“A great night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

The owner is a character! Very warm amd inviting and a jokester!
We were the only tourists and he really made us feel like family.
Food was excellent and very reasonable.
Many locals stopping in for eats and to chat with the owner's family.

“Better Avoid”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

After 10 consecutive visits to Crete having eaten in many restaurants and taverns, this was the first time that the food was so terrible.
Food was undercooked and without taste (for Crete Standards).
Time to eat starters reached 40 min.
People were warm, Service was very slow and Prices were very expensive for the end result.
In a nutshell better avoid!!

“Average food, friendly people”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013 via mobile

We went here after reading some tripadvisor reviews. We were welcomed by the waiter, who was a bit overfriendly for our taste, but better to be overfriendly then not friendly at all. We had garlic bread (very nice, much garlic) as a starter and beef and filet fish as main courses. The main courses were average, the fish was ok, the beef a bit dry and some salad was missing. The price was a bit steep in comparisson with our other dinners in crete, but in return you get a seat right next to the waves of the ocean. Was ok, won't come back though.

“Taverna Nikos is the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

During the fifteen years that have elapsed since I first visited Crete, I have often stopped at Chora Sfakion, usually after negotiating the E4 coastal path, exploring the mountains or enjoying one of the glorious beaches. Since making Crete my home, my visits have been even more frequent.

A Venetian castle, dating from 1526, overlooks the village and harbour; a reminder of the Sfakians' proud history of resistance against oppressors, from Venetians, to Turks, to the 20th Century occupation following the Battle of Crete in 1941. Winston Churchill is quoted as having said that "Hence, we shall not say that Greeks fight like heroes but that heroes fight like Greeks.".

On reaching Chora Sfakion, I invariably head for Taverna Nikos where I can be sure of a warm welcome, a relaxing atmosphere and excellent food. Nikos and Georgia prepare delicious, tradional Cretan home-cooked food and the hospitality of the whole Braoudakis family epitomises φιλοξενιά.

“Quaint dinner for Christmas Eve meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012

We took the drive from the M side of Crete through the gorge and ended up here. So happy we did. We were greeted by one of the sons who spoke English well. Mom, Dad and other brother (I assume) were all there. A warm fire next to our table kept the comfort in the room.

We each ordered a lamb dish but before they arrived a plate of the BEST garlic bread arrived, complimentary. It was so good. But dinner was better. One of us had lamb with onions and other lamb with yogurt. Both came w fresh, homemade fries. The yogurt dish was amazing, the sauce was so tasty. Other dish was excellent too.

Once we ask for bill another complimentary dish was delivered: 2 traditional Christmas Cookies. They were so sweet and the food was fantastic.
