“Well Orchestrated Tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

While we had heard good reports about this tour, our expectations were tempered by the fact that Herradura is part of a large liquor conglomerate. We were lucky that we caught the final 3pm tour on a Saturday and there were only 6 of us. The "hacienda" is impressive and one can see the signs of "big money" behind this operation.

Our tour guide spent a great deal of effort trying to sell the story that Herradura hasn't changed the production methods established many years ago but the monstrous facility seems to contradict that fact? This is a high production facility and why would anyone expect things not to have changed?

There is a great deal to be learned on this tour and it is a good starting point prior to trying one of the smaller boutique type distillery tours.

“Excellent and informative tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

If you're staying in Tequila, it's worth the drive to go to Herradura in nearby Amatitan. We toured three distilleries while in the area, and this one was the best. At each tequila house, you hear something different. At Herradura, the guide was informative and genuinely enthused about the tequila making process and the Herradura history.

One of the most unique parts of the tour was seeing the ancient factory, which was run by a priest in the 1800s and is still in great condition. Another bonus was seeing fermentation process up close.

“Worth the detour on our trip from Guadalajara to Nuevo Vallarta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

We were unable to book a reservation on the Tequila Express train tour so we decided to make a detour on our drive from Guadalajara to Vallarta and took the tour of Herradura. It is quite interesting not only to know the tequila making process, but to learn about the history of the place. Our group was small, thus we were able to interact with our friendly guide with more ease. The only letdown was that at the end of the trip we were not able to shop at the company store on site, as it was closed and were told they were all busy at the place where the Tequila Express train people were having their party.

“Destileria Herradura (Amatitan, Jalisco, Mexico)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

The Tequila Herradura plant is not in Tequila Jalisco, it is in Amatitan, Jalisco Mexico which is near the city of Tequila. We tour the plant during a workday in June 2013 and it was GREAT. As soon as we started walking, Saul (our tour guide), noticed that my wife was slightly limping and asked why. Once we mentioned that she recently had surgery on her foot, he went for a golf cart to continue the tour. Again, it was excellent. We review the whole process of the tequila production from the start to the end, and all for just 100 pesos per person. There are other more expensive prices (200 or 300 per person) but they involve tasting the more expensive tequilas like the añejos. For my family on a budget 100 pesos was just perfect.
So far, we have toured the "La Cofradia" in Tequila and this one. Although both are excellent tours, we prefer Tequila Herradura. Again, thanks to Saul our tour guide.

“Herradura Tequila Tour - Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

We had some friends come down for a short trip, so we thought we would all take a trip over to Tequila and take a tour of a tequila factory. We hired our favorite drive, Luis, to take us over and we made a day of it. The highlight of the day was the Herradura distillery, wow, what a really neat place. This is a working distillery, which is also part of the original distillery dating back to the late 1800's. Big hacienda, oven building housing the multitude of ovens, stainless steel piping to the distillation vessels, a real mixture of old world and modern technology. They also have a small area where you can see some of the original equipment they used to make tequila. And of course, the tequila tasting in the courtyard with the rest of the tour group was a lot of fun.
If you're in Guadalajara, or down Lakeside at Chapala and you have an extra day available, then I strongly suggest the trip. It's very worthwhile. There are a lot of other distilleries, but this one is really well done and highly recommended.
