“Fantastic Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

If you would like to do something out of the ordinary tourist route then this tour could be the one for you. We were picked up and driven through the countryside to an old planters mansion. Two brothers owned this mansion and both took different side on the Portuguese/Independent Goa movement. You visit each side of the mansion, the families still do not speak with each other and both sides of the mansion are very different. Then off to lunch cooked by the wife of the house who I must say is a fantastic cook and the food was amazing. The lunch is hosted in an original priests house that has been lovingly restored by the owner. A tour of the house is given by the owner before you sit down to your amazing lunch experience. Fantastic day!

“Keeping Goa's History Alive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

KOKOindia’s LUNCH CLUB is a brilliant and intimate way to discover unique Goan historic and cultural sites, whilst sharing a delicious meal in marvellous surroundings. Our day began with a drive into the countryside, after being collected from our cruise ship, Seabourn Pride, accompanied by our knowledgeable and warm guide, Jess, and two good friends to visit two old-world Portuguese mansions, each great examples of what can be done to maintain Goa’s heritage.
Initially, we visited the 16th century Braganza House in Chandor, a splendid but crumbling mansion where descendants of the original owners, two brothers, continue to live in aristocratic poverty in rooms crammed full, in the most eccentric way, of objet d'art with tours conducted in equally eccentric ways. Each family, in their own ways, were very proud of their heritage and want to maintain it into the future.
The second, the lovingly restored Palácio do Deão in Quepem is stunning. Charmingly curated with beautiful gardens all restored by the host, Ruben and his wife, Celia. Ruben is passionate about their home and its history and his wife's cooking - and for good reason. We enjoyed the most wonderful food. We were served a combination of simple, fresh ingredients, lovingly prepared - and many courses, each more impressive than the last.
We enjoyed a wonderful day out, were treated to the best of Goan/Portuguese cuisine and were returned in good time to the ship that was only in port for the day.
A highly recommended day tour.

“Fantastic surprise of luxury in a quite Indian village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

On their recent visit to Goa, I booked a surprise gift for my parents.....The lunch club tour. I was a bit wary of my mom not enjoying it as she is a very hard to please woman. But needless to say, both my parents came back from the tour just raving about everything...the guide, the other travelers, and especially the food!!! From the welcome drink made from Kokum berries to the other lovely vegetarian surprises. As non meat or fish eaters, they could not experience much authentic Goan food. But the lunch club had catered especially for my parents and surpassed all expectations. They had a lovely time and would be happy to recommend the lunch club tour as a MUST while traveling in Canacona.

“What a lovely day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

How delightful to discover such hidden Portuguese gems in Goa.
A lovely day spent gently cruising through the back roads of Goa with two visits to historic Goan Portuguese mansions. One, very much faded splendour, and a trip into the past. The second, owned by a delightful couple who have been restoring the ancient priests house to it's original magnificence.. Beautiful gardens, a warm welcome, and MY GOD!!! The best food that I have ever eaten in India. Truly, if you have the opportunity to take this trip do it! You won't regret it!

“Out of the Hammock in Goa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

KOKOindia’s LUNCH CLUB is a brilliant and intimate way to discover out-of-the-way Goan historic and cultural sites, whilst sharing a delicious meal in the company of other interested travellers. Our outing began with a drive into the countryside, in a new vehicle with aircon and a safe driver, accompanied by our knowledgeable and warm guide and a delightful couple from Vancouver. We visited the 16thc Braganza House in Chandor, a splendid but crumbling mansion where descendents of the original owners continue to live in aristocratic poverty. We moved on to the Palacio do Deao in Quepem where, following a tour of the beautifully-restored house by its current owner, we were served an equally palatial lunch of Indo-Portuguese dishes cooked by his wife - the best meal we’ve had during our three month stay in Goa. We highly recommend KOKOindia’s initiative and professionalism in providing travellers opportunities to experience life beyond the hammock.
