“great location, full of air and light”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This is an apartment hotel, made up of two completely re-made towers and brand new common areas. I used to know the building before the transformation and it is quite amusing to identify original pieces of architecture and furniture in the re-styled, re-furbished, re-branded context. And you can tell it was a very intelligent and efficacious operation. The hotel is not the most interesting building you can get but it is extraordinarily spacious and very clean. The apartments have a small kitchenette where you can cook comfortably: this is a fundamental issue when you are staying with your kids for 4-5 days (or more) because you can very easily get bored with the walking distance restaurants (at the Marina). Other practical notes: breakfast is very good; the outdoor pool is also great but only usable during spring-summer (unless you enjoy very cold water); the indoor pool is a fair and nice big pool but it can get crowded during ‘normal’ hours – on the contrary, you can be there just by yourself if you use it early in the morning, until 10:00 or so, and during lunch time 13:00-15:30.

This is probably evident when you look at the maps and the pictures of the hotel but you can really walk to the white sand ocean beach, going out from the outdoor pool garden and taking a wooden deck: this is definitely the greatest value of staying at the Aqualuz. This is real good value for money during out-of-the-season stays. Just pay attention to the weather forecasts: the real important thing is that you get sunny days, either in January or October or any other month. In this money for value sense, Aqualuz is definitely unbeatable in Tróia and surroundings.

Room Tip: ask for the sea view apartments and top floors (from 7 and up)

We were there end of november and although there was nothing indicated on their website or elsewhere, the towers of the hotel, the restaurants, bars and the swimming pools were closed for maintenance. They only provided their visitors with low rise rentals apartments outside of the hotel with no services. A deception as we were expecting much better from the pictures on their website.

I loved the breakfast, one of the best I have ever had.
Visited on late august so the structure was alright in terms of space (I can see from other review that there were problems linked to the busy season).
The pool is amazing, beaches around are just fantastic and of course pretty empty on weekdays. Weekend is another story as this is the favourite beach of Lisboners :) .
Cons: beds are separated. Prices are quite high. No washing liquid and no wine glasses (which is quite disappointing for the price you pay).
Anyway strongly suggested (probably not during high season).

I went last summer with my wife and daughter, and a friends family. We enjoyed the geographical location, the surrounding sea.
It is a great place to go with families or even with your couple. The hotel is located in a peninsula, with very long wild beaches and pine tries. Not a lot of construction and in general of very high quality and standing.
It has a small marina and you can catch the two different ferries to go to Setubal, which is a large city. From there you can travel to Lisbon, or other near locations.
The only inconvenience is that it's windy, at list during the month of July, probably due to the temperature differences between mainland and see water.

Room Tip: I would choose the rooms with the see views. You can even see dolphins.

We had a lovely stay at the Aqualuz apartment hotel in Troia. The apartment was very well kitted out, lovely décor and was very clean and cosy. The kids loved the pool and the beach was out of this world:) Hotel staff were pleasant. The guest relations manager Joao Carlos was so helpful when we had difficulty renting bikes in the locality. We had a wonderful time on the bikes in this beautiful part of the world. Thanks Joao. Great football pitch on the resort which the boys thought was fantastic. Very quiet time of year to visit Troia. Not much in terms of nightlife, shopping and restaurants. Definitely worth renting a car or else hopping on ferry to Setubal. Would love to return to this hotel Troia in the high season.

It was one of my major disappointments as far as hotels go. Based on the web page, the pictures and most of the reviews I was expecting something splendid, especially for 220 EUR a night. Well, let me list some major highlights:

1. The beds are separate. And you cannot bring them together, oh no. They are small and very separated, so if you are there with your partner, you will have a lot of personal space. And if you have a kid that wants to cuddle in the middle of the night, you'll end up on the floor. How stupid is it? Separate beds??? In EVERY room (with exception of the super expensive ones). Seriously?

2. The rooms have their own kitchen, but there are no glasses and no washing liquid. So if you eat, you can either leave the dishes dirty or buy a liquid for 4 EUR in a store, as the housekeeping will not wash it. And if you want to drink wine in your room, buy glasses too, as even if you ask at the reception, the housekeeping will forget to bring them.

3. The roof had a hole and there was leakage that was not fixed during our week's stay. The water was running into a bucket placed on the floor, 10 floors down.

4. The elevators were not working sometimes.

5. The pools are rather cold. Sometimes there were no towels, as they "forgot to wash them". And the towel outlet has breaks all the time, so it's quite hard to get the towel.

6. The breakfast is absolutely horrible. Really poor. And... you need to get in the queue to get inside. Sometimes the queue was 20 minutes long. Awesome logistics!!!

7. The inside pool has fungus all over.

8. The reception staff was polite and spoke English. But all other staff (for example the parking guy) has no English skills.

9. Ah, the parking. So we've paid a LOT for the parking for the whole week. One evening, we're back from a road trip, with almost asleep baby and the parking guy is telling us (mostly in Portuguese) that NO PLACES, MISTER. But we've paid for it! We have a special ticket. NO, SORRI MISTER. The thing is that this parking is used by general public as a beach parking. But WHAT THE HELL DO I CARE??? I've paid for the hotel parking, damn it. And the whole Troia is a no parking zone. You can't just leave the car nearby. I really want to meet the person that is responsible for this.

10. The restaurants on the waterfront - nothing fancy (kebab place is the best). But this is not hotel's fault. The hotel restaurant is even less fancy.

11. The beach is awesome but it's quite a walk (like 10 minutes).

Overall - very expensive hotel which is maybe 3* (if you're generous), with a lot of annoying drawbacks. Never ever again.

Beautiful and functional hotel for family and groups. Excellent buffet restaurant. Good swimming pool area and lovely indoor heated pool. The Internet area and access on the room was poor. Kitchen on room. Breathtaking view of Serra da Arrabida and Setubal. Excellente beach on front of Hotel.
The congress worked perfectly and efficiently with help of the staff.
