“Nice place to stay... But...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Beautiful location, great panoramic view of the sea. spent a 3 days in the resort. There is no room service available. Intercom does not work, so for every small little thing you have to walk down to the reception every time. Bathroom has natural guests (frogs) which keep haunting you sitting in toilet seat (rest you can imagine). I guess water problem is there in every room, other guests also complained about the same and was seen walking down to the reception to have the water problem resolved. Water pressure in the bathroom is pathetic, you can't enjoy a shower, but can surely use bucket.
The staff was very helpful and was ready to help with anything possible in their limits. Looks like the owner of the Honeybeach cottage has restricted the staff.
The staff is multipurpose, The cook can be a DJ as well, the receptionist can be a housekeeping person as well, the shopkeeper can be a bartender. It's funny to see people playing multiple roles.
Food is good but no Sea food available.
Had pathetic experience on New Year eve, the moment we took a break for dinner to come back for drinks, everything was removed from the location and no sign of owner. Very bad, they charged Rs. 1000 per person, but did not pay any attention to the guests.
Overall PATHETIC Exp with the place.
Go only for the Location and max ONE day stay.

Room Tip: Make your own choice. Be prepared to face frogs in bathroom.

spent couple of nights in this resort and it is really a nice experience. To start with, Ramesh (manager) called us before the day of arrival and asked us when we are reaching at Ankola. He also provided the pick-up auto from the Bus stand to the resort as it is 10/11km far from the bus stand. He also accommodated us for early check-in as we reached resort as early 7 am in the morning. The location is really good and the beach is completely secluded. No other resorts/locality around this place hence quite peaceful. Food is also nice. However the room service needs to be improved and the last 3km stretch of the road towards the resort is pathetic.Another point, mobile network is not available there for either Vodafone or Airtel.

Room Tip: any sea view room

Awesome breathtaking location, great for relaxing with some average seafood & a panoramic view of the Arabian sea. Great place for a family stay but not too safe for young kids.Service & quality of food can do with some improvement. The summer was just setting in & the air conditioners in the room were not exactly world class. Overall a satisfying experience.

We spent 3 weeks in the that resort. It is very secluded and peaceful. From the next village, Ankola it is 8 km, the last 3 km on gravel road. So you have little chance to escape the food offered at the resort (no other resorts or hotels within walking distance). We were lucky enough to have an indian friend with us who was allowed to prepare food for us in their kitchen. The quality that we tasted from the "official" buffet at various occasions was very basic so we have daubt that "normal" indian tourists would appreciate it. The bungalow that we rented had a nice location and was very quiet. For a very nice swimm you have to walk ca 5 min. to an other beach which is very clean and unhaunted by souvenir wallahs. The beach ist very clean with only little garbage. The staff is very very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: rent a scooter, so you are able to reach Ankola or Gokarna to do some shopping

Not many long distance trains stop at Ankola as it is a small station. We took the weekly Veraval Express. Since we were unsure about the connectivity from the railway station to the resort and since we didn’t want to pay what the autos (taxi) would demand, we had the hotel guys book the to and fro part, which they did diligently. A 20-km to and fro trip cost us Rs. 500. It was on the higher side but the destination was interior and the roads were not good for half the journey and it was lonely. So, we didn’t mind paying that much. But the point is; you have enough autos at the station to take you to your destination. Try and come in early in the morning so that you can make the best of your check-in time and you are in the day hours, best time to travel locally.
Pluses of Ankola:
1. Great, beautiful destination, not known to many, and you will pity those who think Goa is the most beautiful in terms of beach
2. Excellent road connectivity to the town (but not to this resort, which is not reachable in the rains)
3. Nice train connectivity if you wish to travel without the worries of managing your vehicle (this is a plus or minus depending on your taste, I love to travel carefree without having to take my own vehicle)
Minuses of Ankola:
1. It tends to get very hot, even in the Sep-Oct period

Pluses of Honey Beach resort:
1. Excellent, scenic destination (Moment you reach the gate, you realize this is an outstanding location).
2. Cordial staff, mostly east Indians, good nature and helpful
3. Great privacy, in the resort and also in the beach (which is pretty much open only for the resort, therefore making it a like a private resort (covered by rocky hill on all sides). We went on weekdays and there was no soul on the beach for most of the time (only a dream)
4. One of the most beautiful beaches with excellent water show by mother earth
5. Besides the sand beach, you will find a nice rocky beach also, a good change to see water splashing and you can walk on them too
6. Plenty of harmless crabs, fun to watch, track and photograph
7. A climbable hill adjoining the beach gives another vantage point to watch distant boats, ships and plenty of birds of prey (especially the Brahmi Kite: white neck, dark brown body)
8. Excellent huge boulders at the side of the sandy beach, makes for a great photography companion
9. Photography – Since you have privacy, you get plenty of great looking backgrounds with your loved ones and of course, the great scenery too
10. Food – I would term as good but I’m not a big fan of food, as I look at food as a source for being healthy and alive, period. They cook fresh, that’s nice

Minuses of the resort:
Resort is not great, I would barely give it a star rating
1. Rooms are clean but there was no effort to clean the next day (you should ask)
2. Only bedroom can be locked, living room has a netted door which allows tiny insects and frogs to feel the resort, this is fun but some may not like it.
3. No hot shower, only cold shower (very surprising)
4. Toilet wouldn’t clean-up even when you flush, had to be done repeatedly and if you watch carefully, you might find worms in there. I chose to believe that since this is near such a forest like area with lots of water around, this is natural and harmless
5. Frequent power cuts but they have back-up, but due to the power fluctuations, my Canon charger was burnt. Hotel manager calmly declined to take responsibility and placed the blame on the government, which I thought was not professional (resort should have at least provided a stabilizer for delicate electrical equipments if they know about fluctuations that cause electrial damage).
6. Food – average food, not much choice but good enough, may not please all.
7. Nights are very dark around the cottages, the CFL bulbs don’t lit-up the place well enough and therefore, gives an eerie feeling at night.
8. The resort is clean but not clean-enough, many guests misuse the place and throw garbage around (beer bottles, plastic were littered at quite a few spots though this was not as bad as other places)
9. Cell phones don’t have enough range but if you go to the beach, you can get it
10. The most painful part of the trip was the beds were only visibly clean (though there were a few stains here and there), and the issue was, both of us picked-up an unnecessary guest – the head lice
Resort features:
- Wardrobe
- AC rooms
- Hot water (but not for the shower)
- Phone
- Magazines
- Blanket
- Bath linen
- Soap and shampoo
Location rating: 5/5
Room rating: 2/5
Food rating: 3.5/5
Staff rating: 4/5
What’s the best feature: Lots of walking space around the beach to explore and be blissful, lots of crabs, peace, tranquility, shaded spots, small hill top.
Value for money: At 4000/- for 3 days/2 nights + food (all meals) + railway station transfers, this is good. But I lost a 5000/- Canon charger due to the power supply issue and the head lice were totally uncalled for.

How to reach Ankola via train!r
North Junction: Goa (Madgaon)
South Junction: Trichur or Shornur
East: Hubli or Dharwad
From Bangalore, reach Mangalore and then take a train from Mangalore to Ankola or, take a train from Bangalore to Goa and then another train from Goa to Ankola. Best trains:
Bangalore to Trichur – Ernakulum Superfast (leave from Bangalore Central, Cantonment or Karmelram (near Wipro Sarjapur) at 6:30 am and arrive at Trichur at 4:00 pm. Take your seat in neat, clean and smart waiting room with options to charge your laptop and cell phone or take a walk in Trichur. Connection train from Trichur at 9:00 pm (Veraval expresss) which will drop you at Ankola on the next day at 9:30 am. Note, these days, most trains run either on time or are delayed only around 30 minutes.

A view is nice. The beach is very nice. The good thing finished with this.
Better pay your bill immediately. Next day it happens to be double, you are not able to prove anything.
We stayed some days, the director organized a boat trip and helped us to rent a car. Both times the end price was far more then our agreement. The boat trip was stopped somewhere in the sea with the discussion of more money. Pay more or swim back!!! The boss forced us to pay more for the car, in another way he did not let us to leave the hotel, so we could be late for the train. The taxi driver was afraid of him and did not take us without the permission of the bloody man. It was really awful. Never ever again!

Room Tip: There are no good rooms

The place has excellent beach which is not private, but enclosed by rocky terrain on both sides, hence it's almost like a private beach. The sunset here is amazing. It's a playground beach.

Cottages are OVER PRICED and SHABBY. I won't recommend a stay here. The service is really unprofessional.

They allows Evening-Night- Cocktail-Buffet Dinner parties. You can BRING YOUR OWN BOOZE. Except for Beer and Soft drimks. The snacks are amazing. Their dinner is also upto good standards.

Their space for CAMPFIRE is good and they provide music systems too.

SERVICE! SERVICE! IS VERY BAD...

They don't have a good steward who could handle drinks at the counter. Not to mention LACK OF ICE CUBES.

I wouldn't recommend stay because of overpricing.
