“Villa Art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

Just back from a week-long trip to lovely, monsoon-is-round-the-corner Goa. The first half was at Arco Iris. The villa is a visual story in timeless and contemporary grace, a stunning work of architectural art restored to prime glory, and then extended well beyond. A labor of love for the artist-in-residence, Beni, and her wonderful family. This is a home-stay experience incomparable in terms of ambience, hospitality, courtesy and company. If you get a chance to experience it, do not think twice. Just sign up.

A stay at the Arco Iris is not just a stay but an experience. Arco Iris is a charming house with classy interiors and spacious colorful rooms. We spent 2 beautiful days at Arco Iris and I must say that Bini and Ganesh did not host us like guests but treated us like family. I specially would like to thank Bini for making transport arrangements at a very short notice. She went out of her way to make us feel at home. From the cook, maid to the driver….everyone at the Arco Iris is courteous, genuine and helpful.
For the foodies out there…my husband thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Goan fish dish that was served for lunch and I can vouch for the veg food…it was nutrilicious. If you want to step back in time and live the idyllic Goan life then Arco Iris is the place.

Late in my feedback but me and my went to Goa in Dec'12 and stayed at Arcos. It was a blinder in choice and based totally on people's feedback. But what a choice...thanks all for their feedback...help us to make a right choice. Great place and awesome ambience. Though away from the beach but if you want to see the other life of goa...this is it. Totally different..away from all commercial activities..nice and warm people...never thought we will have this kind of experience. Thanks to all for your great hospitality...special mention to Fenni and the scooty..who beared our weights for 5 days nonstop...:)

Room Tip: Take anyone....you will love it

Ganesh, Benni and family were a dream - parents stayed at Arco Iris two years ago and couldn't recommend the place highly enough. Our experience was perfect. Arco Iris is a beautifully designed renovated colonial house right in the heart of the real Goa far away from package tours and beach resorts. Our days were spent exploring old Portuguese mansions, the local villages and deserted beaches. Ganesh and family were the perfect hosts and the food was out of this world. We're looking forward to our next visit!

Arco Iris, meaning "Rainbow" in Portuguese, is over a 100 year old, elegantly restored ,colonial house built on a sprawling, terraced, 2 acre property. Located in a quiet village called Curtorim, not very far away from Margao; we were lucky to find this when looking for Goan homestays. Something about the location appealed to our senses as we wanted to avoid the usual Goa beaches circuit. We are veterans of travelling to Goa and have extensively explored it.

The bungalow boasts of all the features of a Portugese style architecture, including large doors and windows, airy rooms and a central courtyard around which are the guest rooms. We loved the way the owner couple have styled the decor of the house – old style furniture with interesting knick knacks scattered around the place. There are lots of open spaces to just hang easy, read a book or gaze at the greenery around..

The couple have two lovely daughters T & T, who make great company for families travelling with kids like us! Not to miss Feni, the enthusiastic labrador, who completes the family. She sure knows how to extend a warm welcome!

The house overlooks a seasonal lake, which was filling up when we were there last in June; and is surrounded by paddy fields and is located on a quiet road where you don’t see much traffic,, safe for the kids to walk about by themselves.

It is a place where you can truly chill and perhaps grow roots ;) We were back to the place in a week again!

My family - me, my wife and daughter had a superb homestay at Arcoiris during Christmas.. Everything about this house is very good. The surroundings too is very serene. Beni and Ganesh make you feel at home along with their daughters Trusha & Tiku and feni - their wonderful dog. We had the best moments of our lives with them especially Trusha & Tiku. Best place to unwind yourself. Looking forward to visit our friends soon......

We were recommended Arco Iris by a friend who'd never been there! And we came back consumed by the experience.

The beauty of the place is enthalling. The house is meticulously planned and done up. We and our daughter loved the space, various rocking chairs, hammocks that were there all over the place. Beni, Genesh, Trusha, Trikaya and Feni we so welcoming and accessible that it seemed a grave error that we had a planned a stay for only 4 days there. Thanks to Beni, we could find some new places to visit and usually got the best deals for travel.

We hope to come back and spend some time with our new friends again. We're certainly recommending this to our friend who told us about it!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Arco Iris means “Rainbow” in Portuguese, and was built on a sprawling, 1.5 acre terraced property which overlooks a seasonal lake. This supplements the water requirements of the surrounding paddy fields. The proximity to the lake and the Zuari, the abundant greenery in and around the property, ensure a picturesque Goan setting throughout the year. The house itself is styled along colonial Portuguese lines with a high plinth, imposing columns, high ceilings and offers excellent natural ventilation throughout the year. It has been restored, true to its heritage and without compromising the modern day amenities that have come to be associated with the changes in lifestyle since the early 19th century.During the restoration process, all efforts were made to preserve the original materials which had originally gone into the construction of the house by using them, at times, for alternate purposes. The end result is a house which reflects a judicious and tasteful blend of the modern and the traditional. With a built up area of around 7,000 sq feet, the house comprises an “entrada” (foyer), “sala” (living room), dining room, four guest bedrooms with attached bathrooms and a fully equipped modern kitchen. Three of the bedrooms open onto private balconies. It also has a “balcao” (balcony) in front and a courtyard at the rear. The “balcao”, is the most social part of the house where any daily activity, be it catching up with neighbours, reading morning newspapers, eating , or just plain lazing can be enjoyed. The “sala” or the high ceilinged living room is reserved for formally receiving and entertaining visitors. The dining room is dominated by the dining table which can comfortably seat 8. All bedrooms have been suitably modified to accommodate attached bathrooms with modern amenities. The bedroom colours have been chosen keeping in mind the colours of the rainbow. There is plenty of space to read in the lounges, the dining room, or outdoors in the verandah. ... more   less
