2nd trip to this hotel in the last 6 months. The hotel itself has its Cuban charm. The staff are very friendly and want to help anyway they can. The main reason that I returned to this hotel is the cheap price and the fishing.
The rooms in this hotel a very basic. There is a stand up shower, the hot water is only available after noon and evening. The hot water is heated by the sun so in the morning its very cold. There was a fridge in the room always good to keep a few cold beers for the morning before the bar opens. The pillow that you get is very thin, I used a towel to make it thicker.
The food is horrible but you can always eat something. The pool area has hotdogs, burgers, fries and pizza. Not bad.
The pool is just amazing, big and warm. There was a vollyball net set up this time, I brought a ball and left it there. The ball they had grew legs and walked away.
The beach is alright but its always windy. Bring water shoes as the coral can be sharp. it is very nice to walk on the beach to the other hotels and see the shops and bars. I did not have any problems getting drinks or snacks at other resorts but this was not the case with others that tried. Its like if you hace a cuc in your hand the drinks start to flow.
The night life. Well there are 2 bars just outside the resort. They are located in walking distance, i grab a beer from the hotel to help make the walk a little shorter.. The beers are 1cuc or 26er of Havana club for 6cuc. Cheap lol. They do have a dance and singing show at the 2nd bar they do have a 1cuc entry fee to get in this bar, however its the best money you will spend, great show before the dance floor kicks. this bar is closed at 3 am and the remainders funnel back to the other bar to finnish the night untill the sun rises.
The main reason I retuned to this location was the fishing. The El Capitain is a great soul. The mates want nothing more than you to catch. As they say we go catching not fishing. My friend and charted the Catamran(really) for 4 hours for 130cuc. It turned into almost 5 hours. We caught 4 nice barracuda. The funny thing is that you can NOT EAT THE BARRACUDA AS THEY CAN BE TOXIC AND MAKE YOU VERY SICK. I had a Cuban friend tell me they can feed a piece to a cat if it dies in half and hour dont eat it(I leave Timba at home). The other way is to leave a piece for the ants and they wont eat it if its toxic. I just say pass thanks. I had something bigger but will have to wait till next time to boat it as it got away. Bottle beer was included.
The staff keep this place very and I did not see any bugs other than ants. The entertainment was fantastic. They had a band doing nightly showes Sandunga was their name, bought a cd to bring home. This band was there for the week only they usually have a group of dancers that had the week off. Victor is always a blast. Livia is just plain awesome.
All in all a great place to relax and have a amazing time. will return asap. The rating is in reflection of the food not the service. I really do enjoy it here.
