“Great for Families!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2014

I am a teenage girl who visited with my large extended family. There was always an activity going on at one of the pools for the kids and lots of drinks for the adults! The activities staff were great during the day and in the shows at night.
Would recommend to anyone!

Just returned from 1 week at OC. Family reunion of almost 40, 29 traveling together from LAX. Transfer to hotel and check-in was smooth. My travel agent had requested an upgrade for my room as a courtesy for bringing a large group. Unfortunately, that request was not honored.

Meals- Our travel agent had confirmed 2 buffet dinners for us where we would all be able to sit in the same area. Unfortunately, the day we arrived, the "captain" that evening didn't know about the arrangements, but was able to accomodate our group since it was early evening. Mike's was great for coffee and a quick sandwich. The buffet was good for all of us. A few of our group tried the Japanese restaurant and the reviews were mixed. I tried to request room service on one evening and no one answered the call after multiple calls.
Some of our group were invited to the Chef's dinner. At first, I thought there was a "catch" to the exclusive invitation. It was an intimate 4 course meal with an interesting tour of the main resort kitchen. We were dressed in chef attire and treated like royalty. A big thanks to Chef Alan for the fabulous dinner and great experience.

Pools/beach- Concur with other reviews, pools nice and clean. No problem with chair or cabana availability. We didn't mind sea grass. The towel card game was a drag. Many of us took our own towels to avoid the dreaded threat of paying $30 if we didn't return one of theirs.

Tours- We did the snorkeling tour offered by the hotel. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a short boat ride and awesome experience. We also booked a tour to Isla Mujeres which included snorkeling, buffet lunch on another part of the island, and a short stop in downtown. When we arrived at the point of departure, they separated our group based on the boats that were heading out. We insisted on being on the same boat and it took a while until they figured it out and eventually we had a great catamaran and tour guide. We also went to Chichen Itza and visited a cenote.

We booked through an "unofficial" tour operator that has an "office" under a white umbrella on the beach. The cost of the trips were much less that what the hotel tour operators offered us, so we took the risk. We are not too picky and are used to the accomodations that may be made with a discounted price. The lower price came with traveling in vans versus a comfortable tour bus and some confusion at the start of the tours. I would probably NOT recommend the beach tour vendors if this is your first time in cancun and you do not speak the language. It worked for our family, but we definitely had to be flexible, open-minded, and very assertive.
Unfortunately, many of our group got "slack" from the Apple Vacation reps for not taking the tours with them. I also got a call in my room questioning me as to why we had not booked with them and that they count on a commission also. Definitely not professional at all!

Nightlife- The nightly shows are an option. However, the theatre was hot and stuffy and we only attended one. The young adults of our group had a blast with the nightly DJ by the pool bar. I also applaud the security staff for monitoring the area and making sure that everyone was safe. I specifically witnessed security personnel asking a very drunk young lady if she knew the 2 young men that were trying to escort her. Really appreciated this.
It was evident that there were some management issues. Myself and another family member attempted to e-mail the hotel with some questions and the first response took several weeks and another e-mail was never answered. Another family member that booked her stay online had a horrible experience with the front staff and main manager. Additionally, I observed a few other guests concerned about not having their reservations honored.

In general, I have experienced more personal and professional attention at other smaller resorts in Cancun. However, the OC has more activities and some nightlife for the younger crowd. I would recommend the resort for families. I would probably not return due to the better customer service I have experienced at other all-inclusives.

We just returned from a wonderful week at Ocean Coral and Turquesa. As time share owners, we stayed in the privilege section and felt is was well worth it. We were able to make reservations for dinner and received superb attention in the privilege lounge for breakfast. Some of our favorite staff members were Luis, Vanessa, Sergio, Angel, Miguel, Alonso and Blanca. Each of them went out of their way to make sure every aspect of our vacation was completely fabulous. We were a group of eight including a 2 month old baby and our every need was met. The staff was sure to remember every detail including all our names, preference for food and drink and even our favorite spot to sit on the beach. I would highly recommend this resort.

Dear jgonsalves1,
We want to express our gratitude for taking the time to share your opinion about our resort. It is rewarding to learn that you enjoyed our facilities, offer and friendliness of our staff. On the other side, we regret that the behavior and attitude of some of our guests made you feel uncomfortable. Please let us enlighten that in case that a guest does not respect the norms of our resort, our security staff will be ready to ensure the good atmosphere and interaction between our guests. Furthermore, we are glad to learn that this does not mean an impediment for you to have an awesome time at OCT. We hope that when returning to Riviera Maya, you will give us the opportunity to welcome you once again in our property.
Bests,

If you vacation at the Ocean Coral and Turquesa make sure to visit the Route 66 Diner and ask for Alberto. My grand kids loved eating there! The staff is very friendly and the food is pretty good! They planned a birthday celebration for us--it was excellent! The entire staff was friendly and super nice to the kids!!

This all-inclusive is actually a solid 3.5, not a four. That being said, if you have read any of my past reviews, we have been fortunate enough to stay at some amazing hotels (usually on business trips) so my expectations are probably unrealistically high. We traveled with two other families (17 total) in late June, lots of kids, but all were teenagers and young adults. Let's start with the rooms. Good sized, however the furnishings were poor quality. Large closet however, no drawers to put clothes in. I had to put my things in the nightstand which was two shelfs. Fridge in the room was stocked with water, and soda daily but there was no consistency in what you might find there. Some days several sodas, and waters, the next day, no soda and a couple random beers. The A/C worked very well, (always a bonus in Mexico) and there was a ceiling fan as well, which we like. It was odd however, that there were no controls on the fan and it went one speed, which we labeled "turbine." It was so fast that it blew my hair when trying to sleep. Then it would spontaneously shut off for a 10-15 minutes then switch back on. Of course, the bed was too hard for me, but thankfully not so hard that I was miserable by the end of the week. Shower/bath were nice size, tons of hot water.
We spent most of our time at the pool closest to our rooms. There were daily activities, all family friendly and fun to watch. Kids spent time playing beach volleyball, soccer and lying in hammocks. It was World Cup playoffs and the hotel accommodated with games broadcast in the Theatre. It was large projection TV that was not the hi-def we are accustomed to but is typical for Mexico. Pool bar was always busy, drinks of every color. Ice always seem to be at a premium, especially in the heat.
Restaurants-Sensai was the group favorite. We ate hibachi style twice during the week. Daily trips to the Casa del Mar buffet for breakfast and lunch were getting old by the end of the week, however the food was always fresh and there was seldom a wait for a table. Mike's coffee was very popular, but I found that I could get a latte at the lobby bar of equal quality without the line. It was a little disappointing that neither place opened early. A couple days we were up walking by 7 or 7:30 and couldn't get coffee until 8:30 in the lobby or 9:00 at Mike's. Villa Marina also had a lunch buffet that we visited, not as much variety as the Casa buffet. One of the families that we traveled with went there for dinner and had an amazing lobster dinner, which was not on the "inclusive" menu. Others in the group left because the insects were devouring them. We missed going tot he Creperie for dinner but lunch there was a mini-buffet that was quite good. Route 66 was terrible. The only place where the food and service were awful. Each family visited there on different days and all were left without finishing their meals. The Hacienda was good as well. We traveled off property twice to have dinners which was a much-needed change in routine.
Beach-we didn't spend any time on the beach other than morning walks and sailing. It was groomed each day, however there was a lot of sea moss on the beach and in the water. I understand that the close proximity of the reef effects this and the water was not as clear and blue as other places we've stayed.
Service- The staff was always very friendly and accommodating. We called housekeeping the first night because we couldn't get the sofa-bed out of the couch! They were very responsive, and made up the bed within a few minutes. Room service was timely with same quality as the restaurants.
Entertainment-The older kids stayed up nightly hanging out at the pool listening to music, partying with their new friends. Staff was always around encouraging people to dance and have fun.

It was a great week with our friends. I would recommend this resort as a good value. I think that 5 days would have been enough for us as we tired of the food quickly. That being said, the all-
inclusive format was essential for our large group, who often ate in shifts. I don't image that we will travel back to this resort as there are just too many others to choose from in the area and we like trying new places.

Room Tip: "Privlidge" Rooms are on the quiet side of the hotel and have a bathtub.

We went to Ocean Coral for the first week of our honeymoon to relax. It was awesome. Check in was easy, the room was lovely, nice and big with two double beds (which we put together to create a huge bed).

The resort is large but never feels over crowded as there are 4 pools. The Staff were very welcoming and hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble. The servers around the pool were excellent, often bringing us a repeat drink without us asking. Tipping isnt essential but when they are doing such a good job i just think they deserve it.

The staff in the restaurants were also brilliant. The main buffet was food was great, it was nice just to be able to get what you want.

We also went to 3 of the restaurants for food and the quality was exceptional. The 60's diner was great and the blue moon restaurant.

Please go to Sensai or you'll miss out. You have to queue up on the day you want to eat there at 5:40 to reserve a seat but its worth it. Great fun sitting round the grill.

Met some wonderful people there as well, a very friendly place. The beach is gorgeous and so nice to just get a sun lounger and the servers also come to the beach as well

Would definitely recommend this resort to anyone.

Regarding Mexican Departure Tax. If you travel back to England with Thomas Cook or Thomson you have to pay £45 Departure Tax for which they only take Peso or Pounds NOT Dollars. However we were flying to Vegas via Mexico City and did not have to pay the tax.

Apparently its included in the fare to USA but not UK

Room Tip: We had a room in Block 4 which was a way from the pools but very quiet of an evening which i like
