“Wonderful for all ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Visited Wingspan with a group of 33 seniors who all enjoyed this unique attraction. The people who are working with these birds of prey are so very passionate & dedicated to their work they deserve a medal for trying to save these birds from extinction. The flying display (at 2.0pm each day) of the NZ Falcons was great - several of my group took part, putting on a leather glove to let the falcon land on their arm - a real thrill for them, and a great photo opportunity too! While the birds are kept in an aviary, they do fly free every day while being rehabilitated & taught to hunt. They are still wild birds, not trained pets, so everything you see is a natural behaviour. The speed of these falcons is amazing, to say nothing of their eyesight - amazing! This is a truly great place to experience and can teach us all something about wildlife preservation. Highly recommended for all ages to visit.

“Fantastic!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

I only had one day in Rotarua so decided to visit Wingspan and was so pleased even after having to walk to get there. It wasn't like visiting another tourist attraction. This was a real facility working hard to have an impact on the decreasing numbers of NZ Falcons. Amazing people who are passionate about what they do. The birds were beautiful. The show was fantastic and informative. Was lucky there were not many people there when I went and got to put the glove on and hold the 'spitfire' ozzy.

This place wasn't about entertaining the pants off its visitors... It is real, inspirational and so worth supporting.

“Fantastic and something different to do in Rotorua...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Would definitely recommend this, and also 200 metres up the road is a free walk around a trout hatchery. But Wingspan is a great activity to do with all family members, no matter what age. People get the opportunity to put the leather glove on and have a falcon land on their hand. It was really amazing and great to see the falcons up close and see what they're capable of - such beautiful creatures - and the dedication of the falconers - outstanding. Keep up the great work.

“The most surprising and amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

I recently spent three months in Rotorua and did a good number of the tourist experiences whilst there. I had heard mention of Wingspan from listening to Ruud Kleinpaste on 2ZB on Saturday morning and a visit there was on my list of 'must do's' if I was ever in Rotorua so was delighted when I got as house sitting assignment there. I went originally in December and was blown away with the experience and it wasn't a difficult decision to make to part sponsor a fledgeling morepork who was just a wee ball of fluff at that time. And got a photo of Ozzie on my hand during the free flight demonstration which impressed family and friends no end. I returned before I left to find the ball of fluff was the same size as her foster mother and had been named Twilight. The small Museum of Falconry was fascinating and well presented and all staff and volunteers were so friendly, knowledgeable and willing to converse. Great ambassadors for this brilliant place.

“A great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Have been wanting to go here for ages and it was so worth it.
The falconers are really good. Lovely loud clear voices with great information and demonstrations.
It was great that we got to hold the falcon too, they offered it to anyone who wanted to including young children which I thought was fantastic.
They have a small museum along with the averies.
Really worth a visit. Keep up the great work Wingspan :-)
