It can be very nice to sit outside the Britannia on a warm evening in the centre of Elterwater village. We are always surprised by how many people who also enjoy the fresh air still smoke so when we want to eat we usually book a table (essential to book ahead at times to get a table) in the lovely little dining room.
We had the local venison steak which was really tasty and very good and the Cumberland sausage and mash also very good.
Staff are hard working but we have always found them to be very pleasant freindly and helpful even when it is very busy. They will do their best to be adaptable. Full marks to them for keeping calm - when we were there two biggish groups of people who had booked just didn't turn up and did not contact the Britannia. We can all be quick to judge at times and there may have been an emergency for both groups which meant at the last minute they couldn't be there. On the face of it however, not to make contact just looks inconsiderate of them to both the pub and those potential diners who were earlier turned away.
Our two course meal for the two of us with a couple of drinks was about £47. 10% is added for the personal service to your table in the dining room. This is well advertised and, particualrly when it is busy, we are happy to pay this for being waited on by friendly smiling staff.
