“Just the Restaurant: Very good food, bad service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

With this review we just review the restaurant. We haven't found it on tripadvisor seperate to the hostel. The food is really good. It's a per kilo self service restaurant with a good selection of different food. It's not cheap, but worth the money. We ate there 3 times. The only bad thing was the service (the guy at the till). I mean we didn't expect him to speak in english to us. But he didn't say not one single word to us during the 3 times we ate there: no welcome, no "obrigado", nothing. The way he looked at us already when we entered the restaurant made us feel very unwelcome. And the worst of all was that he had headphones in his ears all the time even while serving us at the till. We couldn't believe this. That is really a pity that a good restaurant like this has such a bad service (even though it's a self service restaurant I would expect a little bit of a customer orientation even if it's just at the till). So: Go for the food and don't expect to be treated like a welcome customer.

Nice, new hostel. Owner was vey friendly with very good English. Rooms were lovely.
Only 4 stars as breakfast, whilst it was good, not as good as others we've had in brazil. But super hostel all round. The buffet at the restaurant was also very good and worth having whilst on the island.

Traveled April 2013 as a couple.

Unlike many budget options in Abraao, Biergarten gets the basics right.

Rooms -- as well as bathrooms and linens -- are spotless. Cleaners fold clothing and bed linen for dorm guests on a daily basis. (Yes, I was impressed to see my shorts nicely folded on top of my backpack.) A/C units are modern and thus very quiet.

Bathrooms have real hot showers -- no electric shower heads here. Don't underestimate the importance of a nice, clean, hot shower after trekking six hours to/from the beach in the jungle.

Victor, the owner, speaks excellent English (if you need that) and seems like a genuinely nice guy. Other staff at the hostel are just as friendly and helpful.

This is certainly not a party hostel, but a small hostel where it's easy to meet other friendly, laidback -- but not crazy -- guests in the pleasant kitchen area or downstairs bar/restaurant.

Speaking of the restaurant, Biergarten's kilo/buffet spot offers good value -- but not 'cheap' -- food. Especially if you are vegetarian, you will find a lot to like at this restaurant, although meat eaters will also be pleased.

Budget travelers who appreciate good value and cleanliness -- as well as being close to the party without staying at the party -- should elect this excellent choice.

The dormatory with four beds was really good. Each bed have a bedlamp, you have your own locker and the communal showers and toilets are clean. The atmosphere is relaxed and soft. Easy to sleep at night, cool people staying there. Nice staff, friendly and easy. Good breakfast. Communal computers. Good value!

This popular little hostel is well located a street back from the beach and only 5 mins walk from the main jetty. It still looks very new and all the furniture and finishings make this place look really nice. The hostel is split into two completely separate areas with their own kitchen/bathroom and both lead off from the main bar where breakfast is served and people hang out during the day/night. Breakfast is ok, not a huge spread but its all tasty. The dorms are spacious with big lockers and individual reading lights for each bed. Bathrooms are quite nice with hot water and are shared amongst all the dorms. The whole place is super clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful (and speak english). This place isn't a party hostel, most nights people head off for Che Legarto or Aquario to party which means its nice and quiet at night. Wifi on the whole island is really sporadic and slow so it's no fault of the hostel their wifi service isn't great either. Expect island wide internet outages too in bad weather.

All up a really nice, clean, well run hostel that I would definitely recommend to everyone. Its very popular so its worth booking ahead if you want to secure a bed. Also their per kilo restaurant out front does great food.

Room Tip: Take a top bunk, the bunks are tiny so you will always hit your head getting into the bottom bed unl...

Great place. The place is brand new. Very clean. The breakfast is good. Showers are clean. Room had AC. The lockers are too small to store a backpack, but big enough to store all your valuables and a lot more. Best hostel we stayed in during our stay in Brazil.

Brilliant hostel. Clean and well equipped. Best hostel on the island. Was really easy to get to the tours and trips. Less than 5 minutes walk to anything you need. Owner is really friendly. This place gets booked really quickly. They only have 17 beds. Book way in advance.. you won't regret it! Highly recommended.
