“Unremarkable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

Our stay here was at the very end of our Thailand trip so we already experienced several other accommodations throughout the country and arrived with proper expectations. We booked Deluxe Beachfront Bungalow and were surprised it was not a bungalow at all but one larger house having four beachfront facing rooms with semi-private verrandas. Booking site also declared this is for 2 people but we found a second smaller bed next to double. Bravo for giving us a bit of dorm feeling. Finally, light switches and paintings are all covered by plastic foil... this is your top/most expensive offer, really disappointing.

Front staff was the most reserved we saw on our trip. Not rude or impolite, just extremely cool and detached. I find it incredible that they could not find me a bottle opener at 11PM. "We do not have it"... right, I'd rather you told me you are too lazy to walk across to the restaurant. When leaving, they offered to arrange us a taxi transfer. No other option or willingness to help, no ferry schedules. After having experienced some fabulous Thai hospitality, this was a real downer for us.

On the positive side, location is great, even 500m up or down the beach would be much less convenient. You are exactly 5 minutes walk from shops, bars, market and McDonalds. (Semi) private verranda with your own beach chairs is invaluable. Also the beach is really nice in this area, just perfect depth and of course sandy. Cleaned daily, there is no trash on the beach, some in the water.

A real shame, this place has a lot of potential but misrepresented itself as a much better value for money.

Stayed here for 2 weeks and loved it. Booked a garden view bungalow very nice & clean. Perfect location away from the main road right next to the beach. Very quiet area. Restaurants, a few bars & laundry service just down the road. A short 5 minute walk to all the action in town. Guests must register with the front desk, but there is no additional charge

We stayed at the Lamai Inn 99 recently with another couple in the Garden Bungalows. We were lucky to have detached bungalows which faced the small road, facing the reception. The road is not very busy and did not impact us at all. We found the rooms spacious, exceptionally clean, with air conditioning and small fridge. Sheets and towels changed regularly. Staff in reception were extremely efficient when we reported small issues, although I have to say that the girls didn't ever smile. Great beach location, not too busy.
Our favourite places to eat were the hotel restaurant (great presentation & food), Hat Bamboo restaurant on the beach to the left of the hotel, the two older guys were great characters (next to Bikini bar) and the food was very reasonable. Our real favourite for breakfast and lunch was a good walk along the beach to the left, past the lagoon but definitely worthwhile. It is called New Hut restaurant and the food is delicious and cheap with excellent staff. In the evening, most of the restaurants on the main strip were good, our favourite being Sri Yuen with red and white tablecloths. They serve the best Tom Yum soup but be careful to ask for just medium. We're used to hot food but their spicy was a little too much.
We took the Island Tour including monkeys (2), elephant trekking and all the exciting monuments (??) and also a boat trip to the Marine park which was excellent, staying for an hour or so on two islands. Bit hairy on the return trip on a very creaky leaking boat in a big thunderstorm but that only helped make the trip as there was much synchronised vomiting by many passengers.
My husband recommends Top Cats fishing as he caught two 50 pounders. Shame they charge 500bht each way for their taxi service as that is way over the market rate. Hotel arranged their car back to the airport for 800bht (200bht each) as we were catching a very early flight (6am).
All in all, highly rated accomodation and will most definitely return as soon as we can

Room Tip: Beach view bungalows are good as long as you can put up with music from nearby Swing bar on party ni...

These bungalows and motel units set amid tropical landscaping are on a little side road which parallels the beach. Definitely a plus to be off the noisy main street. The beach here is uncluttered with beach chairs and had more shade than anyplace we saw on Lamai beach. We stayed in both a bungalow and cheaper motel unit. Both were clean and comfortable. The bungalow had a spacious, pleasant veranda. Lots of shade from mature landscaping. Would definitely stay here again. The little street it is set on gets relatively little traffic and is quiet. Wifi worked ok. Beds were firm like all the beds we had in Thailand. Restaurant tip: We tried several of the seafood restaurants along the main street and found them to be mediocre. Finally found the nightly food market across from McDonalds and a short walk from here and had some very good cheap food there.

Before booking this hotel I spent many
many hours researching koh samui resorts and then Lamai to find the hotel which was right for us. We are a couple in our early 30s who like s bit of nightlife but mainly nice meals and a few drinks. A beach bungalow was essential to us and we also needed a family room for my dad, stepmom and sister who were meeting us from Australia.

We are delighted with our choice, the hotel cost was £360 for 6 nights, much cheaper than others we looked at with similar accomodation. The rooms are clean and functional and the beach bungalow does have the mod cons you would expect. The bungalow is worth it for the view alone as you have a completely uninstructed view of the sea. In tea of facilities it doesn't have a fancy pool or restaurant but what it does have has been perfect for our needs.

I like the location also as its it's 5 mins walk from the main shopping/restaurants so is quiet but with everything right on your doorstep. For what we paid, we are more than happy with what we have got from Lamai 99. As I said, I looked at many others first but this hotel was £200 cheaper at least and in my view the location and beach front view are the best along the waterfront.

If you are considering this hotel, I would go for it, but pay for a beach front bungalow if possible.

Rooms are clean and the motel rooms in back are excellent value (1000THB). Beautiful stretch of Beach on a quiet side street. Around the corner across the street from McDonalds is the nightly food stalls. Excellent inexpensive food! If we were to come back here we'd stay here.
