We were very disappointed in this hotel, especially after reading the misleading positive reviews. I traveled for 3 months in India, and this was by far the most unpleasant hotel experience I had. While the owner of the hotel and one of the workers who carried our bags were welcoming and kind, the rest of our experience was negative. The room was very dirty with a lot of cobwebs and it didn't seem like it had been cleaned in months. There was dust and debris on the windowsill and floor and even an old dirty glass and empty napkin holder on the table. It was very hot and the air conditioner turned off in the middle of the night on both nights, and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. My sister couldn't fall asleep for hours because they were so hard and lumpy (she never had that problem anywhere else). We only ate at the restaurant once because the food was not good and the beer was warm. Lastly, we tried to check out with a credit card (there is a sign in the office stating they accept credit cards), but the guy who checked us out said we couldn't use our credit cards because the manager wasn't there. So we said we'd come back later to pay when the manager was there, and he said that was ok. When we came back at 5pm, the manager still wasn't there. We didn't have any cash and the employee told us we had to pay in cash and rudely demanded that we go to the ATM. Our taxi was waiting for us to drive us to Panaji, but we didn't have a choice so we went to the ATM and came back to pay in cash. It was extremely frustrating and time-consuming and the man was so unfriendly and unprofessional. Big disappointment.
I would highly recommend staying at one of the beach huts (they range a lot in price and style, so you should be able to find something that suits you. Some even have balconies facing the ocean). There are many places to stay on the beach and the location is much better than staying at Cleopatra's (about a 5-7 min walk from the beach).
I think this hotel could be much better if they actually took the care to clean their rooms and train their staff on good customer service. Hopefully they will take that into consideration.
