“Great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

We spent a week here in September and had a wonderful holiday. Beautifully clean and tidy garden and pool. Nice balcony with sea view and great sunsets. Gabbi was so kind and helpful with lots of tips for nice beaches and places to visit, couldn't fault it.

We spent there 1 week summer 2013 and we already booked same place for next summer! First time ever we'll come back to same place.

Peaceful place, near Chania (<15min/7km by car). If you want to stay here, you need rental car because markets/restaurants/beaches etc. are not in walking distance (for small kids), but same time it's fare away from tourist places with too many tourists. Near airport, some other has complained about aircraft noise during nights, we didn't hear anything during nights.

Great value for your money, at least we had an apartment with 2 air-conditioned bedrooms for very reasonable price. Apartment was clean and beds were ok. There wasn't oven or microwave oven in our kitchen but we didn't miss those at all. We love local food, you can eat microwave dinners elsewhere. Pool was clean and there were enough sunbeds and chairs. Hotel has only 11 rooms, so there are not too much people like sometimes in big hotels' pool, and you can always find parking place.

Gabi, local contact person, visited hotel every day, she was very helpful and gave us useful tips you can't find from normal tourist guides....local restaurants, beaches, "what do do" tips etc...Gabi also showed to us local bus timetables, and we visited once Chania by bus, so you don't necessarily need car everyday.

We liked best value for money, nice pool, Gabi/useful tips and local restaurants, kids liked least small TV ;-)

An unexpected surprise! The place does not have the luxuries of a 5 star hotel, but if you don't need a plasma tv screen and a 3 meters bathtub (in Crete, you don't!!) this is the perfect choice, all the other services are great. Rooms are really nice and comfortable, the place is extraordinarily clean and the swimming pool is cute, and clean. The location is not particularly attractive, average Greek town-aspect, yet better that Chania city and chaotic suburbs; just outside..10 min drive.. perfect location.
The owner, Gabi, is a wonderful person and we literally had no problems...at all! She helped us with every request we had: one of the best things about the place.
If ever back in Crete, definitely here.
Airplanes and barking dogs did not seem to be a big problem to us (two couples). Bathrooms are a little small, but there's everything you need, clean, nice and functional.

After some trepidation reading reviews on Booking.com (there have only been 5 reviews on trip advisor since 2011) we still went ahead and booked Villa Alexander. Very difficult to find, no signage on the property whatsoever and only address given is Main Street, Kalathas. So after asking a few people and driving around a lot we finally saw our name on a door at 6.30p.m. while parked outside the building. Gabby was there to greet us and show us our apartment. Great apartment, spacious, beautiful travertine tiles on the floor, however that is the end. The price paid for 6 nights (510 euro) is considered one of the cheaper around here but we had just come from Eastern Crete for 4 nights for 180 euros and enjoyed the apartment there immensely more. Back to Villa Alexander, the Televisions are in the bedrooms, very tiny and the only Engish speaking channel is hazy. Free good interenet is a plus. The beds are quite thin mattresses and ultra firm. Main bedroom bathroom very cramped in the shower/toilet area. Cannot open windows and doors a lot of the time due to either noise from neighbouring apartments or mosquitos, plus barking dogs and military planes flying overhead. Even with all doors closed and earplugs, we were still woken every morning by the neighbouring apartment. No privacy whatsoever out the front of the apartment, which faces the pool. Family orientated apartment, so not a lot of peace and quiet, kids in the pool a lot of the time jumping and splashing. Chairs in the apartment and outdoor seats quite uncomfortable (the plastic seats in previous accommodation more comfortable). We have been travelling for 7 weeks and have yet to be woken by noises from neighbours. You can hear the talking as if it were in your room. Very unhappy with this choice, as we were imagining relaxing here and it is not possible, so you go out a lot for this reason. Gabby was excellent however, giving us a lot of information about things to do she was the best thing about the stay. Cleaning service also good. Pool not nice enough to entice us to use it, however lovely sunsets to be seen from there. No reception and no means to pay by visa as no-one here, so this was another unusual complication. Would I stay again, definitely not. Will look next time we come for an area out of Chania away from the airport and not in a residential area with barking dogs, and also perhaps a place more suited to couples where there are more comforts to entice you to stay and enjoy your apartment. Previous apartment near Elounda very, very basic but so much more private, better views and almost half the price. Love the area though and would love to return to Crete.

Room Tip: We were in apartment 8 which has no privacy, there are other rooms which would have more.

We spent 5 wonderful days in Chania, especially in Hotel Villa Alexandrer. We can say that the service was impeccable and the girls at the hotel was very convenient.
We loved this place. Of course we will be there for the next summer.
You can see the beach from the hotel!! The fantastic sunset!! Generally view is fantastic.

The most important think is that you are 10' from Chania and 10' from the aeroport. And you can visit many small villages with good food quiet.

unconditionally recommend Villa Alexander Excellent...

Nice spacious and clean accomodation, quiet rural area by the sea, nice pool, perfect for the independent traveller who wishes to discover the beautiful area. The owner and staff made us feel very welcome, we loved it! Hope to be back next year... :-) Highly recommended in its price range!

Kalathas is 5 minutes from chania airport and 8 minutes from chania city (by car). Its near very nice beaches like kalatha, stavros and marathi. If you are a family this is the place to stay. spacious mezonette type, with living room and kitchen in the ground and 2 rooms in the 1st floor. Moreover magnificent sea view from balcony. The sea is 300 meters from the villa alexander. tThere is no breakfast so you have to do it yourself. There is a woman that comes every day to see if you are allright or you need anything.

Room Tip: All rooms are in front of the pool and the seaview.
