We got married here on Sat 13th October 2012. From the day we booked our wedding, the staff at Mercure have been helpful and accomodating to our needs and the day itself was amazing and went so smoothly mainly down to the staff who were there helping things flow in the background. Nicola and Lisa did an amazing job of putting together all of our plans while staff on the day made sure everything was executed perfectly as it should be.
After lots of searching for our wedding venue, we chose Mercure Hull West. We have family and friends spread throughout the country and so needed (and wanted) a venue which had accommodation space for all of our guests and we always wanted to have the ceremony and reception all under one roof. Mercure offered various different rooms to suit the size of the wedding and also seemed more flexible in their approach than many other places we visited. They also agreed to hold 25 rooms for our wedding party to book their accommodation which is somewhat higher that the usual allocation of 10 at the special "wedding rate" which was much appreciated since we had so many people travelling!
Having opted for a 3 course wedding breakfast this meant that as part of the package, the hotel threw in chair coveres and table centre pieces too. When I enquired about the cost of runners for the tables to match the bows on chairs those too were complimentary and even on the day, Jason (the manager who was looking after us in the morning) suggested adding table mirrors which really set everything off. The room was set out beautifully as a result of attention to detail and the care which was taken by the staff at the hotel.
Due to varying tastes in food between myself and my husband, we asked the hotel if it would be possible to do a menu for people to select from for the wedding breakfast, they agreed to this and subsequently a choice of 3 different starters, main courses and deserts were offered. Many people commented on this aspect as many places will not allow the choices to be made (or so we seemed to find). Upon serving of the food, I was amzed at how organised the waiting staff were, there was no question of what was for who, this had been noted in the kitchen and there was no confusion as to who should be served with what when it was brought to the tables.
Managers were switched around for us at around 4pm and we carried on our night being looked after by Sion who made sure our day continued to flow without a hitch, the evening buffet was also commented on as to how nice the food was and again attention to detail in turning the room around making it once again look like a new and perfect venue for the night time party which was brilliant!
The only slightly negative comment which I have heard was the drink prices at the bar are a little high, however, I think most hotels have this problem, but maybe a cheaper bottle of house wine for guests might be an advisable addition?
The accommodation was very nice in the hotel too. We had the honeymoon suite which consisted of a large room with a four poster bed and all of the trimmings - amazing!!
So, would I recommend Mercure Hull West as a wedding venue? Definitely!!! Beautiful hotel, lovely gardens (which have provided us with some amazing photos) and brilliant staff who really do try and make sure your day is perfect.
