“Not a nice experience for my belly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I know this place doesn't get many bad reviews and I know the locals are very fond of this place, but unfortunately, I cannot share their views..
I really cannot see the difference between this food and an average "fast food" take away somewhere in the middle of any town or city. I have tasted better fish & chips in pubs and restaurants elsewhere in the UK. Fish is nicer without that heavy tempura and I don't know what the chips are cooked in, but it does take the flavour away and is replaced by a "lard" or fat like taste. I will visit in 6 months time and see if it's got any better or not. We all make mistakes!

“Consistently good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

I have visited Murgatroyds on many occasions, both the out-sales and the restaurant and I have yet to be disappointed. The food is good and the staff in the restaurant are attentive and efficient. The restaurant is modern, cheerful and immaculate. 'Pensioners Specials' come with a choice of starters (the soup is always very good). The main course has well cooked fish with crispy batter, plenty of chips and includes mushy peas. It comes with generous helpings of bread & butter and tea. There is a choice of puddings and the crumbles are good and of decent proportions. Prices keep edging up, but if you like fish and chips this place is well worth a visit. The only possible niggle is that the car park can be a bit tight when the place is busy,

“Best Fish & Chip Eaterie in GB”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Called in at Billy Murgs y'day for my usual order when i'm passing through Yeadon. In my own opinion, they are by far the best fish & chips in Great Britain.
The fish is of great quality, and what a tray full you get for your money, it may be a stroke on the expensive side, but when you take into account the quality and size of the fish, you're onto a good deal. Even the usual seaside places like Blackpool, Scarborough, Brighton etc, don't give you the satisfaction of having had a good old plateful of food that you can be content with.
It's that good i take detours to get to it enroute to wherever i'm going in the area. It's easily accessible from the Leeds / Bradford area, and only about a 15 / 20 min drive from the A1 / A59 junction.
I always get a takeout to bring up for my father too, normally the Haddock Big 'Un With Chips, it's huge, it lasts him 2 days, he loves them from there, the secret is in the batter they fry them in.
Nobody should be disappointed with the food here, it's all great.

“End of season do.”

End of bowls season get together. Had an excellent three course meal for a very reasonable pensioners price. Service was quick and pleasant. Very good.
