“2nd Visit within 2 years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

As Bangkok still feel unsafe to visit.
My family decided to stay at the biggest Thailand island again. We stayed 5 nights in Banyan Tree and 3 nights at four seasons on the opposite side of the island.
July is rainy seasons for Samui, the best month of visit will be Jan to Apr according to villa host
As a return guest I got a better seaview villa than last visit. The villa layout is the best, i would say it is better than Four Seasons, although the latter have a bigger in villa pool, room and outdoor rest area like cabana. but i really like the living room long bench sofa where you could stay and play with family before you go to bedroom.
new value added services is i got a mobile phone which i could call my villa host at anytime anywhere around the island. That is very impersive, you dont need to buy a sim card for local use.
Food quality is great, i like the variety choice of breakfast at Edge and dining at Saffrons is amazing. Beaches side Sands snack is just great and reasonable.
Kid club facilities need to enhance and other recration may considers insufficient such as a tennis court, increase non-motor sport at beaches
Staff are friendly and helpful, i would rank 4 out of 5, better english training is required.

Room Tip: Room near the beaches is amazing

Dear Niceman2005,

Thank you for choosing Banyan Tree as part of your family getaway on Samui. It was a pleasure to welcome you back and be of service to you again.

I am delighted to read that you found the view from your villa to be superb and the overall design to be suitable for relaxing. It is also great that you felt the personal mobile phone provided was beneficial and a value service to you during your stay.

Our dining outlets feature a variety of offerings and I am pleased that you enjoyed the cuisine on offer whether it be at the breakfast buffet at The Edge; the Thai delicacies at our signature restaurant, Saffron; or the western and Asian fare available at our beachside restaurant, Sands.
I am glad to inform you that we are already in the process of upgrading our Kids’ Club and relocating it nearby our beachfront lawn where we anticipate launching with a new set of activities for our young guests. I will take your comment about additional beach activities into consideration and have already shared with our Recreation Manager for review.

Niceman2005, thank you once again for staying with us and I hope that you will consider us again should you choose to return to Samui.

With kind regards,

Having taken a while to decide upon a resort for our stay in Koh Samui, I can categorically state that we made the right choice as we were not disappointed with the Banyan Tree, in fact it is one of the best resorts in which we have stayed and I am quite mystified to read some negative comments on this site.
The villas are stunning and we had a wonderful ocean view. The friendliness of the staff who were always obliging and willing to help - nothing was ever too much trouble and the house-keeping staff provided an excellent service. Thai meals at the Saffron restaurant were delicious and we were never disappointed with the food and the helpfulness of the staff in particular Sao, with her big smile and lovely manner. However, wine is a little pricey at all restaurants in the resort.
Travellers need to be aware as I am not sure this is mentioned on the website that to get around the resort (depending where your villa is) you need to book a buggy. This was not a problem for us and the buggy usually turned up within 5 minutes - it was quite an experience.
We had a wonderful time, felt completely chilled by the end of our 7 night stay and would highly recommend this resort - book now!

Dear Alick9,

Thank you for choosing Banyan Tree Samui for your travels. I am pleased that you had a rejuvenating stay and enjoyed the comfort of your villa overlooking our private bay and the Gulf of Thailand.

It is fantastic that you found our service to be excellent. I have already shared your comments with our team as it provides added motivation to continue delivering the highest standards of service. As a Banyan Tree property, we take pride in providing warm, attentive service and it is great that your Villa Attendants, our waitress, Sao, at Saffron, and our entire team were able to cater to your each and every need.

Kindly note that wine is subject to a 100% bottle tax in Thailand which drives up the prices on our drink list. I regret that this was not more in line with your expectations, but trust that it did not detract from the overall relaxation had during your stay.

Alick9, I would like to thank you once again for choosing us and we would be delighted to welcome you back and to deliver another holiday that is equally memorable.

With kind regards,

Loved everything about the banyan tree. The villa was very private and the views are amazing to wake up to. Upon arrving, we didnt leave the resort for the first 2 days. I was most impressed with our villa host Obbey, she was amazing and very hands on. She took great care of us and no request was any trouble to her. She really made our stay much more enjoyable and stress free.

The buffet breakfast had many options but very little to our liking. Would have preferred a more international continental buffet option. The spa was great although slightly over priced but very relaxing.

Room Tip: most rooms have a great view of the bay or oceans.

Great place to relax, with each villa having its own private pool, jacuzzi and a villa host who you could call upon anytime! You could walk down to the beach equipped with sun loungers, four post curtained enclosure, with frequent waiter services. A great place for family to relax, snorkel, body board, kayak and wind surf, free for all the guests. Staff are very hospitable and food is excellent. You could learn some cooking, have a massage at the spa and enjoy an award winning "Rainforest Walk". If you are single you could get married by the beach!

Room Tip: Ask for beach view, in any case all villas have good views.

My wife and i are checking out of the banyan tree today after celebrating our honeymoon.

This hotel is seriously amazing, we have loved every minute of our stay and the hotel is highly recommended to any couples/ family's wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle and to seriously relax.

The food, rooms, spa and views have been outstanding. However by far the hotels greatest attribute Is the service, all the staff have gone out of their way to ensure our stay was perfect, in particular are villa host Obey who has arranged everything for us throughout or stay.

Thank you to all the staff at the banyan tree for making our stay so enjoyable !!!!

We were in a girlfriends-getaway, so four of us booked the two room Sanctuary Villa for three nights. Few days before departure, Banyan Tree sent us a list requesting us to fill up preferred scent, type of pillows, additional requests (we asked for a yoga mat, linen bed sheets with Lavendar scent and under 'special occasion' - celebration of two July babies' birthdays.)

Needless to say, we were all hyped up when we arrived. Excellent check in reception, fantastic views from the lobby, warm welcome and rooms were great. You could see dust collected around the lights, but we could live with that. Villas were spacious, impressed that the water in the jacuzzi was actually warm throughout the day!

Villa host was helpful, attentive so I am not sure where things (communications with housekeeping) started to go wrong. The yoga mat and lavendar scent never arrived till Day 2, linen sheets arrived on Day 3 (after several reminders) and we joked that there is a waiting list for these. We arrived back in Singapore before realising that we didn't 'celebrate' our birthdays with Banyan as there were no cards nor minor gestures that came with birthday greetings. All I have to say is, if the resort is unable to provide the frills on a timely basis and as confirmed, then don't offer them to your guests.

Other than this major gripe, the resort is pure bliss. Set aside about 10-15 minutes before your appointment time, as you need additional time to wait for the buggy service. You will enjoy the rides up and down, the greenery and the friendliness of all staff. We did complimentary yoga and aqua classes (best to book in advance at the spa), all good. Massages were great as well and staff at the beach was really attentive in terms of offering towels and bottles of water and opening of umbrellas, etc.

We appreciated that our villa host acceded to our request of having more than four bottles of water. She ordered a dozen for us, which again on Day 2, we needed to plead for housekeeping to send it after several hours of our host confirming she has put in the request.

Food is of high quality, good spread at breakfast with international offerings. We dined at the Thai restaurant, Saffron, on our last night. Set meal was alright, service was good but found it amusing that they charge water, while they offered us extra at no cost in the rooms.

We wished we had more time to enjoy the facilities. We had a good stay, but not sure if we will return for the price tag we paid (THB 50,000 a night) and the hiccups that we have encountered.

Dear Bluelizabelle,

Thank you for your recent stay with us and for choosing our resort for your getaway with friends. I appreciate you taking the time to offer your comments and to detail the highlights and shortcomings of your stay. Through your feedback, we shall be better able to deliver the highest standards of service, one of the trademarks of our brand, to our future guests.

I am pleased to read that you found our property to be beautiful and your Sanctuary Pool Villa to be comfortable and relaxing. It is great that you were able to enjoy the various activities we have on offer including our complimentary yoga and aqua exercise classes.

Our Banyan Tree Spa Samui continues to receive rave reviews and I am glad that you were able to enjoy a massage at the hands of our specially-trained therapists.

It is fantastic that you enjoyed the variety of cuisine on offer at our dining outlets. Our culinary team delivers a wealth of menu options including the western and Asian fare to be found at our breakfast buffet at The Edge as well as the extensive selections available at Sands and Saffron.

I regret to learn of your disappointment with our failure to deliver on your special requests stated in your pre-arrival correspondence. Our team takes pride in effective communication and catering to our guest’s individual needs to provide a personalized and memorable stay. For this reason, we sincerely apologize that we failed to meet your expectations and that you unnecessarily had to follow-up with your Villa Host in order to get the items you had informed us of prior to your arrival.

These instances were obvious shortfalls on our behalf and we wish to assure you that we have taken heed of your valuable comments and have already applied these regrettable incidents into our training to ensure that our staff remain more attentive to our guests needs.
Bluelizabelle, thank you once again for your stay with us. We hope these few incidents you experienced do not mar your overall perception of our brand and we do hope you will honor us with a return visit to our property and allow us the opportunity to show you the improvements we have made by delivering the usual high standards that you both deserve and should rightfully expect.

With kind regards,

We stayed in Banyan Tree in Koh Samui during our family summer holiday. It is an exceptional hotel from many point of views. The rooms were spacious, had great designs and were really practical except for the closet that was rather small for the size of the room. The private in villa pool was the best part. We would swim any time of day and night with complete privacy. We stayed in Deluxe room for 4 days which was lower and closer to the forest and then moved to Royal Banyan with a breathtaking panoramic view to the hilltops and ocean. Our Villa was number E03 for those who want a great view.

Each room had their own butler. On arrival we were provided with a mobile phone and the direct number to our butler whom we could call for literally anything and everything.Staff were beyond helpful and friendly. Special thanks to our villa butler was Obby and one of the beach staff called Banana who was very nice to the kids and keeping them busy all the time.
The beach was a bit rocky. Not really perfect for swimming but good for kayaking and other activities.
The spa is out of this world with the most professional staff and best treatments. Hotel also offers free classes. I attended Yoga and Tai Chi and also went on morning walk and bird watching. All amazing with qualified instructors and guides.

Kids were highly entertained and not bored. We will for sure go back at any time with no hesitation. We had great unforgettable time .

Room Tip: Ask for a room as high up in the hill as possible for a better view (and less insects!)

Dear Fatima N,

Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your feedback. It is always a pleasure to read comments such as yours as it reaffirms our team’s commitment to provided the highest standards of service and memorable stays for our guests.

It is great that you found your pool villas to be comfortable and well-appointed, and that you had a enjoyable time swimming in your spacious, private pool. Our Deluxe Pool Villa offers a peaceful escape nestled in the lush gardens of our resort with convenient access to the beach, spa and The Edge while our Royal Banyan Pool Villa offers a similar villa design, but with stunning views of our private bay and the Gulf of Thailand. It is fantastic that you were able to create a nice balance of both villa types during your stay.

Our team works tirelessly to cater to the individual needs of each of our guests and it is wonderful to learn of your satisfaction with the service from your Villa Host, Obby; our Recreation Attendant, Banana; and our entire team. I have already shared your comments with them.

While the seabed of our private bay does feature rocks, it can easily be navigated and enjoyed at most times depending on the tide. We provide protective beach shoes should our guests require them and our team can advise on the best and easiest way to enjoy the cool water. With a variety of activities on offer, I am glad that you were able to have a relaxing time beachside and in the water.

The tender touch of the therapists at our Banyan Tree Spa Samui has become world famous in Asia and beyond, and I am glad you were able to unwind during a treatment. Various complimentary classes and activities are provided for our guests and I am pleased that you were able to partake in these and to allow our team to be of service to you.

Fatima N, thank you once again for choosing our resort as the destination for your family getaway. It would be our sincere pleasure to welcome you back in the future and to provide you with another, equally-memorable stay.
