Love this place! We stayed 10days of our 6wk vacation here. Everytime we are on the Big island we always come back. Love that they redid the rooms in a nice stone color. Service is always wonderful and night tennis was so much fun. Next time we'll stay longer. Food is priced right. We stayed at the Hilton a few days to mix things up and will never do that again.

The Fairmont Orchid is a beautiful hotel with great service and hospitality. The views are incredible from almost anywhere on the property. The pool is large and heated, and open 24 hours which is wonderful if you're a night/early morning swimmer. The lagoon is also nice and warm (salt water) and is completely safe. The few restaurants that the hotel has are great. I would highly recommend Brown's Beach House for a nice dinner. You're right by the beach so you have a great view of the sunset. For coffee and breakfast lovers, Brown's Deli is also a great place to go.There are only a few downfalls to this wonderful hotel. Each hotel room requires $500 down payment, and anything you spend at the hotel comes from that. The stores (with the exception of one) contain insanely high prices. Another less than satisfactory detail is the rooms. They do not come with any kind of kitchen appliances except for a fridge. This can be a problem if you want to cook something or reheat something. But all in all, it's a wonderful hotel that I would definitely recommend for people who are willing to pay for it.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the South tower on the 3rd floor if you want a good view

Green turtles on the beach, beautiful beach fronted pool, gorgeous grounds with waterfalls and plants aplenty.

Fantastic supermarket very close by offering hot deli take out, great range of sushi etc - we often therefore self catered breakfast and either lunch or dinner.

Don't rent snorkelling equipment from the hotel beach area - rip off. Go to Snorkel Bob's instead (a couple of minutes away by car)

Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff. Big rooms and lanai. Bathrooms are spacious. Beds are very comfortable. Quiet area. Appreciated the access to the beach without going through the lobby area. Scenic comfortable sitting areas throughout the hotel. The grounds are stunning, landscape is beautiful and so well maintained. Loved the family friendly outdoor movie night with popcorn! Great to have bottles of water each day. Nice to have free internet by being a member of their travel program. Nightly turn-down service was a nice touch, and liked that they replaced dirty towels at that time if needed. Beach area is nice with more than enough lounge chairs and lots of equipment to rent. Beautiful views.
My only complaints would be the daily fee for parking was high. And the wait for service at breakfast.

The property is nice and well decorated, but completely overrated with regards to overall experience. Cannot believe this is a 4.5 star resort. Rooms are not maintained well and clearly have been neglected. Bathtub was rusty and the toilet's septic tank consistenly made an annoying squeeking noise. Came back even after they tried to fix it.. Woke us up several nights. Room service dishes and silverware were filthy. The biggest issue for me was that only about 15% of the pool lounge chairs had umbrellas, with the rest completely exposed to the sun making a day by the pool or beach extremely uncomfortable. The pool and beach areas have cabanas that could be rented for $35-45 for the day, but the few by the pool were usually sold by 11am. Service varied by emloyee. Reception desk and valet were great, but the woman at beach rentals did not look happy to be there and gave us an attitude. The property itself is very nice however with a great location and scenic views. You can get this with other hotels though and pay less. Dissappointing for a Fairmont and will not be staying here again.

We returned to the Fairmont roughly one year after our last stay. What shall we say, for us one of the best resorts worldwide. Let's start with the room, the room are large, you don't pay for an extra bed, if you prefer a King + rollaway for a family of two adults and one 14 year old child. You get water bottles in the room, free Internet if you member of the frequent traveller program, and the even have adapter kits in the room to connect your iPad to the huge flat screen. The bathroom has an extra shower. We had a garden view room and looked over a huge area of summer residences but also a lot of green. The service of the complete hotel was very friendly and they really try to help and satisfy your need, not just talking. - Outstanding. One of the best breakfast buffets I ever had is also part of the resort restaurant offering, where you sit partly outside and can watch the wonderful landscape and if lucky see the ocean. The quality of the breakfast buffet is outstanding and again very friendly people everywhere. The Pool, which is more or less framed by the two hotel wings but still 200 feet away from the buildings is wonderful set in the green, has enough lounge chairs and is steps from the pacific. In addition there is a pool bar, but also a little deli at the pool, where you can by snacks. You can also get Cabanas on the pool, near the Ocean or at the beach bay, which is small bay as part of the bay where the Fairmont is located at. The beach is nice and you can have rental of equipment for your child with a fairly low "whole stay" fee, and you can rent whatever you want like paddle boards, kayak, surfboards, etc. every day as long as you want too. if you snorkel and leave the beach bay, you have no chance other than to snorkel with turtles, as one of the approx. 10 turtles is definite close by. And if you don't disturb them, they are fun to watch or just to watch the many other colorful fishes in the bay. So overall, a great place to be!
PS: There is a little mall in the hotel resort area next to the Fairmont resort, where the Hilton and Marriott is located, in this mall is a food court, in case you want to eat low budget fast food.

The Fairmont is a lovely hotel, but seemed to be short on staff during our stay. The buffet breakfast was included with our package, but waits of 15 to 30 minutes were required to get a table in the dining area. It was obvious that the staff was overwhelmed. Plenty of tables were available, but there was not enough staff to clean them! The buffet was very good once you were finally seated. The rooms are very nice with wonderful bathrooms. We had a garden view, with a very nice view of the waterfall. Many activities are offered, including various tours of the property each morning. Bikes were available on a first-come first-served basis. It was nice to explore the area on the bikes. The pool was quite nice with sufficient chairs for all of the guests -- and even several hammocks. The beach is nice, but small. And it is fun to see the Turtles in the special viewing area at the beach. The hotel is in a good location, close to the Kona airport and to the Waikoloa area where there are many wonderful shops and restaurants. A must do while on the Big Island is a trip to the Volcanoes National Park --spectacular.
