“Nice place but a little run down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Stayed 5D4N at the X2 Samui with my spouse in early July'13. Reservation was easy and we were told someone will be waiting for us at the airport arrival area. When we arrived at the airport arrival hall, the hotel staff was holding a placard with my name on it and greeted us courteously. He helped to load our luggage to the back of the van (we were the only couple there to pick up) and off we went for the 40 mins journey to the resort which was located in the Hua Thanon district. Before we start the journey, the hotel staff gave each of us a bottle of cold mineral water which was refreshing. The hotel staff drove in a careful and moderate pace to the hotel. Once we arrived at the hotel lobby, we were greeted by the Receptionist and Concierge “Sawadeeka” and welcomed us to the resort. While I was filling up the registration form, they bought along cold towels with a strong smell of herbal Spa and served us lime juice as the welcome drink. Once all the registration was completed, we were told to wait for a few minutes while the hotel staff went to make one final check at the villa to make sure everything was in order before escorting us in to the villa. We stayed at a single bedroom villa. The villa is very spacious and has a private pool with water fall.
On one side of the pool, there are some green Japanese bamboo tree planted along one of the wall. However, this was not an idle tree to be planted next to a swimming pool is Japanese bamboo tend to shed a lot of leaves. As a result of this, the pool was littered with bamboo leaves the next morning and we had to call the concierge to send someone over to clean the pool. Besides leaves, there was also small beetles in the pool.
Room condition was nice but a bit run down. The villa was surrounded by a 8ft high wall segregating from the next door villa offering ample privacy. In the villa exterior, there are 2 beach beds, a coffee table with 2 chairs at the porch. Unfortunately there are stains on one of the beach bed. Upon entering the villa interior building, a queen size bed is in the middle of the room. The bed is soft and comfortable. It has an open door shower concept and a deep stone-made bath tub. The vanity top comes with a rectangular basin and toiletries that you can normally find in a 5-star hotel. The villa also has 2 big cabinets with a small digital safe.
The villa air condition is rather noisy and needs servicing. Apart from that, most of the hotel staffs are very polite and courteous, greeting us “Sawadeekap” whenever we bump into them. The 4K restaurant has a nice ambient setting with comfortable sofas setup on an elevated stage. A few of the sofas are front sea facing giving a very romantic setting for couple to spend their time together during their meal. The restaurant served a mix of contemporary western cuisine with some local thai flavor. We had our dinner on the 1st night at the restaurant and the food was really good and presentable. Most of the food come served in the fine dining plate which is big and heavy.
The resort is surrounded by a lot of tall coconut trees and is very cooling. The atmosphere is quiet which is excellent if you're looking for a place to relax.

Went to X2 with wife for our honeymoon getaway. Portions of X2 is being renovated currently such as the spa and certain villas. Like the exclusiveness of the villa with its personal pool. But fallen leaves from the grown trees into the pool could pose a problem. The room is spacious, but the warerobe seem to be worn. like the open concept of the shower & bathtub. Food from 4k resturant is not too shabby, breakfast is unique in the sense of personalised egg selection & main course menu which I had their grass noodles on all mornings of our stay. Flies during the breakfast is a challenge which X2 should improve upon. X2 is remotely located from other resorts but security is controlled via the main entrance. The main pool is well maintained with a deeper end of 2.4m. Overall, we both enjoyed our stay very much and will love to go back X2 to eat breakfast & stare at the open sea where the skies meet the sea via a thin fine line...

Greetings from the X2 Samui team; So glad to hear you enjoyed your honeymoon stay with us. X2 Samui is well known as being one of the most romantic destinations in all of Thailand, as there are many unique aspects that attract couples to our resort. Some you have picked up on such as the privacy of the private pool villas offer, the super open bathroom concept with the large and luxurious granite bathtub and of course the unique X2 champagne breakfast and our A La Carte Eggs selection.

The beachfront location of our 4K restaurant adds to the overall experience for sunrise breakfast and of course romantic evening meals. It is not without its challenges though, and we will attend to the issue of flies you mention immediately. Delighted to hear that we will have the pleasure to welcome you back sometime in the future.
Best wishes from the X2 Samui Team!

The X2 is in the process of being renovated. While we were there, the central walkway was being redone and a few of the villas were also being remodelled. Our overall feeling was that the place was in need of some tender loving care. The villas are a good size (big bathroom) but felt a little worn. While staff did try, we had the sense that that manager of the resort was not on top of things.

The big plus for us was the very deep and large pool. It was very quiet at the resort while we were there and we often felt we were the only ones using the pool. We were told there was a champagne breakfast but were only offered this on the last morning we were there. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the food at the restaurant 4K. We also loved our spa treatments.

We were there over a weekend and complained because we couldn't relax in the pool due to the drilling and sawing next to us. Our bad luck being there during a renovation. If X2 aspires to be five star, it needs to pay more attention to the little things - towels by the pool, garden around the villa pool needs to be tended to, better linens in the room, etc as well as the big things. A sign of a good hotel is not only how attentive the staff are but also how well the property is maintained. For its price category, X2 doesn't quite deliver. Perhaps it will in the future once the renovations are done.

Many thanks for your constructive comments in regards to your recent stay with us. Indeed you are correct, the resort was being upgraded and improved, a great much of it was already done by the time you came to us, but as you saw yourself, some of the villas were still being remodeled.

Most of these issues you experienced have now been completed. The new manager has attended to those small personal touches you speak of with pool towels, drinks by the pool and controlling general maintenance issues.

You closing comment could not be more accurate, and now the resort is under new management and renovations have been done if you were to come back you would enjoy a totally different experience.
We look forward to welcoming you back to our design hotel soon.

Reading the recent reviews makes me wonder if I stayed at the same place. They are currently renovating the place, so there is a bit of noise during the day but not enough to disturb you from napping or relaxing.

The staff were friendly and helpful. My sisters and I were there to celebrate a birthday and they were nice enough to bring us a birthday cake. It was stated on one of the cards left on the table that they will clean the room when you ask them to. Like in our case where we only left the villa once the 5 days we were there.

The only thing I didn't like about the place was that it was too far away from everything. They do provide a shuttle but if you decide to stay longer and take a taxi back then it does cost quite a bit. I would suggest renting a car or a scooter if you were to stay here, just so it would be easier to travel around the island.

Definitely would come back here the next time I'm in Koh Samui,

Greetings from the X2 Samui team;
and many thanks for taking time to write a review about your stay with us. Delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. It is true to say that many reviews we have had in recent months are perhaps not entirely accurate as you have seen for yourself. Yes upgrade work was being done but it was of a minimal disturbance and the resort is in no way as run down as some would have you believe. X2 Samui is now looking refreshed and even better than ever!
We look forward to welcoming you back to our design hotel soon.

The X2 has a nice minimalistic design, but .. maintainance is also minimalistic. What happened to this place? It looks worn out and a kind of dirty. Yes they are still renovating, but the total lack of maintainance can be seen everywhere. In the room, the curtains are old and worn out and even don't close completely anymore. Water taps are rusty, the toilet smells and so on. The private pool is covered with leaves and they don't clean it on a daily basis, not even after 3 days! Actually you cannot use it. Is this supposed to be a 5-star resort? Well, it isn't. Staff is not so friendly, restaurant staff not professional, quite rude actually.
The resort provides free mountain-bikes, but you can't use them: the tires are empty and the bike is rusty, even the chain! Very bad.
It seems as if the owner has a nice hobby: architecture, and built this fashionable design resort, but totally forgot to maintain it and keep it in good shape. Quite a disaster.
The price is far to high for this aged, poor quality hotel. There are so many nice resorts on Koh Samui for even a lower price, you'd better look around first before you decide to stay in X2.

I just stayed 3 nights . It is really out of my expectation. I will never come back again this hotel..
If I had choice, I would leave at second night. Okay, let me explain:

1) The beach of hotel is not fit for swimming. dirty beach and no sands but muddy swamp.
2) too many mosquitos in the room.....my son was bitten at face and arms
3) too may flies at the breakfast restaurant......I told to manager but manager said he was unable to control the flies...
4) only one shuttle bus per day. but they prepared many cars for you but charge you with 500Bht every time....

BTW, I bought it over groupon...
5) bad service quality...... professional but no heart warming.
6) facility is old and not in good shape.. The waterfall of swimming pool was in fault once ...
7) there was one hole at bedsheet...
8) Apple TV only appears when you requested...
9) many leaves at swimming pool of villa and the water is smelly ...

I spent one amazing week at X2 Samui. The villa was so confortable, quite, peacefull and up to our expectations. The staff was so kind to us and very helpful , especially the Hotel Manager who gave us some tips for Koh Samui area.
Even if there was small renovations around the swimming pool area, it doesn't occur any constraint, and we could easily have a good time enjoying the pool and the surroundings. In addition the resort was very clean, including rooms and swimming pool.
I advice this hotel to all couples who wants to spend time in a small paradise, it's a very beautiful place. I will definitely come back.
