“Charming place to stay and be spoiled”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

We stayed here with a group of friends during a long distance bicycle trip "The green route to the Mediterranean". The chambres d'hôtes is slightly of this route, but it is certainly worth the detour. It is situated in a charming hilly countryside just east of Lyon in a small hamlet. The old farmhouse has been meticulously restored. Rooms are of excellent quality with good bathing facilities. Nathalie and Richard Kozik really take care of their guests. We were first served local beer and then were served an exquisite meal consisting of locally produced food. The bread was self made and very nice. Breakfast is excellent with homemade hong, homemade jams and the good bread. The price is slightly higher than the average hotel we had on our trip, but it is money well spent.

Dear cycliste guest.
Many thanks for your comments and your lovely pictures. Nathalie and I are very pleased that you have loved your stay during your bicycle trip with your friends. By tasting our fabulous local beer called “Bière des Ursulines” , it's was obvious that you will remember your one night step in our charming hilly countryside. Thank again for doing the detour from your green route to the Mediterranean. I Hope to welcome you again soon. Richard

Stayed here with my husband en route to the Alps in Jan. The owners are really welcoming and friendly and the setting is very beautiful and tranquil. Large comfy bed, good hot shower, delicious food and great service. Bought some of their own brewed aperitif to take with us - yummy. Sadly didn't get to use the spa. Would have loved to spend longer here.

Dear Sarah

Many thanks for your nice comments. I’m very pleased that you liked my home made aperitif which called Ratafia. It’s sweet and not too strong and women also love it ! I hope that your season in the French Alps let you free time for skiing and that it was not too hard to return at home. It will be also a great pleasure for us to welcome you again and longer. Richard

Atmosphère très sympa.

You feel yourself very welcomed. Nice spacious room & nice 'living room' and garden where you could stay during the day with free coffee and tea. Relaxed atmosphere and for 'slow travellers' like us bikers, a nice slow place to stay. La douce France!!!

We enjoyed a very nice holiday. Wonderfully decorated and clean rooms, each in a diffferent theme. This is not your typical bed and breakfast, since you get a lot more: complementary access to the swimming pool, the jacuzzi and the sauna.

The family really takes care of you, with nice biological breakfast. On request they can even take care of a pick nick basket or diner. We certainly will come back for a next time!

I can't believe I'm the first to review this B&B, hasn't anyone else been? I'm so happy to write this one!

We approached La Bicyclette Fleurie with some trepidation because we had just left Le Mas Perreal which is a very hard act to follow. We drove towards Lyon, saw the city and worried some more. As we got closer and closer to La Bicyclette, we got calmer and calmer. This B&B is located in the outskirts of Lyon, amongst fields of livestock (cows, donkeys or mules, chickens), sunflowers and of course, the ubiquitous grapes vines. In short, it's beautiful and charming.

The B&B is an 18th century farmhouse. Richard and Nathalie renovated the guest quarters using all local materials. Richard reclaimed materials from the original structure and incorporated them into the current house. They installed a heating system that uses granulated wood. They rebuilt what I call the oven house and use the wood fired stone oven (just like in our pizza shops) to bake organic breads. And they serve organic or fair trade products sourced from neighbouring villages.

Each of the 2nd floor guest bedrooms is named after a country that Richard and Nathalie have explored on their bicycles! Each room is beautifully appointed with soaring ceilings, heavy wooden rafters with a private bathroom. Our room was luxuriously large and held a queen bed, a single bed, small table and chairs. The beds were blessedly firm. Our very large (floor to ceiling) windows were partially covered with grape vines which cling to the front of the B&B, laden with grapes (not ripe until the fall!). Downstairs from the bedrooms is a large open area where breakfast is served on rainy and cold days (we ate outside most days in the garden). Breakfast was a hot dish (crepes, chocolate breakfast cake), homemade breads with many different jams, fruit, home-made yogurt (cow milk or soy milk which was very yummy), fruit juice, coffee or a choice of many herbal teas. They always left a bottle of their own grape juice out for guests. There is a closed garden with fruit trees, a covered and heated swimming pool (which is open air in the warmer months) and a jacuzzi.

Nathalie is a massage therapist and though I didn't get one, there were other guests partaking of her skill and they looked quite relaxed. On fine days, Nathalie sets up a large tent outside and plays lovely soothing music while she works. Richard speaks more English than Nathalie (though N's English is quite good) and is very sweet. They both worked very hard to suggest just the right walk, historic site or other natural sites for us to visit. If you're interested ask Richard about the renovations, he's very proud (as he should be) of their house and the work he put into making La Bicyclette Fleurie a truly eco-friendly and beautiful place to stay. Really, he did the actual labor in the renovation, have him show you the photo album.

Since we are hikers, we spent our days walking in the area, there are lots of small, country lanes to walk on, some right from the house. Richard and Nathalie have tons of brochures and information of things to do in the area, we were happy to stick to the walking paths.

We really loved staying with the Koziks and I think you'd enjoy it as well - definitely stay with them if you're in the area.
