Description: Nestled alongside the Ceres Burn, Meldrums Hotel is a mid-19th century coaching inn that marries Iberian cuisine with the rustic charm of Scottish hospitality. Our passion is great food and great service. We believe that each and every guest deserves only the best from the moment that they arrive: a warm welcome from our staff; a pre-supper cocktail - using the best ingredients and perfectly-mixed; the finest cuts of meat and seasonal produce cooked to perfection; attentive, yet discreet, service; and rustic surroundings from which to watch the world pass by. Our suite of rooms are a home away from home and are ideal for those wishing to absorb the culture and history of Edinburgh and St Andrews or to escape to the wilds of the Highlands. Our menus are eclectic. We source our ingredients from local farmers and merchants and complement them with the finest imported cheeses, meats - including the Pata Negra - and spices. Our dishes embody the very best of Iberian cuisine. Our menus are eclectic. We source our ingredients from farmers and merchants - all of whom are local to the area - and marry them with the finest imported cheeses, meats and spices to create dishes that are both contemporary and traditional. Our dishes embody the very best of Iberian cuisine. Choice cuts of Aberdeen Angus, chargrilled or roasted until tender, are enhanced by locally-sourced Portobello mushrooms or vine-ripened tomatoes. The depth and spice of Portuguese and Spanish gastronomy is married with time-honoured Scottish fare; tarragon-scented navarin of lamb is balanced by dumplings flavoured with Isle of Mull cheddar and cannelloni al dente is stuffed with a delicate hot smoked salmon mousse. Our dishes combine the flavours and spices of the Continent and the New World with the earthy and robust textures of these Isles and their waters. The lightness of grilled scallops are enriched by a black pudding from Asturia and a puree of English peas; our breasts of Barbary and Gressingham duck are marinated in Teriyaki; and our Taste of the Sea combines the meatiness of mussels and scallops with the delicacy of sea bass in a seafood bisque laced with hints of coriander.

“A very enjoyable experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Visited for Sunday lunch. The staff were welcoming and professional. The food and atmosphere were very good, and the restaurant soon filled up. Very reasonably priced too. An interesting village to wander around afterwards to let lunch settle!

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

I dont normally like going out to eat because I consider it mostly overpriced pretentious rubbish, however with a yearly wedding anniversary..... We took the plunge and ate at Meldrums in Ceres. I must say it was really nice, excellent tasty food, reasonable prices and cheery staff. We will be going back again soon and I may be a convert to eating out more often !!

“Spoilt for choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Stayed at this hotel and enjoyed a wonderful choice of great food. Brian has been in the restaurant business for a great number of years and has recently moved to Meldrums. The food is superb and the restaurant was full all weekend which says something as it is in a small village. Try the Rabies Feast. Black pudding and haggis in a filo pastry. You will not be disappointed I promise you. They also have a great selection of wines and port not to mention the whiskey of course.

“Fantastic Meal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Had a great meal at Meldrums Hotel - the food is absolutely fabulous! My only regret is that I could not manage a sweet. The food was well presented, good portion sizes, very tasty and great service! A mix of scottish and portuguese food where else will you get that!

“Disappointing meal after having high expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

We went here for an evening meal after hearing rave reviews from my wife regarding the lunch menu. First the good points:- The staff were excellent, very attentive and helpful. Two of us had piri piri liver pate and it was very nice served with thin slices of toast and the other starter was mussel bowl and that was well received. Now the down side. Two of us had fish cake after hearing that the ingredients included trout and some chili with chips and salad. The fish cakes were very bland with very little taste and we both left some but the chips were good! The steak pie was o.k. My wife had braised beef and it was overdone, black on the top and the onion rings served with this were raw.Two of the party had a sweet which was apple pancakes which was nearly cold when served and contained what seemed to be apple pie filling. We had white and rose wine and this was fine. A mixed evening and a little disappointing.
