We found this wonderful place from internet while searching for a quiet resort by the beach in North Sulawesi. We also wanted the place not only focused on diving like most of the resorts at North Sulawesi.
Since there are not that much information found on internet on this part of the island – not even marked roads on Google maps – we were curious what kind of place this would be. So we didn't know actually anything before we went there.
Anyway, for us the place is a paradise. It's totally worth the three-hour drive in curvy and hilly roads that takes you there.
We ended up staying at Bentenan beach resort 11 days and we would've loved to stay longer if we had a longer holiday.
At that moment the resort had two cottages, smaller and a bigger one. The cottages are very simple with bed, western toilet, shower, couple of benches, fan and a nice terrace. The resort is remote so the local electricity doesn't always work but they have an own generator for the electricity brakes.
The beach is perfect. The resort's beach is at least 1000 meters long with soft sand coral reef starting 20 meters from the shore. Most of the time we were the only people at the beach. The water is crystal clear and very warm. So if you are looking for tranquility and untouched nature this is the place.
The villages close by are very small and the people are very friendly. There are no restaurants or real shops in the near villages but you can easily spend a few days just exploring the beach, jungle and the villages.
We rented a motor and explored the neighborhood a bit further. There is a little bigger interesting villages called Ratahan and Languan with ATMs, internet, marketplace, a travel agency and a few shops and restaurants. It takes about 90 minutes to drive there from BBR.
The staff at Bentenan beach resort are friendly and helpful. Even if you have a small problem they will do their very best to resolve. For us they organized the motorbike, pick-ups, hotel reservations to next destination, jungle tours and other sightseeing. From the Bentenan village you can get a massage.
The staying includes three meals and we never left the restaurant our stomaches empty. The food is basic good indonesian food (fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, egg, rice) but you can ask the cook to prepare you whatever you prefer.
The german manager, Christoff, speaks fluent english and we guess fluent indonesian in the near future so he is the person who will help you with everything.
After all, we totally loved the place! We came back home totally relaxed and felt that we had experienced some real Indonesia.
