“Really chilled out and well run resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

It's very easy to rave about the wonderful, tremendous diving Raja Ampat offers and associate it with the resort. I'll be reviewing the the resort ONLY. This resort is a very cool place to base yourself while in Raja. Rey runs a tight ship on the dive boat which is good as he runs the diving operation in a very professional manner. All the equipment is top notch and he is big on dive safety which my friend and I found very reassuring as we're both inexperienced divers and the more cheaper diving outfits in Raja can be quite reckless. Dive sites are all really close to the resort, 5-15mins boat ride. The house reef is also pretty good, though no the best i've seen in the area.

The accommodation is really good and comfortable and most importantly, clean. The big appeal here is there is only 4 bungalows so you'll only ever get maximum of 8 people at the resort. This gives a wonderfull feeling of privacy and seclusion and it allows you to appreciate the region even more. The location of the bungalows also is excellent, just back from the beach. The beach itself is superb with nice white sand and lazy palms dangling down, and with minimal people there it really is special.

The food is mostly of pretty good standard with a variety of dishes served 3 times a day and there is always enough for seconds which I think is important. Drinks cost extra so maybe you'll want to bring drinks with you from the mainland.

The owners themselves are also very good and accommodating and mostly do their best to ensure you have everything you need.

The resort is definitely a cool place to stay, for sure! some only minor blemishes though, some of the food (desserts) can be a little hit an miss and the service may not be 5 star at times, considering the price you're paying to stay there these little things could be improved on. Also perhaps some hammocks right on the beach would seal the deal, other homestays/resorts around Raja do it. Lastly I came with a friend to stay here, none of the rooms have twin beds all are double beds. They were very good at providing a mattress for myself to sleep on, but having the option there of a twin room would be more appropriate.

Otherwise this definitely a top notch place, worth checking out!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Biodiversity. It was a great way to end my holiday in Indonesia. The diving was great. On the 10 dives I did, we saw many wobbegong sharks (on 4 out of the 10 dives), a lot of white tip and reeftip sharks (on 4 out of the 10 dives), an occasional turtle (on 2 out of the 10 dives), flamboyant cuttlefish (on 1 out of the 10 dives), schools of barracuda's and a lot of incredible nudibranches. The food was good and diverse. And the people I met whilst diving were also great. Patricia is a very nice host. The room was comfortable and clean and the beach and the house reef are beautiful.

One of the best dives I did was to go to the passage: the combination of the above the water landscape (jungle feeling) and the drift dive in the passage was great. It is not cheap to go there (you have to pay additional as it is outside the free 10 km range of the dives that are included in the package) but for me it was well worth it.

If you're after AMAZING diving as well as a chilled out break, then Ray and Patricia's Biodiversity Resort is definitely the place to go in Raja Ampat. Their resort is very new (only around six months old), and this young, extremely friendly and ambitious couple have an amazing enthusiasm to make the experiences of their guests as wonderful as possible as they try to build up their business. I've no doubt that this will become one of the "go-to" places in Raja Ampat over the next few years. Somehow they have managed to achieve the perfect vibe -- both relaxed and friendly and an amazing place to chill out when you're not diving, while also not being too expensive or stuffy.

Their friendliness, hospitality, and willingness to go the extra mile to make our time perfect (including arranging at the last minute an early-morning dive at Blue Magic on Christmas day where we saw a manta jump out of the water, and 3 huge mantas swimming around us on our dive), is only matched by their infectious enthusiasm for diving as well as the amazing original tasty food menu that Patricia creates every day (during the time we were there, somehow she did not repeat a single meal). From the brand new dive gear, the comfortable (and fast) dive boat, the great local dive-masters who are focused on safety and enjoyment, to the awesome meals that we were provided with day after day (including a home-baked snack every afternoon after getting back from diving), everything was perfectly taken care of. We did some of the best dives we have ever done, including Blue Magic, Mioskun, Cape Kri and Mike's Point. And what is awesome is that with their own jetty and dive boat (and incredible house reef), it's extremely easy and quick to get gear together to go for a dive -- no mucking around and their staff even prepare your tanks and equipment for you -- all you have to do is clear your mask and jump in the water! We even did a night dive with Ray on the house reef, which was well worth doing, and on one afternoon when we didn't dive, they arranged for the diveboat to take us over to the local Papuan village to meet some of the locals -- it was wonderful to get a taste of local culture in between diving.

We would highly recommend Biodiversity Resort, and we can't wait to book our next stay with Ray and Patricia -- they are both incredibly gracious and friendly hosts and by the time it came to leave we really felt like friends and have since kept in touch over whatsapp. Who knows ... maybe we will have to come back for next year's Christmas party after the success of the awesome Christmas party they put on in 2013 -- it was lovely to have both the guests and the friendly local Papuan staff all celebrating Christmas together.

We definitely lucked out on choosing Raja Ampat Biodiversity Eco Resort, considering the limited information on the internet about the home stays and dive resorts in West Papua.

First of all, RABER is located on Gam which is only 30 minutes by speedboat from Waisai, where the ferry from Sorong dropped us off. The best dive sites of Dampier Strait are all around 20 minutes away. And the best kept secret, in my opinion, is the house reef. Devil rays were jumping out of the water near the jetty when we were there, and were sighted while snorkelling and diving. Insane!

Pat and Rey and their staff run a tight ship. Service is outstanding, from the diving, to the premises, to the meals. In fact, we didn't lift a finger the whole week we were there. The rental gear was in great shape and always ready to go on the boat in the morning. The place is always spick and span complete with recycling bins. And the food is amaaaazing, I mean, they even make the afternoon snacks from scratch!

I could go on and on about how wonderful RABR is, but it is kinda obvious from all the glowing reviews here. Yes, Raja Ampat is really difficult to get to, but this place is THE ultimate diving paradise and totally worth it. After diving and travelling all around the world, RA Biodiversity Eco Resort is where I've left a piece of my heart. Go, you won't regret it. But be an experienced diver who can deal with strong currents before you do it.

Raja Ampat is one of the most amazing places I've ever been and Rey and Patricia have created the perfect base from which to explore it. There are only 4 bungalows which gives it a very private and exclusive feel. The rear bungalows are semi-detached and the beds are a little smaller than the beachfront bungalows which are separated by an open-air toilet and shower.

There is a communal area where meals are served. The food is excellent and everyone eats together, which creates a nice atmosphere amongst the guests. There is tea and coffee available throughout the day too.

There is a private narrow beach in front of the rooms from which the house reef is accessible. Many different species can be seen here just snorkelling - squid, bat fish, butterfly fish, angel fish, devil rays, etc. It's also usually possible to go out on the boat with the divers to snorkel, depending on the dive site. The boat is fast and gets to most dive sites (Mike's point, sardine reef, blue magic etc.) in 15-30 minutes.

My wife went diving and loved it. Patricia and Rey are excellent dive instructors who care about safety and know all the best dive spots. All the equipment is new and the dives are well organised to make sure divers were split into groups of similar experience. Species spotted included black-tip reef sharks, wobbegongs, eagle rays, manta rays, devil rays, bumpheads, napoleons and turtles.

Room Tip: The rear bungalows are only a few metres behind the more expensive beachfront ones. The main differe...

My husband and I had an amazing time at Biodiversity with Rey and Patricia. We were one of the first guests they had, and it was so inspiring to hear their story of how they wanted to create a perfect place for their guests--the kind of place they wished was around when they first came to Raja Ampat. They made us feel like we were visiting them in their home.

Rey and Patricia are both very professional even while being so friendly, and we had some of our best dives at the resort. We loved hanging out on the dock and watching all the fantastic biodiversity that was just there at the house reef! The food was fantastic, the staff were fantastic, the rooms were fantastic. When we left, we felt a little like we were kicked out of paradise. We would definitely recommend this resort to all our friends, and we hope we can make it back there someday.

I stayed at Biodiversity for 5 days 4 nights. It was a wonderful and unforgettable experience!
I chose initially because it was the only resort that offered a flexible choice of stay including dives at a reasonable price. But it was much more than just that!
At biodiversity you'll be immerse in nature.
The reef and the marine life just in front of the beach are amazing and they would be enough for me to come back.
And the the jetty is attracting new marine life as well which is fun to see.
The accommodations are relatively basic but functional and the bungalows are just a few meters from the beach. The view is stunning.
Currently it can host only a maximum of 8 persons which allows the owner to better care and interact with the guests
It is in Pulau Gam so a relatively short trip from Waisai.
It is run by a motivated Spanish couple of professional divers, Pat and Ray.
The diving equipment is new and the dives are great and also a very short distance from the resort. Pat and Ray are a great company and it's fun to hear their stories about the beginning of their adventure in Raja Ampat.
They are also trying to help the locals and integrate with them. The whole place is built by the people from the area and even the cook is lovely local lady who cooks delicious Papuan food (for whom Pat and ray had to build a second kitchen since she doesn't like to cook indoor, think of that).
The best way to check availability is to use whatsapp, Pat will check it regularly and chat with you (I booked it while at the airport chatting with Pat :)
If I am back in Raja Ampat I know where I am going to stay!
