“Unforgettable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013 via mobile

Last minute decision as we arrived in Porto and wanted to visit Duoro region. all other reviews were correct on how great a place this was. We were only couple there in this off season time and was treated by Pablo , Maria, and Artur as if we were celebrities or dignitaries. the place makes their own wine and serves dinner, lunch and breakfast. Breakfast was included which was wonderful. the most memorable part of the trip was the dinner prepared privately for us as they set up a table directly in front of the fireplace . We felt very honored and special for all of the attention given to us.

the rooms were very large, clean with a phenomenal view of the valley, with all the comforts of home. there were more like a kings suite than a room. Cannot say anything negative at all.Only thing to be aware of it is on top of a mountain and have a good solid car especially if its raining. A little nervous in driving but the road protection is fine just dealing with the steepness and narrowness of the roads only for the last 10-20 Minutes of the trip.

If you have a chance to stay there you won't be sorry. It is a great place to stay while visiting the Duoro region

Casa Cimeira was a great choice for our one night stay: good location in the most beautiful part of Douro Valley, excelent value for price, and most of all, very good and friendly hosts.
Thank you for your wonderful homemade Port Wine!;)

We had 2 absolutely fantastic days and evenings at Casa Cimeira - thanks to the wonderful care and dedication of the couple running the place - Maria and her husband.
As most other reviewers already said - they don't speak much English - we spoke 3 words of Portuguese - but there were never any communication issues - thanks to their hospitality, friendliness and warm welcome.
Our stay felt like a totally relaxing holiday with friends - Maria cooks magnificently - you get plied with cakes in all shapes and flavours, at dinner and breakfast, as others have said - wine and aguardente flows plentiful - and is of dangerously good quality.
And rooms are super comfortable - in a superb part of the house - tastefully decorated and very large - we had the room overlooking the inner courtyard.

We really did wish we had booked a much longer stay.

This place was the highlight of our group's (2 couples) trip to Portugal! Upon arrival, we were given tastings of port wine and after dinner we hung out in the cellar with one of the hosts drinking wine late into the night and learning about the region.

Atmosphere: It's located in a small village of 350 people high on a hill among the vineyards. The view is incredible! The house area is very quiet & relaxing. Since there are only 7 guest rooms, we often felt like we had the place to ourselves. It's not touristy by any standards.

Rooms: Renovated & classy - easily the nicest place we stayed in our 2 weeks in Portugal. The beds were comfortable & everything was very clean.

Service: Incredible. Personable. We were never billed for the loads of port and wine we consumed. When one of our guests asked where to buy a beer & bottled water, she led him to a fridge and told him to help himself. We were also given great recommendations on what to do while we were in the area.

Tip: We had trouble finding this using the host's directions & couldn't locate the address in our GPS. Fortunately, it was easy to ask for directions from local individuals once we got to the area. Be sure to map the directions out yourself and use the hosts' directions as a guide.

Best picture spot: On your way up the mountain from highway 222, you'll see an old concrete building on your left on one of the bends. Climb the stairs on the side to the roof for the most amazing view of the vineyards & river.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are renovated and decorated very nicely! We got to choose our room when we arrived...

We found the place by browsing the net for a place to spend one night in the Alto Douro region. We definitely got lucky to stumble into Casa Cimeira. You need the car to get to Valenca do Douro, and there is not much there to be seen, but Casa Cimeira is worth the effort. The old building is perfectly kept, and the newer parts have been remodeled with taste. You would not expect to see the living room as it is, from the outside, with the stone walls and the big wine barrel that hosts the bar. The cellar is perfect for enjoying a glass of porto, produced as the other wines you will taste by the owners. There is a nice swimming pools, and dinner is served in the garden under the trees. The room was in fact a small apartment, with plenty of space and privacy. Breakfast table in the morning was a sight worth the trip! Pablo, the owner, is simply the perfect host. We payed 80 Euros for two people, including breakfast and "light" dinner that, believe me, was more than enough! (and Pablo kept opening bottles of his excellent wine, ask him to taste the Odysseia white wine ...). Be careful if you drive there, the narrow streets of the village were a challenge even for my rented Toyota Yaris, ask pablo for the best way to go if you have bigger cars.

Casa Cimeira is a great home base for a tour of the Alta Douro, a fine winemaking region. Our host Paolo (who speaks excellent English) is very knowledgeable about the area and the wine- and port-making processes - no surprise since he makes both on the premises. Every evening included a tasting session with other guest where Paolo shared samples of his work - these were great opportunities to get to know other guests, all remarkably genial people from around the world.

If you're looking for a 5-star SPA-hotel, a place to meet party-people or a fun-for-kids-adventure-hotel, please go somewhere else.

If you however are looking for a relaxing place, still untouched by tourism, with extremely friendly hosts, nice atmosphere, good food, and very good value for money this is the right place for you.

We stayed here for one week with our two daugthers (3 and 5). We had the Suite with two bedrooms which was very nice for a family of four. Both the breakfast and the dinner (always 3 course menu including a very good red wine) was exellent, so we chose to eat at Casa Cimeira every night.

After some days at Casa Cimeira you forget this is supposed to be some kind of hotel, and start to think that you visit old friends. If you need a knife or something, you don't even ask for it - you just walk into the kitchen and find it yourself...

Room Tip: The rooms in the second floor have a better view of the Douro Valley
