge money saving tip for everyone out there: When you go on your free shopping trip to Cancun book your excursions through Cancun and Isla Mujeras travel. It's located in the Cancun mall which was the 2nd stop. Our family of 6 saved over $200 for our Xcaret trip! Plus we didn't have to deal with those rude Worry Free guys :)

Let's start w/ the beautiful architectural layout of the resort, the impeccable service, and the wonderful food. Some people gripped about the location, but it depends on what you're looking for. The hotel offered FREE shuttle services to downtown Cancun for shoppers, like myself. The big perk for me: FREE Tequila shots! One of the stores let you sample various types of Tequila, from Pomegranate to Tequila w/ cream- YUM! Sorry, back to the resort review...LOL.
If you're looking for a resort where relaxation is key, and interests include: enjoying jacuzzi-like swimming pools, offers great service, including room, bar & concierge service, then this is the place for you!!
If you're looking for a "party atmosphere," then you probably need to find another resort. This was the perfect place to unwind, and if you need to leave the resort, there are numerous tours/excursions to sign up for.
I don't know what part of the beach some reviewers were on; however, I have pictures to confirm how scenic the water was- various shades of blue, it was beautiful. We found a spot on the beach away from the "family scene," where we could drink freely, listen to our Ipods, dance in our lounge chairs, and enjoy life! Viva Mexico!

Ocean Turquesa is indeed a beautiful, well-maintained resort, but the beach area may be somewhat disappointing for travelers expecting turquoise waters as the name suggests.
The beach is great for walking, but not necessarily for swimming. There is a lot of seaweed, seagrass in the beach area, which would explain why the water looks more like a muddy green than turquoise. There is a protected turtles' nest area on the resort beach, and we actually saw resort personnel dig out the hatchlings and release over a hundred baby turtles into the ocean one evening. While this experience was indeed a highlight, I couldn't help feeling that we were intruding on mother nature....
This resort is situated in Puerto Morelos, and you can actually walk all the way to the town centre along the beach. Walk towards the right from the beach. You will pass a few other resorts, and condos/beach houses and notice clearer waters as you get closer the the town centre.
- Come prepared with US$ singles or MXN$10-20 for tipping
- The resort exchange rates are not that great - US$1=MXN$12 or CDN$1=MXN$10. Rates will be better at bank branches in Cancun where US$1=MXN$13.50, or check the rates at your local foreign exchange dealer or bank before you leave for your vacation using the above as reference. US$ are used interchangeably with the MXN$ in the Cancun and Mayan Riviera area.
