“Fabulous setting and beautiful food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

We asked our hotel to recommend a local authentic Thai restaurant to us and on arrival we didn't like what we saw (opposite strip joint), therefore, we decided to take a chance and go the Banyan Tree resort and ask to dine in their restaurant. We knew there was a nice restaurant there as it was advertised in the magazine on the plane over from Bangkok.

Anyway, it was a truly beautiful setting and the Banyan Tree resort itself is incredible, and upon arrival the reception called a golf buggy to drive us up to the restaurant. We then took a 3 minute buggy ride to the restaurant up a hill via the windy little paths and arrived at the cliff top setting. It was dark so we couldn't see down the cliff but you still got the sense of the scale and positioning.

We we seated outside on the balcony and from then on the whole experience was magical. The food was beautiful and they served little extras which we didn't expect in between courses and also as an appetiser. We ordered cocktails to start with and a bottle of wine, and although not cheap they were also not as expensive as you might expect from a high class resort. The wine was around £40 and the cocktails around £6 each, however, the food was not that expensive and we ordered 2 starters and 2 main courses which came with a choice of rice, and the whole meal came to around £120. I know that's expensive overall but it was a wonderful eating experience and occasion to remember.

We then took a golf buggy back to reception and then ordered our taxi back to our resort. Fabulous!

“Great service and great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

Ate here on the first night of two at Banyan Tree Samui.
Lovely location perched up on the steep slopes of the cove in which the resort sits.
Acess to the restaurant was by buggy and we were seated overlooking the bay.
Quiet setting, very tranqil.
Food was very good and well priced. Not amazing but certainly very good.
Service was superb, waitress very knowledgeable and friendly.
If you are staying at the Banyan Tree its definately worth booking into Saffron.

“A gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013 via mobile

Saffron matches all the positive reviews. We celebrated our wedding anniversary there n the food n service were superb. The chef went around to say hello n when we asked him to make recommendations, he suggested that we order the starter platter, green curry chicken n stir fry vegetables. He reassured us that it would be sufficient for us. And he was right.

I must write about the complimentary appetizers - rice crackers served with 3 types of Thai condiments. These were so wonderful that I asked for second helping n they served. Next I must talk about the rice - they offered a choice of 4 different of rice - saffron white rice, coconut white rice, lemon grass white rice n brown rice. They were cooked to firm n al dente.

The restaurant served lime sorbet to cleanse your palate before they served the main course.

Ambience wise it offers nice view of the lighted villas perching on top of the cliffs.

Service was impeccable n the waitress gave the impression that they were really happy to serve you and to enhance your dining experience. They were warm, friendly n efficient.

My husband n I are impressed with Saffron for ending our special dinner with a heart-shaped chocolate cake and handmade chocolates. They also presented us with a photograph taken of us at the restaurant for keepsake.

The damage: 2200 baht n it's definitely not expensive for such a memorable dining experience.
