We went to the Barley Sheaf for our Sunday lunch and thought it was good value at just £8.95 for two courses.
The pub had a pleasant atmosphere, and plenty of character. There was also a games room with pool and table football which would keep children (and teenagers!) amused for hours.
I had a roast beef dinner, the meat was locally sourced and well cooked. The rest of main course, veggies and a yorkshire pudding was average, and the gravy was too thick and gloopy. I had a creme brulee for desert which was a bit bland, but did the job.
It was great to have local ingredients in this price bracket and the standard was slightly above what I would expect for the price, but certainly nothing spectacular.
The staff were friendly and helpful, but sadly our food did take a long time to come, especially the desert. The pub wasn't especially busy, so there didn't seem to be any good reason for the delay.
If you are looking for good value local food in a friendly pub then I would recommend the Barley Sheaf.
