“I just have to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Went with the family for a weekend break. Couple of hours drive up from Madrid.

If you enjoy wine and the countryside then I definitely recommend this place. We had the Albillo apartment. If you have children or are two couples then this is for you. Ojo, the only thing it is missing is a washing machine for those who might want one. The one photograph of this apartment they are missing from their web site is the terrace, which is great. If a group of you have a few rooms and some of you can get the apartment, then you can use the terrace to gather yourselves together and enjoy a few bottles of wine and conversation.

The staff are really friendly. One of my sons has allergies and they cooked him something special for breakfast and even offered to make him croissants without the egg glazing on them.

Had the roast lamb for lunch and it was great, as was the rest of the meal and the wine of course.

Do not worry if you need to stay connected, the wifi connection was excellent.

Did not bother to turn on the TV at all.

Beautiful countryside, lovely walks next to the river Duero and picnic tables in areas next to the river. There are marked routes for those real walkers out there, and the hotel has maps.

Had a peak in some of the other rooms, and would definitely recommend them for a romantic getaway, especially the suites.

The only negative is the fact that I have left my electric razor there and am going to have to go back for another night and load the car up with wine, obviously without the boys this time ;-)

Would definitely recommend this place.

We had such fun at this hotel. We stayed in the Tinta del Pais junior suite and had a good laugh at the over-the-top decor, including a photomural of local woods, a mosaic mural of the vineyards, and melted wine bottles serving as hooks, handles, and random decoration. The room was huge and featured a whirlpool tub. Our dinner was outstanding, and the wine from the onsite bodega was superb. Breakfast was fine, although the food options were a bit limited. We did not tour the bodega as planned, because the guide did not speak any English, and contented ourselves with buying a few bottles of wine before we left. (Language did not pose a barrier with the hotel or restaurant staff.) We would love to go back and spend some more time in the Ribera del Duero.

A family run 4 Star hotel with a working bodega. I think it was 2004 the family bought it and have been gradually developing it ever since. I noticed previous review that did not like the themed rooms, whereas we thought ours was fantastic, and at € 85 a night including breakfast was incredible value . The rooms are very contemporary but with this slight rustic theme of the bodega . The en-suite in particular was very clever with, for example, the towel hooks and the toilet roll holder all made out of what looked like flattened glass bottles. All very clever and stylish.
Our bed must have been close to 8ft wide , it was massive and so comfortable. The ceiling was concave and painted like the sky with clouds and tiny led lights like stars that changed colour. We just though it was so different , and brilliant.
The restaurant was in the same rustic/contemporary style. The food was excellent, a little pricey by Spanish standards but excellent value for the quality compared to the UK. The wine also by Spanish prices was a little pricey for quality. We thought the house wines at around €8 were not very good. For example, the upmarket restaurants on the northern Costa Blanca also charge around €8 for house wine, but they are usually crianza Riojas or something similar and much better quality. The breakfast was a very wide selection of pastries breads, hams cheeses etc with fresh fruit and all the usual cereals , plus a never ending stream of fresh juice and coffee.
All the staff provided great service and the level of English was excellent, plus the enjoyed us practicing our Spanish.
Location wise - depends on you . It is next door to a lovely monastry which is open to the public, and other than that all you see is distant hills and grapevines It is though only about 10 miles from Aranda de Duero a large town and centre of the Rubero wine area. Certainly a good spot if on route from the South to the ferry ports .

We stayed here on our return to France in April of 2014 and were very pleased with the help and advice we received from Noemi who seems to manage both the shop and reception. The room we stayed in was very clean with all mod-cons but, in our view, a little too "themed" for our liking - ours was in the style of a local fortified castle and the layout was not the most convenient. Their wine was OK - although we did really like their white Verdejo (which by the way is also the cheapest) - whilst the reds not quite such good value. The bar is very popular with locals which is always a good sign and we ate in the hotel restaurant - again, food was OK and plenty of it but not spectacular. All in all a pleasant but not memorable stay.

4 of us went to La Isilla for an 8 night stay, to immerse ourselves in Ribero del Duero wines. {we had done La Rioja last year}
What a find this hotel/bodega is. Most of the staff are fluent in English, so don't be worried if your Spanish isn't up to much! You will need a car though.
When we first booked,in January, there was no bar, restaurant or other rooms. They all opened in August. The staff will be more than happy to show you the rooms, they are incredible, each one different.
We had the Apartment for 2 and Tempranillo for the other 2. The apartment comes with a brilliant terrace, so sitting outside with a cool drink is wonderful.
The food in both the bar and dining room is stupendous. Huge portions, beware! Naturally the wine is fantastic. One of our party only drinks white and she was on the Rueda, which she enjoyed thoroughly!
On our last day we toured the Bodega and Cristina arranged for the wine we bought to be shipped home for us. {We couldn't get anyone in La Rioja to do that for us last year!}The cost for 3 cases was 80 euros and it took about 5 days for the wine to arrive.
Also on our last night, the harvest started!! It was more magical at night watching the grapes arrive and start their journey to become wine.
The staff are incredible, friendly, helpful and good fun. Can't recommend highly enough.

Room Tip: The apartment is good if you want to self cater. It has everything. All the rooms are fantastic. You...

We returned to this beautiful boutique hotel again this year, using it as a stop over on route back to the UK.

The changes in only 12 months are significant. They have now completed a further 7 rooms in the adjoining manor house and they are all finished in the same magnificent style. With quirky designs which make the most of the links to the bodega theme. We stayed in La Luz with its sunny enclosed balcony overlooking the front of the hotel and a view of the monastery. A great place to relax, read your book or just watch the world go by. A large room with a big comfy bed.

The hotel facilities now include a cafe bar and restaurant and the food is amazing. I shall complete a separate entry for the restaurant as it deserves a special mention of its own.

The staff are all very friendly and are happy to assist with any requests. A special mention to Christina and Naomi who made our stay so memorable. We cannot wait to return and sample the spa facilities when completed.

If you want a special break in the Ribero del Duero this is the hotel to choose.

Room Tip: They are all beautifully styled.

We have just had a wonderful weekend at this lovely boutique hotel. We were on our way home from the south of Spain to the UK, catching the Santander ferry. It was also our wedding anniversary so we decided to take our time and spend a couple of days in the Ribero del Duero area as we love the wine.

El Lagar de Isilla is a working bodega which is open to the public for tours and wine tasting. The rooms are attached to the bodega and consist of only 3 rooms/suites which are individually decorated with a winery theme.

We stayed in the Tinto del Pais suite which was huge with a jacuzzi bath, separate shower and loo, faux fireplace with a living flame fire and a massive bed. All very quirky but tasteful. Modern fittings and technology finish the effect. Great style and  some lovely touches. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in and certainly of a much higher standard then you would expect.

Breakfast is delivered to outside your room and you eat it in your room or if like us, in bed!!!!

We booked directly with the hotel and Beatriz managed our booking to perfection, including dining recommendations and arranging taxis and directions to other attractions.  We had a tour of the Bodega and a wine tasting of the lovely wines.  We bought some nice gifts from the bodega shop and obviously loads of wine.

Excellent location, facilities and value.

They family are rebuilding the village mansion house next to the bodega which will become a larger hotel/spa/restaurant. We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Tinto del Pais suite is large and comfortable. Particulary romantic for a couple.
