“Fantastic day out for a solo traveller!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

I've recently been enjoying a little holiday alone in Agonda when I heard about The Lunch Club with KOKOindia. I had an absolutely brilliant day out full of Goan culture and history, not to mention sensational food and great company. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves good food but also to anyone like me who is looking for a lovely social day out.

“A perfect cultural and culinary experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Not usually one to leave trip advisor reviews, but simply had to extend our thanks to KOKO India, and the lovely Joanna for a delightfully different Goa experience.  I really would recommend escaping the beach for a day for this, perfectly tailored trip. A comfortable drive from Patnem to see some old-world Portuguese mansions, topped off by some delicious food in a beautiful setting.  Both properties visited are fascinating in their own ways. The first 'House of Branganza' is crammed full, in the most eccentric way, of objet d'art with tours conducted equally eccentric descendants of this proud house.  The second, a lovingly restored Palacio is stunning, charmingly curated with beautiful gardens. In those very gardens we enjoyed the most wonderful food, the like of which I have never experienced anywhere else.  Traditional Goan-Portuguese, it turns out, is a combination of simple, fresh ingredients, lovingly prepared - and many courses, each more impressive than the last.  The host Ruben, is an absolutely LOVELY man.  Passionate about his home and it's history and his wife's cooking - and for good reason!

All in all a perfect day out.  We even made it back to the beach in time for a sunset swim.  Bliss :)

“A wonderful afternoon and incredible food in a stunning location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

On a recent trip to Goa, my friends and I wanted to do something a little different on our last day and had heard great things about The Lunch Club and KOKOindia. We only had a limited amount of time, so contacted Joanna at KOKOindia to see if we could just take part in the lunch rather than the full tour. Joanna couldn't have been more accommodating and lovely, and arranged a special lunch just for us. She met us at Palacio do Deaos, a beautifully renovated priests' mansion, and joined us for a really special afternoon. The owner of the mansion, Ruben, was the perfect host and brought out dish after dish of delicious goan portuguese food: pumpkin souffle, king prawns, a range of veggie dishes, chicken curry, whole fresh fish, rice and salad. Joanna was fabulous company and after lunch took us on a tour of the house and stroll around the gardens before being driven back to Patnem. A perfect day out with friends!

“"Allow yourself to be transported into Portuguese Goa with The Lunch Club"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

Having spent the last seven years in Goa I truly felt I had certainly found every last gem that was to be discovered...until now! We tend to associate Goa with beach life and whilst this is very true as Goa does have many stunning beaches there is an opportunity to discover the deep rooted history that has defined this small state in India. I was fortunate to find the lunch club that offered exactly this, an insight into historical Portuguese/Goan living whilst treating you to a fabulous lunch of food that can only be described as authentic and not available on the beach!perfect for myself as somebody fascinated with architecture and a committed foodie!
I chose to join the lunch club with a small group of friends for the day, we were conveniently picked up from where we were staying in an a/c taxi driven by an excellent driver(2 things that have to be mentioned when travelling in India!)we then made our way up through the southern ghats that trail through Goa, enjoying the depths of the eucalyptus trees and the dappled sunlight(however many times I take this road it always evokes a sense of calm...I have learnt to ignore passing lorries!). Our first destination and chance to step into Portuguese Goa was at The house of Braganza, it is with thanks to Aida de Menezes Braganza who returned to her family home in 1961 and has since restored the family home to how her memories of a child living in this grand colonial mansion have remained with her, matching colors for the walls that would once have been painted with vegetable dye. The history of this house is extensive, the Portuguese awarded it its name as the last royal house of Portugal, Braganza,I could go on but that is part of the discovery that the lunch club is taking you through, and in this first destination your guide Joanna will share with you all a wealth of information as you step through this stunning home. The second destination we visited was Palaciodo Deao, again a lovingly, sympathetically restored Portuguese mansion( at this point I would like to say that both these houses are devotedly restored by the families residing in them and if it was not for there commitment to history and sharing it these houses would have been lost). For me this was the highlight of my lunch club tour, this has to be due to the fabulous food that was home cooked for us and served in a manner that I can only describe was being treated as an old friend coming home. I was lost in the space surrounding me, feeling very much as if I too resided here!we were seated on the veranda, a space very much used due to the climate and has the luxury of feeling in the house whilst surrounded by the exotic gardens. It was a feast for all the senses, and for me was an ethereal experience that time could not hamper. Following a long lazy lunch I explored the gardens that both Reuben and his wife were happy for us to do, I just fell in love with the space and explored it as perhaps you would have done on living here 200 years ago.
I long to write more as I wish for others to enjoy the experience as much as I did!I want to thank both families who have enabled us to share in this fundamental part of Goa s history, and a very big thank you to Joanna who organizes The Lunch club Tour, her charisma, infallible nature and her commitment to India and those visiting it is a definite recommendation from me.
