“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Agree with other reviews, this place has great value for money! It's situated on a peaceful and idyllic little hilltop only 10 minutes walk from the sea and a short scooter ride from Lamai Beach. There's free pick up service from the ferry terminal if you stay for at least three nights and there's also free drop off service to Lamai beach if you don't rent your own vehicle. Angus helped us rent a scooter (300 baht per day, but there's also cheaper ones), which is the best scooter we've had so far in Thailand. Both him and Hom have some very good tips on places to eat/drink, activities and sightseeing in Koh Samui in general.

Our room faced the pool and we had sea views from the balcony. The room itself was clean and spacious, had a fridge with a minibar (same prices as in the restaurant), hot shower, tv and dvd player. You can borrow dvd's for free in the restaurant, they had a lot of films to choose from. Perfect on a rainy day! All rooms have A/C, and ours worked very well. There's a computer available in the restaurant for using internet and free WiFi if you have your own laptop.

Angus and Hom and their staff are so friendly and helpful, and the place has a homely and relaxed atmosphere!

We've enjoyed our stay so much, and can definitely recommend it!

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful upon arrival. Angus had some good advice to give us about what to do and see. He helped us sort out our transfers to Koh Tao and the free shuttle around Lamai with great idea and proved to be really useful. The rooms, although clean were slightly outdated and could do with a bit of makeover. The pool was nice and overall we enjoyed our stay here.

The food at the restaurant was sub standard and I'd advise anyone to eat elsewhere as there are plenty of good restaurants around. It was a shame that when we left we had agreed an amount for transfers with Angus but on arrival at the pier it turned out to be more than agreed. Didn't appreciate Angus hanging up when we attempted to call him. Tainted an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Angus and his staff is very friendly and pleasant. The rooms are decent and clean. Excellent value.

We rented a scooter from the place that Angus recommended. Someone tipped it over while it was parked on the north side of the island, and it got major damage. Angus took care of the scooter company and we only paid 1000 baht for repair - We had in advance stopped at a couple local mechanics and they told us damage like that would easily cost 3000-5000 baht to repair, so I was very pleased with the results. I know it still sounds like a scam, but compared to other stories of damaged scooters, I'd say the end result was very good.

Apart from the damage, we were able to visit all the places we wanted on Samui with this scooter, it was a really great visit.

The recommendations that we followed from Angus were all spot-on, but we did decide to go for a smaller motorboat tour of the marine national park, and I think that was a better choice than the one he recommended on a large tourist boat, but obviously we didn't try his so we don't know for sure.

I can definitely recommend staying here if you're on a budget and want good basics in place.

We booked our stay here on the back of the reviews we found on the internet. I was a bit skeptical but took the chance anyway. It was an excellent choice. From being picked up at the airport, to the room, food, advice and having a social drink in the bar nothing was too hard for Angus and Hom. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend Samui Reef View Resort to anyone wanting value for money accommodation.

Where do I begin? Samui Reef View Hotel is great, just great.
This is a family run hotel, and being so far from home, we couldn't have been made to feel any more at home. Angus and Hom, along with their staff and family, do a superb job of running this place. Angus - the manager - greeted us as we arrived and showed us around our room, a spacious bedroom with a large private bathroom: comfortable beds, clean all round and exactly what we needed. The air conditioning in our room was brilliant too, much needed in 35'C heat. Also, be prepared to be accompanied by some harmless geckos in your room, they sneak in when you're not looking. There is a TV and DVD player in the room as well, and in the restaurant there are hundreds of DVDs you can borrow,
There is a nice, clean pool and sunbeds next to the restaurant/bar area (where there is a free pool table, which I made good use of). Whilst in Lamai, we didn't eat anywhere other than here. The food was fantastic. One side of the menu is food we would have at home, which was so welcome after a week in Bangkok, and the other side is lovely Thai food. I wish we'd had more time to try more. The cleanliness is exceptional, as is the service. (I recommend the Thai Red Curry and the green, too).
There is free Wifi which is speedy, and also a computer in the restaurant area if you need. Angus was very helpful when it came to needing something printed off as well.
Some people may have the niggle with the location - if you want to be able to open your doors and stroll ten feet on to the beach, you might be better off staying elsewhere - because Reef View is about a 5 minute drive from Lamai Beach. This was absolutely no problem for us because Angus and Hom are happy to do shuttle runs anytime between 8am and 8pm - they also gave us a Thai phone for calling them if we needed picked up: such a kind service. If you want to rent a car or bike, Angus will happily organise that for you, as he will do for any tours you'd like to do.
This has become a long review already, yet I feel like I could go on all day, However, I'll leave it at this so you can find out for yourself how brilliant a place this is to stay. If and when I'm ever back in Koh Samui, this will be my first stop and for much longer.
(PS. Thanks again, Angus, Hom and co.)

Room Tip: We stayed in room 7, and even though that was next to a small side road, we heard nothing and slept...

Me and my girlfriend arranged with Lomprayah transfer from Nathon pier to Samui Reef View. Angus (the owner) reimbursed us for the transfer! Angus also did the same for our trip onwards to Krabi.

Samui Reef View is a little out the way from the tourist areas. it works out very nice but very quiet depending on what company/privacy you want. The only way to get anywhere else is to either rent a motorbike (200 baht a day) which I highly recommend or use Angus' free shuttle service to and from Lamai. The shuttle service is only to Lamai, so if you want to go elsewhere like Chaweng or see the Big Buddha then rent a motorbike.

The room we stayed in was very spacious, with air con, TV, DVD player and fridge with minibar type selections that are the same price as the restaurant. There is a huge amount of DVD's to choose from in the restaurant, so if you fancy a relaxing day, it's great to have a nose through.

The swimming pool is great to chill out in/around but be aware, there is no shade from the sun. If sun bathing make sure to have plenty of sun cream!

Western food is pretty standard but the Thai choices are delicious, especially the pad thai and coconut curry.

Samui Reef View was a great place for us to relax for a week and recharge the traveling batteries. A bit on the expensive side for backpackers but more suited for a lengthy holiday.

We stayed here for 3 weeks, totally happy with this resort, all of the staff were very friendly and willing to help us as a family. This is a very nice clean quite family run resort with a great swimming pool which both of my children really enjoyed.
We will be booking again, when we return for our next annual holiday,as i feel i never need to go any where else.
Well done to all
