“Good enough for a short rest or business activity”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

I was in a group of over 50 people for an overnight teambuilding activity. We used the main clubhouse for the group activities and were billeted at the Cedar Creek houses, among others.

The food was so-so. I had looked forward to having coffee here after getting up at 5 am to make it in time for the 8:30 am assembly here, but unfortunately despite the fact that this facility is in Batangas, their coffee is one of the blandest I have ever tasted. Service was okay.

The unit we stayed in was clean and well-maintained. It was a two-bedroom unit with a sala, kitchen, dining room. There was a TV in the sala and airconditioning in the bedrooms. However, there was a musty smell that bothered us, specially in the bathrooms. Also, there are no keys to the doors to the bedrooms. The key given to us was only for the front door. Since there was no notice otherwise, we had locked the door to the bedroom when we went out but when we asked at the front desk for the key to the bedroom, we were told there wasn't any at all. Which turned out to be true since the lock on the bedroom door turned out to be like a bathroom door lock which could be easily opened with a coin.

I took a walk after I woke up in the morning and chanced upon a very nice balikbayan (visiting overseas Filipino) couple from Darwin, Australia - Alfa and Cesar. We chatted for about half an hour and they seemed to be very content with the place which they rented (Oakridge, which was around the bend from the houses we had rented.)

The weather was nicely cool, which is what I expected for this time of the year. The overall resort seems to be well-maintained, and has the advantage of having mature pine (araucaria) trees, which I love. At least we felt like we were away from Metro Manila.

However, note that this location is far from most of the Tagaytay restaurants and attractions, so if you stay here you would take at least 20 minutes to get to anything exciting. But maybe that is what makes this an ideal place for rest and focused activities like teambuilding.

There was just some slight complication when we checked out. It seems that in one of the roomswe rented some wine was spilled onto the bed. For this, we were charged P4,000. But they let us take the stained bedsheets (2) and pillowcases home. Quite an expensive spill! They were also very strict about the corkage. Lesson learned - be very careful with the linens.

We went to Canyon Woods (CW) last July 2011 and stayed in a Casita overnight. We checked in around 7pm, good thing the indoor pool in the clubhouse was still open, I forgot their closing time. The place is very huge so I really advice people should have their own wheels since Casitas are far from the clubhouse, where you'll have your breakfast. Nothing to roam around in the area since all you can see are houses, grass, trees.

Our Casita is near the outdoor pool and the mini golf course area. Outdoor pools are only opened until 7pm I guess. But the room is superb, really spacious. The bathroom is clean, the linens are freshly done, the service is ok since you have to wait for your request as the Casitas are separate to each other.

We went out for dinner, sadly, the restaurants are a bit far from CW. Breakfast was superb, we, boys, upgraded our breakfast from set to buffet for an additional fee of P100.00. You have a great view of the Taal Volcano, they even have a telescope for you to use.

Just make sure you have a good company, you have nothing to do here when 1.) rains, 2.) you stay up late and 3.) tired of swimming.

If you are a nature loving people you might feel at home at this resort,it is actually locater inside a big rolling hills subdivision with lots of 3 storey vacation homes. The clubhouse commands the best view of Taal lake, inside of it you will find the restaurant, gym, indoor pool and beauty parlor. The hotel rooms are divided into 2 category, the casitas which i personally prefer is a little bit older but with a nice touch with nature cause each unit are surrounded by trees, great for family bonding, the hotel room are quite new with standard ammenities you find in any hotel. The food at the restaurant is forgettable but the view is fantastic and the ambience is good, since you have no other choice except if you choose to drive to tagaytay to have a meal and back for 1 hour travel time. This resort is open only to members at first and for promotional purpose it is open for internet booking,if i be able to get discounted rates again, definitely i 'll comeback.

Room Tip: Casitas rooms are bigger suitable for families and hotel wings are very new with better aircon.

My family stayed in their big Casita. There were 2 double beds and a sofa bed so the room was quite spacious. But their aircon was obviously old and not well maintained. In effect, the room temperature was hot even after their maintenance guy came over to check on it.

Since the resort was far away from restaurants, we decided to give the in-house restaurant a try for dinner and how we regretted it. Service was very slow and the food was not good at all, even very expensive.

Good thing the resort had a heated indoor pool. We just maximized our stay by swimming there.

I don't think we'll stay there again unless if they improve their restaurant and facilities.

we booked this hotel through a group buying site. Price is ok,location is a 30 minute drive from tagaytay. The room was huge, can accommodate at least 6-8 people in the room. The hotel resort has casitas, but we were given a room in their 3-4 storey hotel. It was kinda lonely, since there were only a few guests.Breakfast was not good enough for the price they charged us.

The Good
- It's not like your traditional hotels, you'll be closer to nature. You'll see a lot of trees and plants from your room window and terrace.
- My kids love the jacuzzi tab in the bathroom.
- They have an outdoor swimming pool, an indoor heated pool, a playground, a mini golf and a small theater.
- You can also go bowling, fishing, boating, etc.
- Several family bonding activities are available.
- Tagaytay's cool climate

The Bad
- The furnitures in the room are not well maintained - old TV, old lampshades, old bathtub...
- Your car needs to be in good shape in order to go here, otherwise, you'll encounter a big problem leaving this place because the road is very steep.
- The front desk area, where the dinning area, indoor pool, theater are located is too far from the Casitas. You need to use your car to go there.

Tips
- All guests need to use a hair cap when using the pool. They are selling this for P170 per piece.

Having two grown-up children who are both working can be a challenge when planning vacations. It is often difficult to synchronize their vacation leave, so there we were, just a few days before Christmas and still without a firm confirmation from our daughter on whether her holiday leave was approved.
You can imagine how frustrated I was when everything was fully booked by the time we had our schedules down pat just a few days before Christmas. Tagaytay hotels were fully booked so we grabbed Canyon Woods, just outside Tagaytay when I stumbled upon it while surfing the Net for holiday hotel possibilities.
We didn't have much expectations--the place was definitely cheaper than most Tagaytay hotels though the reviews were good. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be: the hotel property was huge--with a clubhouse, hotels, residential-style lodges and casitas by the lagoon. It was very clean, airy and green, like a smaller version of Baguio and Camp John Hay, only nearer Manila, about 2.5 hours drive on holiday traffic.

Our room was spacious, with two double beds and a sofa bed, comfortable enough for four adults. There was a balcony overlooking the lagoon, a kitchen with ref and coffee/tea kettle, a bathtub-jacuzzi, dining table and chairs, and a most wonderful view of the lagoon and surrounding greens. We kept the curtains open so we could enjoy the feeling of being in the middle of the woods, with occasional wild birds breaking the view. There were also ducks on the lagoon, fishing is allowed, there's an indoor heated pool and an outer pool, golf, and clubhouse activities like bowling, billiards, massage, etc.

The dinner buffet was value for money although the breakfast could do with more varieties and better choices. But the staff was courteous and pleasant, and service was quick, both in the check-in and check-out. Well, except for the woman operator who forgot to relay our message to the household staff and the front desk, so we had to tip the guy who brought in an extra bed all the way to our casita (on a bicycle!) despite our cancellation request coursed to the operator earlier.

The nature trail though was disappointing. We had planned to do a nature trek after breakfast but there wasn't much to see, nor much of a trail to speak of. We wound up sitting by the lagoon, bird-watching and duck-watching and just enjoying the cool weather and the surrounding greens until it was time to check out

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, brief though it was. The place was very photogenic, the weather was pleasantly cool and the ambience very peaceful and relaxing. We plan to go back--and soon!

Room Tip: The casitas overlooking the lagoon have excellent views
