“Wonderful Trip to Ocean Coral”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

My husband and I travel to OCT in May 2014. The hotel is very well appointed and laid out nicely along the beach. We were on the third floor, the rooms are nice size and kept very clean. We had no issues with our room. The atmosphere at the hotel was really nice and the servers made our vacation more enjoyable (especially Gabrelle Castillo and Teresa). There are 4 swimming pools and all laid out simply within the hotel, nothing seemed too far away. The swim up bar was very busy and they worked hard to keep up with the crowd. I noticed one of the supervisors jumping in to help during peak times :)

There were alot of really nice sitting areas at the hotel. So many unique chairs to just sit and take it in. Very well decorated. Familys or groups would gather in the evening to play cards, have cocktails, etc. They also had activity by the pool every evening whether it was a DJ or live music. This is smart IMO as people like to be pool side and it drew a big crowd, you could sit and watch by the pool or jump in and start dancing. Many hotels that i have stayed at close down the ocean/poolside bars to navigate the crowd which I have found to be a negative experience. People come to the ocean to be outdoors and near water! Which reminds me, the theatre being indoors was too hot. Either make it open air or provide air conditioning.

I considered this hotel to have a lot of extra "special" touches which I appreciated. A fruit smoothy bar by the pool all day, a chocolate bar and fountain one night that was amazing, so many choices. Appetizers by the pool/ocean one evening which was awesome as I prefer to have a little something to eat during evening cocktails then have dinner later. My only comment would be to have these events more frequently than once a week.

The food at this hotel was amazing!!! We usually ate after 7 pm and never had much of a wait to get a table. of course there was only 2 of us which probably helped. The Mexican restaurant, Italian, romantic adult only restaurant, Japanese and Marina restaurant were all excellent in taste and quality. The buffet and diner were ok. At several of the restaurants, I had steak prepared the way that I like it (med rare) without it being in sauce (which is what you normally get at AI hotels). We have stayed at many AI and paid more for such high quality restaurants. My only complaint would be that we did not get invited to the private chef dinner. Folks that we met while there did get invited and said that it was amazing to see how the kitchens are ran and how clean they are. Kudos to the chef!!! (I dont know his name since I didnt get to meet him :)).

The ocean... the beach is nice but the ocean is not clear. We knew this going in to it. We did walk the beach to Puerto Morelos one day then took a taxi back. It was about a 1 hour walk down the shore. There were some other hotels and houses to view while walking. The ocean had spots of that pretty green. When we reached Puerto Morelos, we went to a restaurant with an ocean view to have a cervasa and some fresh shrimp. It was good. We then went shopping and walking, during our walk we met a man from New York who had been living in PM as a snow bird for 17 years. He loved the town and felt very safe there. Meanwhile a lady from Colorado came up on her bike. They knew each other and she had a home there as well. They both loved the town and felt very safe. We shopped for a couple more hours then went to another restaurant with an ocean view for more cervasa & shrimp.

I would have liked to go to Playa Del Carmen but i wasnt willing to spend $90 for transportation. It would be nice if the hotel would provide "free" transportation to Playa a few days a week.

All in all, it was a great trip. We met some wonderful friends who have actually already booked to come back next year and have invited us to join.

Room Tip: We were on third floor by swim up bar pool. No problems except we couldnt see the ocean for the pal...

We stayed at the Ocean Coral from 5/23 to 6/1 and had an amazing time.

The taxi ride from Cancun airport was only 17 min, it only took about 10 min to check in and we were ready to go.

The rooms are very nice most with a nice view of the ocean.

The property is super easy to get around and is always very very clean, there is some seaweed on the beach but they do their best to keep it clean and the ocean floor is like velvet. You can walk down the beach to Puerto Morelos (neat town) in about 45 min (you do have to walk by the resort Desire and everyone there is nude just so you know)

The spa was great we had a couple’s message and it was fantastic, cost about $180 for 2 for an hour not bad.

The restaurants are very good for the most part, Route 66 could use a heat lamp for the food and the Italian restaurant is not really worth the wait. The buffet always has a good selection and different every day. The Japanese restaurant is fun but very busy make a reservation at 5pm out front or you will not get in. the best for us was the Mexican restaurant we went 3 times fantastic service.

The entrainment was standard resort style not bad but the theatre is very warm inside.

We like to have a few beverages on vacation so here is the story about that. The house white wine and champagne is undrinkable, the red wine not too bad, for beer they only have Corona and no light beer of any kind and if they run out of Corona you get Modelo (yuck). But the bartenders are great and if you like mixed drinks they do a great job and have many good spirits to choose from.

We had a wonderful time and would go back for sure. Enjoy

Room Tip: Most rooms a good

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

We stayed at Ocean Coral and Turquesa for 6 days in late June and had a wonderful time! We arrived at 11a.m., not expecting the room to be ready (and it wasn’t) we had packed our swimsuits separately. We changed, had lunch and sat at the pool until 4:30. When we returned to the desk to grab the key there was a huge line, over 50 minutes though only a few people ahead of us. Not sure what the hold up was but it took forever (but had a cocktail in hand so the wait could have been worse), I could have left and come back but we were excited to check out the room.
We are not picky people so take that into consideration when reading my review. I spend a long time looking for value for our vacation money and felt that we got a good deal with O.C.T. We don’t look for problems and tend to shrug off annoyances but I know what doesn’t bother me might ruin someone else's vacation.
The room was large with a sitting area which included a table with 2 chairs and a pull out sofa. There is also a coffee maker and small fridge in the room. We had two double beds which I thought were comfortable, we slept like rocks. There was a view from the deck but not the room which was fine as we prefer to sit outside. Plenty of storage-probably the biggest, best laid out closet we’ve seen at a resort. Definitely damp but we didn’t bother asking for a dehumidifier. The AC worked great when it was on but I like to have the slider open (which we could do-no bugs!) so we didn’t use the AC much. I love listening to the surf, the kids, the birds etc. Our clothes did smell musty when we returned home but I didn’t really notice it when we were there.
We went to all the specialty restaurants and liked them all for different reasons. We loved the food in the Los Girasoles, Ritratto d’Italia (they make your food table-side) and the Blue Moon. We liked the experience at the hibachi and the food was great. I loved sitting outside at the Villa Marina and at La Creperie. We did the buffet for both breakfast and lunch and could always find something we enjoyed. Though our kids weren’t with us this trip there was plenty they would have liked-pasta bar, pizza, burgers, lunch meat, salad and fruit. I even saw chicken fingers a few times.
The reservation system for the specialty restaurants was a pain but we got in on the nights we wanted and didn’t care what time they gave us. The longest line was for the Italian-they have two seatings 6:00 and 7:30 but you have to stand in line at 6 either dressed for dinner or be prepared to wait until the 6:00 fills up and then they will take your name and give you a buzzer for 7:30. I stood in line for 45 minutes but (again) I had a cocktail and ended up talking to a lot of nice people. Plus the food and service was worth it. I think if the kids were with us the reservation protocol would have been the biggest PITA but with just us it was no big deal.
We stood in line for the hibatchi at 5:45-not wanting the 6pm seating as I was still in pool attire but was open to either the 7:30 or 9:00 seating and we got into the 7:30 no problem. We got right in to Blue Moon, Creperie and Villa Marina with no wait between 7-8 and had a short 10 minute wait for Girasoles around the same time.
One of the biggest pluses for us was no towel game at the beach and pool. We could always find a spot even the first day we arrived we hit the pool at noon and got two spots together. Yes, there are people who put their towels down early but there were plenty of chairs though the ones under umbrellas were taken first. The last resort we stayed at we had to set our alarms for 6am to go reserve a seat or you couldn’t find one at all after breakfast.
I think our kids would have enjoyed this resort. There were tons of activities to choose from and the staff was very engaging. There were two ping pong tables, a net to juggle the soccer ball over, the pool volleyball net was up 50% of the day and more organized activities (ie. Beach volleyball, beach football, cooking classes, pool volleyball, silly pool games etc).
The best part of the resort was the staff. From the maid to the waiters to the maintenance guys to the hostesses to the entertainment staff-everyone goes out of their way to say “hola”. We had a great time with Denise (the best!), Ivan , Marion, Julio, Candy and Sexy Chocolate.
Look into the bike tour in the mornings- 2 ½ hours long but you bike into town and can go shopping or have breakfast. The Sensory tour (which isn’t listed, Candy told us about it) is on Sunday morning and was fun-like nothing we’ve ever done before (Thanks Ivan and Marion!)
You can’t get premium liquor unless you are Privilege-if that’s a big deal then pay for Privilege. We didn’t bother with Privilege and didn’t feel as we missed out on anything. This is a family resort, kids are everywhere, so if you don’t want to get splashed then you might want to look into an adults’ only resort (or not sit by the stairs where the kids congregate). I was happy to hear the kids have a blast, it’s their vacation too! We didn’t have faceclothes in the shower one day-I used a hand towel-no big deal.
We don’t usually go to the same resort twice because we like to try new places but we would definitely return. We really had an excellent time. Thanks everyone!
Our standard recommendations: Insulated cups for drinks at the beach/pool
Insulated coffee cups to bring coffee back to the room
$1 bills for tipping (dollars seem OK vs pesos)
Beach bag
Lots of sunscreen

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

Stayed at the place from 10th to 14th of July, 2014 as a group of 9 friends. Check in was considerably easier than at most all inclusive resorts. The rooms were what you would expect from a 4 star, clean and offering reasonable amenities. The best part was the service, even though there were a limited # of bars, the resort is adequately staffed with friendly and helpful workers. Mario at the pool bar deserves a special mention since he went out of the way to make everyone's stay even better. While I can't really think of negatives, one or two additional bars might make this place even better. Would still recommend the place!

After visiting other "ALL-INCLUSIVE" Hotels in Cancun or Cabos this Resort needs a lot more...
to begin with, an ALL INCLUSIVE Resort should be that 'ALL INCLUSIVE" for everything and everybody, This is the first time I arrived to an all inclusive hotel and found out that if you want better amenities, better service, better views, better beach side, you need to pay $60 per day extra...
now lets talk about the all inclusive, Yes that is right that the food is great and the place is beautiful BUT... the have 4-5 "UPSCALE" restaurants, you MUST make a reservation if not you can not eat there, on one or two restaurant the limit is 24-30 people only, and on one restaurant children are not allowed... ok so now you are in one of the UPSCALE restaurants and found out that if you want to eat the best or better dish and a nice wine you need to PAY EXTRA, so you can only eat any plate from certain selection in the menu and drink the house wine because that is the "ALL INCLUSIVE" menu...
Yes they have the classical big buffet restaurant, the burgers, nachos and hot dogs all day but that is normal in an all inclusive resort...
Now my BIG frustrations were the drinks.... my wife loves a good margarita so the first time I approach the bar I was happy to see they have our favorite Tequila and Scotch on Display.....
so I told the bartender to give me a margarita with Tequila Cuervo Special & Grand Marnier and for me a Buchannan with Soda... SURPRISE ... the bartender told me that this drinks are NOT part of the ALL-INCLUSIVE menu,so if I want this drinks I need it to pay for it ....So I told him to give me whatever was included in my "ALL INCLUSIVE" Package so he served this CHEAP scotch and tequila that it was not even a name brand, it was something REALLY cheap so from that time on it was very disappointed to drink cheap alcohol ....
Another HUGE disappointment was the Beach, this is my first (and last) time I stayed in the Riviera Maya Corridor thinking that all the beaches were going to be clear, sparkle, blue and beautiful like in Cancun...
but NO this one was FULL of vegetation, not clear much less Blue, the worst is that every 3-4 hours there is a Tractor that passes by, clean and pickup the vegetation so every time he passes, you need to smell the strong smoke gas ...

FINALLY THE NUMBER ONE REASON I WONT COME BACK TO THIS RESORT... I got three kids, one night my 12 year old decide to go the room on his own because he was tired, to our surprise 20 minutes later my son came back with another couple, I will always appreciated what this couple did for my son.... They found my son PETRIFIED AND frightened because he encounter on the stairs and hallway a BIG Raccoon ...since then we had to go always together to our room, we were not going to take the risk or found out that this animals can attack with no reason, the security guards told us that they were calm BUT we were not going to risk it....
ANYWAY... overall, service is good, food is good, facilities are ok, we had a good time but there are better options....

Room Tip: if you don't mind to walk that is fine otherwise make sure to ask for a room near the main swimm...

Dear Elpasotravel,
We want to express our gratitude for choosing our resort for your vacations and for taking the time to post your review at this site. It is with regret that we learn you did not get the Ocean Service we are used to give to all our valued guests and that our Privilege package made you feel uncomfortable. Please allow us to inform that our Privilege concept was created for those types of guests that like to have a little extra pamper; nevertheless if the guests decide not to contract this package, they will still receive the same level of service and treatment from a resort of our category, we lament if you perceived different. In regard to the extra charges at restaurants, we must inform that we have certain products in our restaurant offer that are not included in the All Inclusive Programs and have an extra charge, which are clearly identified in the menus, and is the customer's decision to order them or not. Regarding your comment about the beach, we also like to inform that enlighten that the beach situation and the color of the water are a consequence of our geographical location, as a big amount of seaweed is accumulated at our beach, which is located in front of the second largest coral reef barrier in the world. However, it is good to know that this did not mean an impediment for you to enjoy your vacations. Lastly, we must enlighten that our resort is located in an eco-protected zone surrounded by a mangrove; therefore, part of the natural wildlife of this ecosystem may appear within our facilities. This wildlife does not represent a risk to our guests, and we also like you to remember that we are located in their natural habitat. We are glad to learn that overall you had a nice stay at our resort and you appreciated our food offer, services and facilities. We hope that you keep choosing the Mayan Riviera as your vacation destination, and that you give us the opportunity to host you once again in the future.
Kind regards,

Our family vactioned here from 7/12-7/22. We had a party of 7 (4 adults and 3 teenagers). I have to admit I was a ittle worried after reading some of the reviews. However, everything was spectacular! Our check in went smoothly, the room was nice and very clean. The view from our balconly was AMAZING. We stayed in room 12402, and had one of the best views! We had requested rooms side by side before we arrived, and they were able to accomodate.

The hotel itself and the grounds are beautiful. We loved sitting on the beach under an umbrella. We had no problem finding an open spot to sit. The main pool was crowded, if we wanted to sit pool side we would have to send someone down to reserve chairs by 9:00 am.

The food was good. We were never turned away, and didn't have to make reservations. We enjoyed every meal.

The service and staff are outstanding. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly. They work very hard, and bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. We loved Blanca and Gabriella (who served drinks down on the beach).

Our teenagers loved every minute as well. They were busy ALL day with the activities in the main pool.

We would return to this beautful resort and would not hesitate to tell family and friends to check it out!
