I stayed here one night before my return to the States, based on Trip Advisor reviews. I was not disappointed. This hotel is a very old home, lovingly cared for and decorated with fine taste. The surrounding gardens nurture tranquility. Since this is an old property, you have to expect some tired grout and peeling paint here and there, but the place is clean, with spacious bed and bath areas. The hot shower worked nicely. Most of all, the owner, Don Pablo, was unbelievably accommodating, especially when the WiFi did not work with my iPhone. He let me use his office computer to check in and print boarding passes. On top of that, he took me to the airport at 5:00 A.M. I will stay at Su Merced on my next trip to Ecuador, which I visit every few years on birding trips. My only concern, which I mentioned to Don Pablo, was a barking dog on the neighboring property. He was surprised when I told him that in my part of the U.S. most dogs are taken into their homes at night. His own two dogs spent the night curled up together on the front steps. Anyway, it is a good idea to bring ear plugs.
