Having spent the day at Cowes (for the second day of Cowes Week) I wanted somewhere I could eat seafood, surprisingly lacking in Cowes itself. Many, many, many years ago I visited the Ferry Inn further up the river but was interested to see signs to The Lifeboat opposite the entrance to Vicky's place (Osborne House!). I understand the pub is not very old, having been built on reclaimed land and at the same time as a new harbourside development. The pub is modern, spacious and a good starter's menu. I didnt bother with mains but had two starters, the monkfish gougons and the lemon and pepper squid both of which were very nice. The deck was littered with very professional looking yacht teams adding to the interest at that time of the pub's location overlooking a large marina. Shame about the quarry on the other side of the river but even that is surrounded by trees, all in all pleasant. My food was served very quickly considering the balcony was packed with people and the bar staff were friendly, happy and waiter very helpful.
